Thats was smart on there behalf and stupied. It made them look like they had to do somehting to get points on us. We need to take control of this game and use the clock

by Desman on Nov 15, 2008 9:47 PM EST reply actions

1st half obs

1) Very frustrating half to watch — I was just pissed the whole way through
2) My TV and computer are in different rooms so sorry if i repeat some stuff you’ve already said
3) 36 blew their first big run — for some reason he chased the reverse guy — very poor discipline
4) I forgot what it was like to have the other team convert on third down.
5) Their QB has made some ungodly throws — he can’t keep it up — we will get an INT chance or 2 or 3 off tipped balls vs. our zone
6) They’re giving us the dink and dunk stuff underneath — Ponder needs to take it, but he’s got to GET RID OF THE BALL QUICKER
7) Ponder clearly lost his poise because of the INTs – it will be a test of Jimbo’s coaching to see if he can pull him together

by Fsued on Nov 15, 2008 9:48 PM EST reply actions

My thoughts

Crane has made some INSANE throws in the first half. He will not make that many of those in the 2nd half.

We will see more QB rushing in the 2nd half.

We are not blocking their DT’s at all, and that’s an obvious problem.

BC will not do as well passing, but we need to stop the running game.

by Bud Elliott on Nov 15, 2008 9:49 PM EST reply actions

Its just not a good matchup

for our interior lineman. They are really good in the middle

by UNFNOLE on Nov 15, 2008 9:50 PM EST up reply actions

100%

We have to stop there run but what is killing us is that reverses who knows who has the ball.

by Desman on Nov 15, 2008 9:51 PM EST up reply actions

Glad our BBALL

team can only win by 3 over JU.
My thoughts on the first half (for what they are worth)

We need to run. I dont know how or where, but we have to. If it’s QB draws, then so be it. They are playing on their heels and getting away with it because of our poor run-blocking.

Our defense has to read the routes better. We got lost on man coverages, Mangum bit on a juke move, and they are sitting right behind out LB’s in zone. This will probably be fixed at half.

Our DL needs to get their hands up to deflect these balls.

by UNFNOLE on Nov 15, 2008 9:49 PM EST reply actions

and stop blitzing we dont have to to get pressure

by Desman on Nov 15, 2008 9:51 PM EST up reply actions

Maybe

but most teams that are deemed ‘aggresive’ are attacked with mis-direction and end arounds. I don’t know how to fix this other than to say not to take your first step toward the first move (but then you can get beat if they start doing that. Notice how when they give it to their first move, we stop them).

by UNFNOLE on Nov 15, 2008 9:52 PM EST up reply actions

We just lack variety.

For years mickey had such a talent advantage that he was able to say “just go execute.”

This is a VERY talented defense with 6+ guys who will play in the NFL in the starting lineup alone. 5 Seniors 6 Juniors. No excuses for Mickey’s D allowing 150 first half yards. None. Bad job of coaching by him for this season. 3rd down defense is great, but we have been gashed on 1st and 2nd down as well this year.

by Bud Elliott on Nov 15, 2008 9:55 PM EST up reply actions

2nd half adjustments

-No more all out blitzes on Mass protect
-I’d like to see more of the 4 DE formation on passing downs
-Please throw it to Carr deep…just once
-More bubble screens
-More cut blocking from the OL. Get those big boys on the ground
-More plays for DVo

by Zach_Nole on Nov 15, 2008 9:51 PM EST reply actions

we need to start showing blitz and not bringing it. show the Aces and play the Jack 10

by Desman on Nov 15, 2008 9:54 PM EST up reply actions

But we dont use Zone that often and dont want to leave it open isnt that how they got there first score on us

by Desman on Nov 15, 2008 9:56 PM EST up reply actions

be carefull on the b-screen dont need it picked

by Desman on Nov 15, 2008 9:54 PM EST reply actions

we need to use our speed to our avd. We need to throw more screens and then fake it and long to Carr

by Desman on Nov 15, 2008 9:57 PM EST reply actions

Low chance of victory, imo, for these reasons ...

1) Our defense is already tired — quality of tackling is deteriorating
2) Ponder is not playing with confidence — INT’s REALLY seem to affect him.
3) We are getting outhusted.

Observation: We have enough receivers to cover for those who are out, but I think this week got to our team. We look out of synch.

by Fsued on Nov 15, 2008 10:23 PM EST reply actions

Agreed on all 3.

Defense getting badly outcoached.

They are dominating the middle of the LOS

by Bud Elliott on Nov 15, 2008 10:24 PM EST up reply actions

wow...

….Gano can do it all!!

by FSU4AD on Nov 15, 2008 10:46 PM EST reply actions

I was wondering about this earlier.

What defensive assistants out there have Jimbo connections? I’m afraid if they’re friends of Jimbo then they are also friends of Saban and we might have a tough time getting them here.

by MattDNole on Nov 15, 2008 10:51 PM EST up reply actions

It would be someone with 3-4 experience,

All defensive coaches would be gone, except possible Odell. We would use Jacobbi and McAllister as 3-4 Ends in a hybrid package.

by Bud Elliott on Nov 15, 2008 10:52 PM EST up reply actions

Odell is the only coach I want to keep.

If we could get Colzie as DB coach or promote T-Buck, I think they might succeed.

As I type this, Mickey is putting Roosevelt Lawson in the game on a HUGE third down. Maybe sit the next few out, Champ.

by MattDNole on Nov 15, 2008 10:55 PM EST up reply actions

whew

That was a game postponing play.

by MattDNole on Nov 15, 2008 10:57 PM EST reply actions

Damn the playcalling

Why would you call a pass when you are getting 10 yards a pop on the ground?

I liked the call

The BC defender made an amazing catch

by Zach_Nole on Nov 15, 2008 11:06 PM EST up reply actions

Why pass there?

Ponder’s throws look like shit tonight, but they finally got some traction on the ground. Why not keep that up?

After watching the end of the first half...

I think Jeff has returned for homecoming and he might have had something to do with it.

Damn the world

No damn heart, no damn smarts, no damn anything.

by Curtain Jerker on Nov 15, 2008 11:13 PM EST reply actions

This is pathetic

We knew Wake lost earlier in the day, so winning out = Tampa. And this is how they show up? Christian Ponder plays like crap, the D doesn’t show up. We won’t get the ball back at this rate

by Curtain Jerker on Nov 15, 2008 11:16 PM EST reply actions

Actually

Let them score here. Seriously. We’ll get the ball back, and then our quarterback will lead a drive…oh wait.

"Your eyes can decieve you. Don't trust them." Obi-Wan Kenobi, the first sabermetrician...

by Curtain Jerker on Nov 15, 2008 11:18 PM EST up reply actions

To be fair to Ponder

It’s hard to succeed when:

1) There’s a DT on you immediately after the snap.
2) Your slot receivers are getting knocked down by linebackers 10 yards down field every play.
3) Your only deep threat prefers jogging to running and will only try if he has a gimme TD.

by MattDNole on Nov 15, 2008 11:20 PM EST up reply actions

It doesn't help that

he threw that end-zone INT like a rainbow. That was a bad throw.

6'6'' vs. 5'10''

I’d usually take a rainbow in that matchup.

by MattDNole on Nov 15, 2008 11:23 PM EST up reply actions

Well, at least the Bears could win tomorrow

The 'noles haven't looked this flat over the course of a game since the WF loss....

There is nothing there on either side of the ball. It’s very discouraging and I believe much of this is a by-product of the mid-week brawl.

by FSU4AD on Nov 15, 2008 11:24 PM EST reply actions

Ugh

I’m still getting used to replying. That should have been in the Floyd thread.

by MattDNole on Nov 15, 2008 11:25 PM EST up reply actions

If we beat Maryland

We’re 8-4 (I’m assuming the Gators administer a beatdown). This loss deflates everything we’ve accomplished thus far.

Yeah.

But one of our players is really smart.

\end sarcasm

by MattDNole on Nov 15, 2008 11:27 PM EST up reply actions

At least Nicholson is a senior

I’m not a huge reactionary, but that move should be cut-worthy. Let him stay on scholarship and finish his degree, but de-activate him for the final 3 games. Send a damn message. A hands-off approach worked when you had players who were self-motivators and leaders. Now, with this hapless bunch? Send a signal that you don’t tolerate stupidity.

by Curtain Jerker on Nov 15, 2008 11:29 PM EST up reply actions

And another thing.

Who the heck schedules these games?

BC down here in November? Sure am glad they got to experience Tallahassee weather. I’m sure we’ll get to play up there in August next season, right?

Screw you, ACC.

by MattDNole on Nov 15, 2008 11:28 PM EST reply actions

Exactly

I’m saying I think our game will be in November in Boston…. and we haven’t been given the same weather advantage.

LSU

Ahh… a team that can pick up their jock and win a game.

by MattDNole on Nov 15, 2008 11:31 PM EST reply actions

Say what you will about Ponder

But Jarrett Lee is a lot worse

Note on future staff

No defensive assistants should be hired from Tulsa.

by MattDNole on Nov 15, 2008 11:32 PM EST reply actions

SCREW YOU BOSTON COLLEGE!!

THERE IS NO NEED FOR A DT TO COME IN HIGH LIKE THAT!!

by MattDNole on Nov 15, 2008 11:34 PM EST reply actions

Reference

Just to explain myself, the BC defender hit Ponder in the head on the final play.

by MattDNole on Nov 15, 2008 11:35 PM EST up reply actions

Just miserable

These bastards can’t even lose with class. Parker = douche

Bye Bye Bowden

Time to go-there is no discipline.

by bowdendunn on Nov 15, 2008 11:37 PM EST reply actions

Pathetic showing of our offense and defense. Goes to show the $##$# distractions this week had some effect on the team. Why did D’vo not get more snaps? Where was our pass rush? And the personal foul on us that sealed the game for BC…W.T.F! Seriously, this team needs a coach, a leader, someone, to come in there and administer some punishment and discipline for these actions and our team’s attitude. Parker’s actions at the end of the game go to prove the way this season has been.

We all have been blinded by the 7 wins this season to think that FSU is back, but we are far from it. Talent wise, I believe we are there. Attitude wise, this team needs discipline, and Bowden is not the answer.

by thirdcoastnole on Nov 15, 2008 11:38 PM EST reply actions

Amen

I could not have said it better. Times have changed and Bowden is too old. These kids now days need a corrections officer not a father figure.
