RB Brandon Paul No Longer With Team

Note:  FSU has not officially announced this.  At this point, this is all information from e-mailers.  I will say that they nailed the D'Vo situation though, and I'll trust them until they steer us wrong.

AM Update:  Others are now saying he withdrew.  I've changed the headline to reflect this, as the end result is the same.

A big thanks to all who emailed about this story.  I'm going to go ahead and confirm this.  I am glad that we now have multiple people who are willing to share information anonymously.  I will not be sharing some of the off-field stuff related to Paul.  It is irrelevant and can only lead to negative press for the Noles.

Paul was an impressive recruit from Tallahassee Lincoln and redshirted last year.  He was a great track guy, but often was an attitude issue.  He had been a huge disappointment.  Paul had already fallen behind several other players at RB..  We do need to have scholarship space, and implementing this de facto cut of a player helps us to shed dead weight.  We also dismissed Joe Surratt recently. The difference between Surratt and Paul, however, is that Surratt was gone next year anyways (he was a Senior), while Paul has/ had the chance to be a disappointment for 3 more years.  There are certainly major whispers about Paul's off field activities, which could have threatened FSU's recent stellar record for discipline (over half a year with no arrests, quite the feat for a major program).

This is a win for the Noles.  There are still guys on this team who we could stand to lose.  I hope they are on notice that missteps will not be tolerated among players who aren't progressing on schedule.  It's a double standard that I support.

Maybe we should give one of the 2 recently freed up scholarships to Special Teams Stud Givens.

Unfortunately, this could hurt our recruiting relations with Lincoln High in the future.  I am specifically talking about Jawanza Starling, the prized safety recruit who plays for the Trojans.

Please keep all comments respectful, safe for work, and free from libel.  There is no reason to opine on the off field stuff.

I've been so swamped with midterms and work...

I didn’t realize what is going on and don’t know what the D’Vo situation is. Could somebody link to the post discussing that so I can get caught up?

That said, I think that its very important, for the progress of this program, to dispose of all of the bad that has been so prevalent during the decline. I will not be upset at all if FSU dismisses athletes that have questionable work ethic, questionable drive and desire, and/or questionable off-the-field activities. Good for FSU.

If something like this hurts FSU’s relationship with Lincoln, then there is a much deeper issue than we realize. FSU has had many Lincoln players come through and many go on to greater things.

Re: Dvo

It’s not to a point where we can really discuss what happened, at some point we will talk about it.

I doubt this does anything to Starling’s decision. If i remember correctly, we were suppose to get a certain lincoln cb last year because his best friend went to FSU, how did that work out?

D'Vo has a medical issue that he is dealing with

and that is all we’re saying. Out of respect for him, this is as far as we are going to go.

It’s important to note that it’s not an attitude or behavioral issue.

I had high hopes for Paul when he signed

At the very least, I thought he would help in landing TJ Bryant.

Starling would be a huge get, so hopefully this doesn’t piss Lincoln off too much.
