ESPN College Gameday Sat 11/15

Ok, so did anyone else see that ESPN and the College Gameday Crew are going to be broadcasting live from Tallahassee this weekend!  Isn't that exciting?!

Oh wait, ESPN isn't there for our National TV prime time game in the wide open ACC between 2 good programs and a nationally ranked top 20 team.  Why would they do that?

They are there for the FAMU v. Hampton U game.  That's right. 5-4 Hampton and 7-3 FAMU, from the MEAC conference.  Not only do I hate ESPN, for many reasons, one being that they call us "FLA ST" on the score line during their broadcasts instead of FSU, but could this be more of a slap in the face to us.

There is only 1 game this week between  ranked teams this week.  UF v South Carolina. (Go GAMECOCKS!)  They are at an SEC or Big 12 game every week, and right fully so.  But seriously.  This is just unacceptable!!!!

What are the chances if we win out that Gameday will be in Tallahassee...

on November 29? I think the other big game that day is Oklahoma vs Oklahoma St….and with the love they show the Big 12 i’m guessing the chances are not good.

“you mean not good like one out of a hundred?”
“I’d say more like one out of a million..”

ABC has the rights because FSU is the home team

If it’s a 10-1 UF team vs a 9-2 FSU team, Gameday will be there and it’ll be in Primetime.

yeah, 20 years too late....

my dad went to fsu so ive grown up a diehard fan for 25 years. but unfortunantely he was never table to take us down to a game as kids.we’ve lived in the northeast for most of our lives which made it very expensive to make the trip. so it was always my brothers and my goal that once we graduated and got jobs that we would take him back for a florida game. it was easier and cheaper to buy season tickets rather than just the one game so we bought them and surprised him this year for his birthday. so this will be our first trip ever down there……needless to say words can’t describe how excited i am.

i’m pretty sure i’m have the same reaction that Rudy’s dad has as he gets off the bus and sees the Notre Dame stadium for the first time..

go gamecocks. the funny think is FSR around here (columbia) w/ Duice Dayley really thinks they have a chance at winning. I hope UF wins only because I want them higher ranked when we playt them. If we win it would look real good. but thats a big if and I dont want to realy talk about that

by Desman on Nov 10, 2008 10:37 PM EST reply actions

FSR in columbia

Its called the game and all they talk about it the damn Gamecocks. they are talking about wanting to go to the chick-fil-a bowl and beating a team like FSU. I call in all the time telling they we are going to a beter bowl and they would play the U or UNC. I like FSR but I just wish I could get the one for FSU but not going to get it this far north.

Jeff Cameron from 3-6 is the FSU show basically. Hillarious and informative. Available online too.

I have 2 questions.

1) why are we wearing black uniforms?
2) why do teams wear the black uniforms?

by Desman on Nov 11, 2008 9:02 AM EST reply actions

i was told by an inside source that we wear the black uniforms thanks to Nike. They just wanted to make more money off of having another jersey and millions of black FSU t shirts to sell every year. The players and the coaches hate it.

If it gets them excited....

why not save it for the UF game? Speaking from experience (I played on a team that had all black helmets, jerseys and pants), it gets ridiculously hot and that was all the way up in IL…

The fans get excited by it. It creates a buzz…its fun. Have at it.

Well,

blackouts only work at night, so the heat is usually a non-issue.

We use it in conjunction with the Seminole Tribe of Florida-, and we’d never Schedule UF for Homecoming.

by Bud Elliott on Nov 11, 2008 7:13 PM EST up reply actions

True...

Scheduling UF for homecoming would not be wise…would still be fun to have a black out for them. Not like that game needs anymore hype.

by TrueCubbie on Nov 11, 2008 7:23 PM EST reply actions

Personally,

I feel like we should play the gators in traditional colors. It’s fine (I guess) against someone like BC, but it would seem wrong against UF.

I GO TO FAM!!!

This post made me a lil sad.
I go to FAMU and I like your team, always have. Probably would have went their if my brother hadn’t gone to FAM and gotten a really high paying job upon graduation (our SBI program is amazing). He convinced me to go there.

Anyway, I like your team, and am rooting for you all to run the table.

Just please dont insult my HBC*U*’s (some of us are universities), ESPN just wanted to switch it up this week, and you mention the following. How would schools like ours get any type of following if it wasnt for things like this.

Good luck this weekend.

Note: apparently we are also the first HBCU to have them on our campus, thats got to be worth something right?

Note2: Thought I should mention I’m from MD and I grew up liking you all over the Terrapins… thats got to say something else huh?

Matchz

I didn’t mean to offend FAM people, my apologies.

You must realize that ESPN hates every fanbase out there ;) Tally hasn’t had game day in town since… 2003. I think our fans are eager to regain the National spotlight. The ACC is much better than most realize this year (sagarin rates them as the 2nd best and others place them 1st) and some of the National media is slow on the take.

The previous match up I referred to is November 10: Amherst at Williams (2007). If Gameday doesn’t come to town this year, guys like Tony Carter and Drew Weatherford (the incoming class of 2004) will never be able to experience being on gameday.

Personally, I hate gameday in Doak. The setup is awful and I caught pneumonia when they came in 2003 (for the Miami rain game). Hopefully they choose a good location at FAM.

I didn’t mean to offend FAMU and hey, I learned something (didn’t know the proper term was HBCU). Good luck to FAM this weekend and I’m glad you joined Tomahawk Nation. Here’s to you becoming an active member.

Also, what is “SBI”? (I’m so law focused right now it is absurd).

As an Amherst Alum...

…cheers for the shout out about Game Day in Williamstown last year. I was very surprised to see crew at the game last year.

For those who don’t know, Amherst v Williams has been referred to as the “Biggest Little Game in America” an has been played since 1884 and unfortunately Williams is leading the series. Both schools are tiny liberal arts colleges located in sleepy college towns in western Massachusetts. Williams is slightly bigger with about 1600 students and Amherst has roughly 1400 students. Despite these tiny schools, the crowd for the game is roughly around 10,000. The largest crowd was over 13,000. Every so often, the game makes its way on to ESPN2.

It may not have the size/recognition of FSU v UF or Michigan v OSU, it means the world to the players on both teams. Having been someone who lost to Williams in the most absurd/tragic way, it will be something I remember for the rest of my life. If you’re at all interested in college football history it is something worth reading about. If you’re ever in Western Mass in early November, take a trip out to Amherst or Williamstown, walk up to the endzone, have a beer and grill a burger (yes you can grill feet away from the endzone) and watch a great game…you won’t regret the trip.

(In case you’re wondering, I have adopted the Noles as my college team as my wife attended FSU…we don’t miss any games and have traveled to Tallahassee, South Bend and Atlanta to see the Noles play)

TruCubbie doing it right.

FSU wife = $

Also, grilling next to the end zone rings of liability to this law student’s ears.
