USF @ FSU in 2009? Maybe so
Brett McMurphy of the Tampa Tribune: University of South Florida and Florida State officials have had discussions about a home-and-home football series that would start this fall in Tallahassee.
The Bulls’ 2009 schedule is done, but USF is willing to substitute a road game — most likely at Indiana — to play at FSU. The Seminoles only have 11 games and need another home game.
This would be pretty sweet. USF isn't good and FSU could silence a lot of rumblings about their "up and coming" program. USF loses their top 2 wide receivers, their RB, 4 of 5 starting offensive linemen, and 5 starters on defense. Good luck next year, USF. Returning senior QB Grothe threw 12 picks in 7 conference games.
Let's all hope this gets done.

I'm with evenflow.
Why should we see this get done. I am in the belief that you either schedule cup-cakes or opponents that will put you on the national stage for your out of conf. open schedule games. This is neither.
i disagree UNF
This will serve a great purpose (assuming we win). Any borderline prospects that might consider them over us in our back yard will rethink that idea. This is a game to keep them from being the self proclaimed 4th in the “big 4” Ive actually heard fans saying this. Some being brash enough to say they replaced us in the big 3. If we play them, and beat them (which again, we should) this quiets all of it. For good.
There is another side to the coin though, God forbid we lose.
I was hating the game...
…but now that it’s a done deal, I’m with Miaminole. The opportunity to take out USF is a good one, especially with Miami beginning a significant series with USF next year. We could go from playing with this notion of 4th in the state to letting those two fight for 3rd pretty quickly.
And yes, no matter how favorable the match-up will be in our favor (and it will be), the flip side of that coin is going to wake everyone of us up screaming at least once between now and the start of football season. Remember, it’s just a dream. You would never go into Doak Campbell Stadium without your clothes on. (Unless you were a Paysite Cowbabe or one of those Sparkly Glitterboys. Make that two nightmares before football season.)
I think avoidance
is the biggest way to avoid them being ‘big 4.’ People have largely discounted the Big East now, if they can’t win the big east no one is going to give them love. However, if they start beating Miami and FSU, then it is without question going to up their prestige. I think we should ignore them, just like they are doing to UCF.
Was my opinion too, and I agree with your thought process completely.
But it’s a done deal, and Miami had already set up their series, and UF had already added them looking for an extra patsy back in the day – i.e., it was probably already foregone sooner rather than later anyway. At least we’ve seen that UCF never rose up despite games against the big 3. (I concede the home-and-home makes it a much different scenario.) All we can do now is hopefully sack them and move on.
By the way, since I agree with your premise, obviously if you want to argue the incompetence of our administration… you’ll get no argument here.
I think the bottom line is this..
either we are up an coming to be one of the prominent programs in the country, or we aren’t.
The fact that we are worried about this makes me sick. I did not grow up a Seminole fan. I grew up rooting for UM, but I got sucked into it by coming to school here. I become a fan with Rix, I never got to enjoy greatness. The point to mentioning is that I want to be a fan of a monster program. Bobby has gotten stale, and selfish. I have never written or thought that before now, but I have come around. You can see his understandable reluctance to let go of the reins. That said, Im not him, so I dont care. I think our program can be great again; and if we have to stomp USF to do it, then do it. If we lose, we are that much further from being what I might foolishly think we can be. Either way, I want to know.
It is confirmed, here next season, in Tampa in 2012
Sept. 26 at Doak … I don’t know, USF always looks good early before they implode, so this looks dicey to me. We should be much better, but they’ll be jacked and 3-0 when they come into that game (they have Wofford, WKU and FIU up first).
I’d just a soon not play them since it is pretty much win-win for them — it pretty much legitimizes them even more — and it does little for us. They have everything to gain. It’d be great to crush them, but I’m not that confident in the Noles just yet. Oh well, spilled milk now, just gotta hope the Noles will continue to improve as they did this past season.
