Under Armor All American Game
Airing now on ESPN.
I figured we could have one place where all the recruiting talk associated with the game could go on. Feel free to comment away!!

I've still yet to grasp why recruiting has become such a big discussion topic
I’ve always held the opinion that I don’t care until they’re in a Nole jersey and actually playing.
Then again I’m busy with all the draft preperations at Big Cat Country.

As you might can tell, I tend to go crazy with it every January.
I guess I like it because recruiting is my favorite part of NCAA on Playstation.
Although I'm also the guy who goes to every Spring Game expecting something exciting.
When the now is depressing, look to the future.
Hah true
As I said, I’m busy with all the draft prep at SBN’s Jaguar blog. I guess the difference for me is that there is so much more of a quantum leap from High school to Division I-A then from I-A to the NFL that’s is much more of a crap shoot. With the amount of “Blue Chip” busts every year, I think it’s pointless. Here’s how you determine recruiting rankings, how many crystal footballs did you add to the trophy case over 4 years.

It's like baseball's hot stove league or Spring Training
Anytime you are dealing with “what could be” you’ll see a lot of interest. You can easily build up expectations to unrealistc levels and there’s little anybody can say to sway you from that. I mean there’s no evidence in any way shape or form. It’s like Christmas. The best part of Christmas is not actually opening the gifts but thinking what the gifts could be.
They said low kick by Hopkins, but couldn't see the side to see if it was just penetration.
Would’ve been nice to see Hopkins’ leg on a 46-yarder.
You've probably answered this Matt
But what team and number are our commits on?
"Your eyes can decieve you. Don't trust them." Obi-Wan Kenobi, the first sabermetrician...
With thanks to tdchrisdavis...
1 – Debose
2 – Smith
9 – McAllister
10 – Thompson
24 – Reid
55 – McDaniel
All on the Black team.
Hopkins is as well.
I think Branden Smith is number 1 on White.
Many thanks

Thanks for setting this up
I love these high school all american games. I am gad these guys get to display their talent on a national spotlight. If you can make it as the best in the nation in h.s you deserve it.
I hate how much the double and tripled up on the numbers…..thats dumb.
Barkley just got drilled by McAllister
"Your eyes can decieve you. Don't trust them." Obi-Wan Kenobi, the first sabermetrician...
Black DL
putting on an exhibition.
Could they have at least made it blue and red or something sound I don’t sound like I am talking about people based on their race.
They don't show the lines very often
But McDaniel got doubled on that last play, and still managed to break free right before the ball was thrown…looked good.
"Your eyes can decieve you. Don't trust them." Obi-Wan Kenobi, the first sabermetrician...
I'm not sure.
Haven’t heard anything about it. We’ve got to pair him with other guys to make sure he doesn’t get the double team like he is tonight.
Where does Ray Ray go?
"Your eyes can decieve you. Don't trust them." Obi-Wan Kenobi, the first sabermetrician...
Good call
Once Shannon gets fired and they get a real coach that Hurricanes team will be something special.

Maybe Dye. I know not all of you are hot on him. Haven't seen him in yet, but haven't seen the whole DL yet.
There was your Burt Reed speed from Debose
The guy looked seriously gassed every time they ran a play in his direction.
USC will have to get him on the Malaluga/Mays steroid routine from day one.
Okay, I just got in
What’d I miss in the 1st quarter?
BTW, the under armour kid is on roids
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
McDaniel had a nice pressure on that TD
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
Something interesting of note
that you may be able to shed some light on Matt…..
It seems like our recruiting base was nation wide in the start of the decade after the 90’s.
Seem like it shrunk to the Florida (not even all of it) and a little bit of the southeast.
We havent gone out west in a while
I think Kenny O’Neal is the last west coast guy we’ve gotten.
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
It is almost as impossible to get a top player out of California away from USC...
as it is to get a top player in Alabama away from that state.
I think Carroll, Saban, Miles, Brown, etc have made it a point to keep the local talent they have.
Barkley looks good. We (as in FSU commits) get good pressure on him, but he's doing well.
Jimbo recruited Barkley—don’t know how hard though. He was USC all the way.
100% unrelated: BC upset UNC in basketball
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
McDaniel did a nice job on that run
He and Josh Downs got in on that -5 yard rush.
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
Debose
But the commit by Debose isn’t final.
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
Oh Devin Hester
You went from the best returner EVER to the worst in the NFL in one season…thanks for that.
"Your eyes can decieve you. Don't trust them." Obi-Wan Kenobi, the first sabermetrician...
Hang on a minute
Is it De-BOSE or DEbose?
I thought it was DeBOSE but the announcer says DE-bose
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
Don't worry about it
He’ll pick Florida today, visit FSU later in January, and pick between us and UF.
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
I think LSU has more of a shot
UM is #4
USC is out of it.
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
It's the 2nd one hes had blocked.
And his leg has gone straight into the blocker both times. He needs to just let them block it from now on.
Maybe the PAT team just blows
Kick off sucked.
WTF.
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
Hard to tell
His first one was terrible too. Maybe hes just not that good? (I know XP’s weren’t his fault)
Nah, I think it's probably that the PAT team is
Not ready. Haven’t gotten the chemistry of the snap, hold and kick down yet.
His kickoff form is the same as his HS video where he bombs them, so I don’t know what the problem is. Maybe just nervous.
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
These double numbers are ridiculous
I mean seriously.
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
Probably not

This announcer sucks with names
No way that’s how you say Manti Te’o’s name.
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
Hopkins punt is pretty good
Good hang time.
Branden Smith got nowhere.
Dyron Dye is picking next. It says he’s down to Miami and LSU.
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
Interesting point they made about the tee.
Never thought about that before.Guess there is a learning curve even for kickers.
Yep, that's what doomed that big kicker we got a few years ago
Right before the Weed… I forget what his name was. He might have been class of 03
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
What an awkward announcement. The commentator didn't help.
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
Debose is all UF... for now
And then he might switch to FSU afterwards.
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
Textbook coverage.
I love watching DB’s and how they play the reciever. He played with his inside arm to swat the ball and his outside arm was ready to make the tackle. He broke well with the reciever and stayed on his hip pocket. I think FSU should throw everything at him.
Later...have a good night

BC is going to fire coach Jagz if he interviews with the Jets
He is currently scheduled in interview on Monday.
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
Greg Reid shows that he is only human
UF can have him!
jk… we need him
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
What is this, the Jelani Jenkins all-america game?
Did you guys know he has a 3.9 gpa? ESPN should really try to tell us these great pieces of info.
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
He nailed that kick. It could've gone 54-55 yards.
It looked like the defense was told to just jump in the air and not blitz this time.
I really like Reid
Does anyone think our future is brighter than Miami’s at this point?
Whenever we drop Bobby and his cronies, we will need to hit the ground running with some recruiter types, rebuild the talent base, then get someone to come in and dominate as a coach and recruiter.
Happy picture: if we get Reid and don’t get decimated on Monday (NCAA), we could be alright.
Reid is a beast
We really need him. Btw nice kick by Hopkins at the end of the half. Is Debose even considering us?
People who sell subscriptions say he is...
I don’t take them seriously. UF/ LSU/ MIAMI battle
I get playing for our offense… but not if you’re a defensive player. Mickey is beyond washed up and the word is out. I’ll keep up the pressure, but I think we should call this operation 2012 and not operation 2010
Poor Recruiting
The Rivals/Scout HS Recruiting phenomenon has got to put more pressure on guys like Amato who don’t recruit. The lay football fan is so much more aware of what recruits are out there. Here we are screaming about guys slipping through the cracks now because we can follow everyone’s offers and interest in each school. We as fans still don’t have power to do anything about this directly, but these poor recruiting coaches have to feel a bit more uneasy if they aren’t putting time to researching and visiting recruits.
I think the accountability and increased visibility is a great thing
These coaches get paid a lot of money and don’t perform.
The negative recruiting against our program because of our coaches is deafening. We have the oldest coaching staff in america (FACT), and some of them can’t even use a computer. While Saban is videoconferencing with recruits during their schoolday… our guys mistakenly call the internet “the ebay and the google.”
Think we maintain a decent database on recruits from grade 5 like UF does? Heck no. We rely on some hack from jacksonville for our primary evals.
Yea i think
he goes to LSU. Any chance at Smith? Ive been hearing he is a UGA silent.
I hate how they pass on every down
And I want to see Thompson!
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
Who the heck is this guy with us in his top 4

I think he could def start now. He is looking like a beast.
Isn't everyone supposed to play?
Where is Chris Thompson??
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
We need a sideline reporter to give us an update if he's injured or something.
I don’t think he’s played enough to have injured anything. I’ve only seen him on the opening kickoff and the ball went to the other returner.
An early signing day would be a nightmere
I mean, NSD is still very early
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2

Why are they kicking from the 45?
In HS you kick from the 40
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
Predicted but still...
The old guy and all his nepotistic cronies need to leave…now. Jimbo can’t do it all alone.
I’m almost on the verge of wishing for a stroke or something so Bobby can retire and live out his days on the beach counting his ill-gotten cash.
"Your eyes can decieve you. Don't trust them." Obi-Wan Kenobi, the first sabermetrician...
That sucks
But it was expected. Debose would have looked great in garnet and gold. Oh well i guess.
DeBose is good but......
Reid is the playmaker we have been looking for in that depleted secondary. Reid is a must get.
I think Debose would help,
but offensive athletes are not a HUGE need. We have those. Sure, he is an exceptional highschool player and has potential to be a Percy Harvin, but will that put us over the hump? Probably not. Reid fills a huge need and has potential to be an exceptional player. I wouldn’t put a ton of stock and resources into Debose
True enough. However...
…I think it was MattD who recently made the point that we need to keep UF from building their class. Debose a must-have? Maybe not. Debose a guy we want to face for 3 or 4 years? Absolutely not.
Not disagreeing with your point at all about Reid, but as we continue to talk about rebuilding the program, I think we need to start emphasizing the fact that what we’ve enabled Florida to do with their program has raised the bar that much higher for our comeback, and that’s why I’ve made a few posts to that effect today. Not a downer, just reality. I hate that reality, but I’ve come to accept it.
Well, true.
I think it would be more important to steal him from Florida than for us to have him, if that makes sense.
no one player will put us over the hump tho. Debose would be amazing to have. We don’t have a debose on offense. Are guys are good , but we don’t have a julio jones etc. Reid would be amazin to have also. I’m happy with our class is it is now. But one of these guys could make it even better
by Cee on Jan 5, 2009 4:05 PM EST up reply actions
He is fast. On the TD last night, he didn't run away from anybody.
I was expecting more, to tell the truth. Doesn’t look like Harvin at all.
Of course, I would give anything to have him at FSU.
Our goal is simple: Best in the land
Same thing I thought
The safety was just as fast… the big play was really just there because Brandon Smith misread the pass.
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2

Much better. Smith is the one that Debose tooled on earlier.
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
Who is still out there that we can get that will help out with this class?
besides the obvious greg reid
ur coaches haven't acknowledges Thomas' existence yet
Manboobs is assigned to recruit him… and in three years the best recruit he’s pulled was Maurice Harriss
Possibly Jacobbi if Mincey fails out.
Also Hopkins will most likely be the starting kicker.
Only other possibility is Downs at Safety
mc callister and jacobbi should be amazing for us. I remember some dude from SFLvarsity i think it was saying thompson is amazing as well. He said he would be 5 stars if it wasn’t for his size. Along with downs looks like we got 4 real good players. I didn’t get to see thompson myself, but i see the other 3 as ALL ACC 1st team in their careers.
pardon me... I just realized....days after the fact... that we were talking about different players
I definately think McAllister is an end…. McDaniel is a Tackle. no doubt about either one.
Yeah, right!
i’m a bit sad we didn’t get anyone tonight. Normally , i’d be steaming. But after reading this site i’ve been grounded. So it’;s ok haha
Depressing, eh?
Welcome to the club of people who venture away from Warchant
I can’t wait to blast Bowden and co when we get embarrassed on National signing day… again.
ouch!
perhaps for a team that didn’t even win it’s division finishing in the top 15 in recruiting can’t exactly be classified as “embarrasing”.
Even more true when you consider that they don’t know how many schollarships they have left!
Yeah, right!
In college football, you are charged with keeping up with your principal rival.
And Florida State has put itself in this position. “Ouch!” is 45-12 followed by 45-15 at home. Uncensored isn’t handing out gold stars. For FSU to get anywhere near where fans expect it to be, it has to land a top five recruiting class and keep top players away from the University of Florida. This is simply the reality of the situation we find ourselves in now.
ya gotta learn to crawl before you learn to walk tho…. Meaning it’s not realistic to hope for a top 5 recruiting class every year when we haven’t won recently. Be happy with what we got this season. Keep winning and it will come in time
by Cee on Jan 5, 2009 4:03 PM EST up reply actions
We shouldn't have to learn to crawl.
We learned to crawl, then walk, and now our program is in the adult diapers stage.
Why wait until NSD? And no one does it better than you.
Everyone at this other site seems very happy today. Of course this other site is the one that reports that “no news is good news.”
I, for one, am checking for NCAA news every five minutes.
Don’t expect us to be happy by the end of this week. I’m not sold that we won’t find out today.
What I really want to hear today is the announcement of a few coaching vacancies.
Andrew Carter
is reporting that Micky is leaving the door open still. Could be a big week of news (coaching staff, NCAA).
It's time to get the news cycle rolling.
And seriously, what could be better at this point than to announce the penalties, let go of some dead weight, and then put Jimbo behind a mic to say, “There’s going to be some changes around here.”
It’s time to start taking advantage of the very limited opportunities we have before they completely run out. After all this subterfuge, we actually have a chance to spin something positive out of this disaster by doing something like this, but does anyone actually think this would happen? Does anyone have any confidence in FSU anymore?
I think that it won't take much
to get us back to where we were. FSU, with the right people selling it, will not be a hard sell. Heck, college football is so cyclical that even if we go down, we won’t be down for long. It will just take some change, which is why I am in favor of new blood. We just need people in there that are WILLING to do the work that it will take.
Lol
Im assuming manboobs is Amato. Seriously though we need to fire him. He has done absolutely nothing since he has been here.
Rivals UGA site has an article on Greg Reid (premium content)
I’d like to see what it says. If they were to get Reid, Smith, and if you think Thomas goes there too, then that’s a dynamite DB class. (They also have two other 3-stars committed.) If we are to pull Starling and Thomas then ours looks good but still sans a potential shut-down corner. Reid is THE premier get for us right now.
Doesn't even mention FSU at all. Anywhere.
Reid talks about visiting UGA, UF, and Miss St.
Our goal is simple: Best in the land
He wants to go to the SEC I'm guessing.
We are the only ACC team that offered. I wonder who was responsible for his recruitment. Mullen is going to Miss. St. I wonder if that has any pull… granted Reid is a DB and Mullen was OC at UF.
That's what I assume too.
Our defensive coaches probably don’t even know he decommitted.
Our goal is simple: Best in the land
What a shame.
We need new energy devoted to recruiting. The great efforts of a few can’t make up for the lack of by others. The idea of a recruiting-minded running backs coach is great. Especially a RB coach who can visit recruits without daddy riding shotgun.
Reid is a guy we could throw the guarantee of lots of early playing time to… and not break our promise.
He would start next year
Even if Patrick Robinson comes back.
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
I know that Chris Thompson is visiting
I’ll ask around to find out who else is visiting.
Anyone here know? I’m not the big recruiting guy.
Stinson, Prior and Luther Robinson

Man we at least
need to get Reid here on a visit. Im getting sick and tired of our defensive recruiters, they seem so lazy.
I think we are in serious contention for Reid
I said no shot for Debose and Smith and Dye and Giddens, and got blasted for those opinions by many guys who I respect greatly, but I have a different feeling on Reid. In Fact, I am more confident in Reid than Starling, though that may show how little I think of our Starling chances.
I'm crossing fingers and toes.
Wonder if he hung out with McDaniel, McAllister, or Thompson throughout the week… Brothers Mac got good pressure and forced the White (team) QBs to throw some ducks his way.
