Miami continued to see their program spiral into greater instability as the Hurricanes saw Defensive Coordinator Bill Young leave for a more lucrative position at Oklahoma State. Miami has now lost both coordinators from the 2008 season and faces another long offseason of change.

hmmm, any chance we can jack some of their recruits?

I think they all commit to Shannon.

While losing Nix helped them, losing Young hurts. Young is widely regarded as a very good defensive coordinator.

I put the commit list in the "Recruiting News" thread.

At least give a call to the ones I mentioned.

scholarships

We don’t have the scholarships unless we tell guys to take a hike, which isn’t likely to happen.

This dysfunctional coaching hierarchy is not helping us reach our goals.

Bad news

for them. It is never good to lose both coordinators in one off season.

If I was Miami I would go after some under rated guys.

I would look into Utah, TCU, Iowa, then I would look into some of the NFL coached like the lions or Raders.

I heard UGA's Willie Martinez is a candidate to replace Young.

Hopefully that’s the case. I don’t know that he’d be a downgrade but he certainly wouldn’t be an upgrade. Georgia fans wanted him gone after this past season.

OKSt.

is going to be a good competitor for years to come. They have a good staff, and are developing talent well.

I honestly don't expect Miami to sniff the top of the Coastal for quite a while.

With GT and UNC looking like they’ll be very strong, plus VT, things don’t look to promising for the Canes. It’s definitely going to take some work.

by Dent Street Nole on Jan 20, 2009 6:36 PM EST reply actions

I think UNC is the most promising ACC program for the next 3-5 years

Being completely honest.

The Coastal is much stronger than the Atlantic, and whoever gets to play Duke gets a huge advantage.

by Bud Elliott on Jan 20, 2009 6:39 PM EST up reply actions

Im not to sure about that at the moment.

the coastal has VT, UVA, UNC, and GT right. UVA is like Maryland you dont know when they want to play or not. UNC just lost there star player and I dont see them replacing him. GT and VT are the only 2 teams that have a chance and VT dont have an Off. In the Atlantic you have BC, Maryland, Wake, NSCT, and FSU. BC is falling with no Off and loseing there Def line. Maryland = UVA, WF is like UNC I think NCST is going to be the dark horse next year. and FSU is the Atlantic GT. We have the off but can we get a Def to stop the others.

I agree.

I’m not sure what Miami fans like (or liked) so much about him. I think he’ll be gone within 2-3 years.

by Dent Street Nole on Jan 20, 2009 8:05 PM EST reply actions

the guy essentially

put up a wall. How many top notch recruits leave there? The man can recruit, and he sincerely does love the program. He is a good coordinator, I am just not sure he will ever be a great head coach. Personally, I hope they dont keep him, I would like for FSU to start getting the studs from down here again.

Lack of Dinero

I don’t think Miami has the money to hire some of the big name coaches they would like to have. Let’s face it Shannon and Nix were cost cutting alternatives. Many also are saying the economic morass is only going to get worse, it doesn’t look good for the canes.

There will always be a lot of talent in the local area who will want to play for the canes but the issue is can they hold onto the talented coaching staffs. Schnellenberger would have probably been a better alternative than Shannon. He is already in the area.

I would be in favor of submitting Amato’s resume’ to UM so he can take the DC job.

I second that motion

I don’t want him coaching for the Noles but I wouldn’t mind playing against him and watch him poison a rival.

third

Motion passed FSU will now give up all rights to Chuck and he will leave town to go to Miami where he will recruit for his powerful stronghold.

First BC

Now Miami? How are there two ACC programs with ZERO coordinators?
Also, in his interview on ESPN, he said if they can’t find a great replacement, “I will assume the responsibilities”
Is that supposed to mean he will be HC AND DC? What a mess. Miami was so close to coming back to its old ways too. They had some great talent coming in…

by Njfoshizzy on Jan 21, 2009 12:29 AM EST reply actions

HC and DC are very doable, but...

I love that Miami will become EVEN MORE RISK AVERSE! Awesome. Few defensive minded HC’s understand actual risk. Shannon is learly not one of them.

by Bud Elliott on Jan 21, 2009 12:32 AM EST up reply actions

Shannon being the DC isn't a bad idea...

If it means that they can save money and put it towards a quality OC. That might be a good strategy for them.

by Dent Street Nole on Jan 21, 2009 8:59 AM EST reply actions

they need to get the guy from Washington that was the HC. move him to the Oc/DC

Which ever he is better at I would think OC. Then you get the HC from. There is always Jeff and Tommy Bowden. that would be funny. There is always Jagodzinski, Tuberville, and Phil Fulmer. I dont think they could aford the last 3 but never know I thnk Jeff and Tommy would do good there. Maybe the 2 are better than one would work out.
