Bert Reed out for Va Tech

Stay connected for news and updates

Many of you emailed about this, and yeah, the usual sources have now confirmed.  Bert Reed is suspended for the Va Tech game.  Reed is a really talented player, though not a huge part of our offense due to depth.

UPDATE:  Mutliple sources are offering offering varying accounts of what happened with this.  It will be interesting to see what Bobby says, come tomorrow.  We will see.  I have disabled the comment section on this post, for now.

Hopefully Jimbo is trying to send a message that staying focused is key.  The danger that something happens over a long weekend is everpresent.    Inside, I discuss how this will hurt us...

It won't hurt much.  Easterling and Parker will play increased rolls.  We use Reed for Bubble Screens and Reverses.  I assume Parker will return punts, like he did last year.

We don't run the bubble out of trips very often, so losing Parker's blocking shouldn't hurt is too much.

One positive for the team (if you can find one), is that Bert could simulate VT's QB Tyrod Taylor as the scout team QB.  He played QB for Bay high school, and is just as fast as Taylor.  I'm not sure if the coaches would let him do that, however.

One final inetresting note:  Look at Jimbo's face when someone mention's reed in Monday's press conference video.  He sort of scrunches around that time, when confronted with Reed's name, and the mention of the bubble screen, etc..  It's probably nothing, but it is interesting.
