Colorado Buffaloes at Florida St. Seminoles, Sep 27, 2008 3:30 PM EDT
I'll be liveblogging the games throughout the day! Stop in and share your thoughts. This is a great place to keep up with the game(s) if you don't get the game in your area! Stop in and see the Tomahawk Nation guys talk about the 'Noles, and other games throughout the day! We'd love for you to post your thoughts, observations, and reactions as well!
If you haven't already checked out the Tomahawk Nation Preview: make sure that you do so! Also, happy birthday to USER jds07d!
I need some volunteers! We need one person to Tivo the our game and the Miami game, in case our Tivo were to break. Why? Because, if our Tivo breaks down, you can save the blog and be the hero by sending us a copy, for us to break down and share our thoughts off of, with you. If you're up for the task, let us know in the comment section.
If you're participating in entertainment purposes only style action today, let us know that as well. Always interesting to see who you have.
Official Tomahawk Nation Updates
- 9:45 AM: Nigel Bradham is in beast mode (updating his facebook from his blackberry).
- We're hearing that Greenlee is out at tackle, and Tonga is in. Okay, "source", you're on the spot here.
- 2:38 EST UPDATE: Ron Cherry is reffing this game. He is a bad referee. Hopefully none of our guys will get called for "giving him the business."

Parker
Not entirely… Jimbo will try to get the ball in Parker’s hands very often with many different looks to try to get matchups. If Parker is lined up on a LB than thats a matchup he’ll win a vast majority of the time.

what are your thoughts on mickey andrews?
I’m a bit ambivalent.

2nd down and 7. shotgun. Ponder drills a ball to parker over the middle, good coverage, dropped.
3rd and 7.
Tomahawk Nation<a
Kind of like that call
Don’t try to do too much with a new qb.
3rd n 5, excellent coverage by jenijie
could have easily committed PI.
hawkins has no arm.
Tomahawk Nation<a
FSU starts at their own 35. Ponder throws the ball to caz, he's past the LOS, BUT NOT CALLED
Tomahawk Nation<a
3rd n 6, trips, motion right
Ponder throws for 4 to Caz. stayed in pocket. We should go.
Tomahawk Nation<a
we will go. 4th n 1 from the Colorado 43.
Jermiane Thomas off tackle. Nice block Zebrie!!!
Tomahawk Nation<a
on 1st down, from the Colorado 40, Gregg Carr false starts. we were going deep.
Damnit.
Tomahawk Nation<a
2nd and 4, Run up the gut by Thomas for 6, but
fumbles though, Colroado recovers at Colorado 27,
Tomahawk Nation<a
Good grief, Wake beats Miss, Miss Beats Florida, so I'm thinking sweet
and then down to Navy?! They need to win bad.
Ponder incomplete roll out right, not a pretty ball, but not off targe
parker needed to catch it. but throw was late.
Tomahawk Nation<a
1st n 10, Jamie Robsinson picks ball on rub route. Poor throw, joint possession almost.
Picked nonetheless
Tomahawk Nation<a
Ponder pass batted, ponder catches pass, ponder rushes forward, bobbling ball, DT ctaches ball for INT.
WOW. Never seen something like that.
Tomahawk Nation<a
3rd n 8 from the 10.
Incomplete, drilled, too hard, would have been killed.
OUR PRESSURE IS HUGE.
Tomahawk Nation<a
YES! Good stuff. But Bad Field Position
Lets go Ponder, no harm no foul
3rd down n 8. shotgun 2 back look.
Ponder drills fortson on a square in. stood in pocket. pass slightly behind. 16 yards, first down.
Tomahawk Nation<a
4th n 3, delay of game (on purpose) for punt.
Punt coverage is average, Colorado to CU 18. (punt was to 10). 7-7, timeout.
Tomahawk Nation<a
J. Thomas looking good?
Besides the fumble of course
2nd n 10.
line needs to get pressure.
Nice job by mincey knifing through to disrupt play.
no gan. 3rd n 10
Tomahawk Nation<a
3rd n 11, excuse me.
shotgun, blitz comes, obvious holding (blitz up middle), incomplete, nowhere close.
Good defensive series.
Tomahawk Nation<a
Flip the field position
Get a drive, I think we’re building confidence
1st n 10
carr pass was a 1d.
Incomplete, fortson ran a wrong route. Carr ran a comeback, Ponder threw an out.
Tomahawk Nation<a
I think I'll take Ponder's word over Fortson's or Carrs
He prolly knows the playbook a little later.
YES TD
He looked very very fast.
good bloicking by the wideouts as well.
This line is firing off the ball, and antone is running like I have never seen him. driving his legs, delivering contact.
no more first time roller blader stuff.
Tomahawk Nation<a
ANTONE SMITH 10 Carries 101 Yards 10.1 YPC 2 TDs
Player of the game in the first half?
we called to, 2nd n 9, myron makes tackle on quick pass to wr, another to, 3rd n 10 coming.
Tomahawk Nation<a
1st n 10, 4 wide, Ponder to carr on stop,
carr catches it for 8, shakes for 3, first down!
Tomahawk Nation<a
2nd n 11, from CU 13
GREAT throw to easterling GREAT throw. have to see this. easterling couldn’t get get foot down.
Tomahawk Nation<a
good half of blogging
Ponder’s misses: mostly his fault? I know you said there was at least one drop.
I don't want to comment totally until I review the tape in slow mo, but
One was forston running a wrong route
One was batted down (the “pick” where he caught it and then fumbled, counts as a pick)
One was a middle screen that never developed and he drilled into the ground
One was a drop.
One was a BEAUTIFUL ball to easterling in end zone, which was caught but easterling couldn’t get foot down
One was the 3rd n 16 before half, ball into end zone drilled.
That’s 6 that weren’t bad throws or bad reeds, of the top of my head.
Tomahawk Nation<a
thanks
That does make me feel better about 5-15.
by andy_wooster on Sep 27, 2008 5:32 PM EDT up reply actions
I'll do the breakdown again tomorrow if I can.
It’s important to classify the misses.
There are also such things as bad makes.
Tomahawk Nation<a
Defense
Very concerned about pass defense — we SHOULD have given up 21-plus points that half — WIDE OPEN receivers past our deepest defender. Harper/Tebow/etc. won’t miss those receivers.
This is true.
I told you guys, our d wasn’t as good as it showed last game, and the O wasn’t as bad.
Tomahawk Nation<a
Q? on O-Line
Who is in at O-Line? Are we starting 2 True Freshman?
LT DATKO, TRUE FROSH
LG HUDSON, TRUE SOPH
C MCMAHON, RS SOPH
RG, FURLONG, RS FR
RT ZEBRIE SANDERS, TRUE FROSH (also a concert cellist and eagle scout)
Tomahawk Nation<a
Doc,
competition is a GREAT THING.
These old guys know they have to push themselves or lose their spots.
Tomahawk Nation<a
it’s crazy to think that barring any serious injuries, FSU could have two four-year starters and three three-year starters on the line.
by andy_wooster on Sep 27, 2008 5:41 PM EDT up reply actions
On 90% of the carries,
it was the LINE. They are using their quickness a lot. Not trying to drive block, but we are using angles, leverage, and quicks.
The Antone run was special, he did a shake to draw the defender into the blocker.
Tomahawk Nation<a
Seems like a lot of guys
are calling for D’vo to start 2nd half.
I do have to admit though, 5-15 sounds really bad. D’vo would almost half to be an upgrade. Thoughts?
a lot of guys look only at the 5-15
Here were his misses.
One was forston running a wrong route
One was batted down (the "pick" where he caught it and then fumbled, counts as a pick)
Tomahawk Nation<a
Sometimes the stats lie.
Goes to show you.
I hope we start rolling during the 2nd half.
First half stats (defense)
Watson polaying like a beat, 5 tackles w/ punt block.
Nicholson 4 tackles.
rolle 4 tackles (PLAYING GREAT, 3 GREAT OPEN FIELD TACKLES),
brown 1 sack, 3 tackles, lots of double teams.
Jamie robinson with the pick.
we do need paul griffin back, mincey playing undisciplined.
Tomahawk Nation<a
on 2nd n 6, we have BAD hold on the edge, not called, but
Ponder Play fake and hits carr on an eh throw, but first down.
Tomahawk Nation<a
On the Bright Side:
A. Smith 14 Attempts for 122 yards, 8.7 ypc 2 TDs
I'm against this. seriously. he drilled it, but ugh. we didnt handle that well AT ALL.
Tomahawk Nation<a
Doc, it looked disjointed
we got hosed on the spot, and then tried to drive block.
welcome to FSU08 football: running the stretch play to get 1 yard.
Tomahawk Nation<a
THEY'RE PUNTING!!!!!
Yes! Hawkins doesn’t understand expected point values!
Punt to the 19 or 18
Tomahawk Nation<a
YES! Arkansas Texas was so bad they switched, I'm watching now
Will chekc in periodically
Okay, update
Robinson (Prob) is injured
Tony Carter and Verdell both out for game with groins
Tomahawk Nation<a
Great fake reverse, end around on 1st n 10 to parker
this looks like the play we fumbled before. Parker gets 13ish. 1st n 10 good blocking by fortson
Tomahawk Nation<a
LOL
I actually facebooked Christian and gave him some advice on leadership and making bad decisions and staying calm. lol
ball security has always been an issue
for Preston.

on 2nd n 7,
Ponder bobbles snap slightly, throws timing off a bit, is off his back foot, and he still lau nches it 50 yards to the end zone, over defender, surrency almost auls it in
<*ahref="http://www.tomahawknation.com" target="_blank">Tomahawk Nation
on 3rd n 7,
Ponder stays in the pocket, is hit some, but still hits easterling 20 yards in the air, and earterling to the 11.
<*ahref="http://www.tomahawknation.com" target="_blank">Tomahawk Nation
this is what I have right now

1st-1, FLSt1 C. Hawkins passed to R. Geer to the right for 1 yard touchdown. A. Goodman made PAT
I said
honestly, we don’t like him at all
he consistently messes up and gets burnt.
we are shocked he did that. seriously.
for the record: he was on the olympic 4X100 team in beijing. you’re not slow, he is just amazingly fast, and up until this point in his career, has always sucked.
wow
I was just thinking about the kickoff returned that Garvin had that would’ve tied the score against UF in 2006 except he stepped out of bounds around midfield.
Its funny how the annoucers keep raving about our defense
I think its been a lot of luck imho
4th n 7, we have another pass interference on myron rolle, on another post route
this one is less obvious.
where do the first round projections come from?
My guess is that he is seen as being similar to Roy Williams, who is also poor in coverage.
by andy_wooster on Sep 27, 2008 6:59 PM EDT up reply actions
2nd n 10 at 44.
Play action, almost sacked, throw off back foot, great throw though, to Caz, on cross route, caz trucks a guy and gets a great block for 12 yards, first down!
2nd n 7,
Ponder running option,
defendive holding called.
honestly, we had a chop, a hold, a facemask, and a horsecollar here.
2nd n goal from 4,
Surrat and caz great blocks!!!
smith nifty one cut and go move!
datko holding his block!
TD FSUUUU!!!!

I'm going to have to spread the word
this was great for people that can’t watch, and its very very helpful to have someone that can directly answer questions/not having to hit F5 for updates.
I really appreciate it
Its really hard getting people to actually call the game and say whats going on, even in the WC chat. The live blog updates are slow and the gametracker usually updates way faster than they post. Plus the people say crap like “NOOOOOOOOOOOO!” without posting what the hell is going on. So its very frustrating trying to make out what is happening in the game. So I really do appreciate you doing this and I will definitely be here for every game that you’re doing.
Ponder's misses:
One was forston running a wrong route
One was batted down (the “pick” where he caught it and then fumbled, counts as a pick)
One was a middle screen that never developed and he drilled into the ground
One was a drop.
One was a BEAUTIFUL ball to easterling in end zone, which was caught but easterling couldn’t get foot down
One was the 3rd n 16 before half, ball into end zone drilled.
in the second half, we had one more drop.
out of the 12 misses, thats my read on 7 of them.
I'm hoping
that we can get this thing rolling. Ponder is able to get his completions up. I’d have really liked to see D’Vontrey, but I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of him,
Rushing, wow, 259 yards
Has anyone seen antone run like that ever?
and how bad is COL on defense?
