Coach Bowden Needs To Be Forced Out
I no longer see why there should be much debate on this. When you are almost 80 years old, coaching college football is not where you need to be.
I have been willing to try and not be too critical for years but lately I can't shake the feeling that I have just had enough of coach Bobby Bowden. I instinctively realized something was wrong when Jeff Bowden was hired as offensive coordinator. In my mind history shows my instincts were correct.
Let us skip the debate on what coach Bowden has done for FSU and consider what he is going to do for FSU the next two years. He is going to be a further drag on the football program and the University itself. It is really that simple. To cut through the chafe I believe coach Bowden is operating on ego only at this point. I also believe two and one half millions dollars is hard to walk away from whether it is in the interests of the university or not.
Now many people will say coach Bowden is an icon. Yes he is but let us look at a similar situation. At UF coach Steve Spurrier was also an icon. He made UF relevant in football really for the first time in it's history. When he left and was considering a return, University of Florida President Bernie Machen stepped in and drew the line. He wanted Meyer and that was it. There was no talk of what Steve had done for the program or icons. The bottom line was what will make UF a better football program.
If you look around now, he was right. Steve Spurrier would not have won two national titles in three years. It simply would not have happened. What FSU has needed for some time is the same sort of decision making at the higher echelons of Florida State University. Some serious thought by the boosters should help. It is their money.
I would hope they look at this carefully. Coach Bowden is not going to make the right decisions on his own. His contract is coming up for renewal. In the meantime we have not extended coach Trickett's contract. It is my opinion that reductions in salary should be considered for coach Bowden in order to keep coaches who are coaching at Florida State.
If coach Fisher or Trickett bolted FSU at this point it would set the program back years. I really feel the ball is in the court of T. K. Wetherell and and boosters at this point. Give it some thought and do what is right.

DA TRUTH
I must admit i to this point have backed Bobby Bowden in staying for as long as he wants. That being said i have now truly realized that while we are getting the athlethes, we are not getting the proper coaching in order for us to be dominant again. The sooner Jimbo takes over as head coach, the sooner we will get to reaching dominance.
He would be forced out now
if the majority of our fanbase didn’t have such short memories or weren’t so easily duped. Everyone needs to keep this in mind:
WE DID NOT {really) go 9-4! We played 2 gimmes against what we in reality two of the worst programs in DII, We were actually 7-4, and if we had instqaed played two more avaerage D1 teams, we would likely be 7-6 - the same record that got Jeffrey canned!
Tired-- I think that's a bit far
Nobody plays 8 conference games and 4 games against bcs conference teams.
If we played two average D1 teams we would still be 9-4.
The important comparison to make is our ACC winning % (minus duke, a gimme over the past 10 years, not counting this year as we didn’t play them)
This year- 5-3 (63)
2007: 3-4 (43)
2006: 2-5 (29%)
Take FAU and FIU— we still destroy them.
depends on the definition of "average".
I’m thinking if we play any two teams from the SEC, Big 12, Pac 10 and maybe even the WAC, we lose.
Any? I disagree here.
The point still stands… no team plays 12 games against good conferences.
It’s illogical to replace the D1-AA schools with power conference schools.

i remember reading
FSU finished with the 2nd toughest schedule in the nation. ( i’m not 100% positive on this )
I'd say what's illogical
is for some fans to feel good about about a record intentionally inflated by playing 2 DII schools, which we didn’t do in the past. Bowden essentially admitted we scheduled downward this year to look better.
I want to see changes myself
On the other hand I do claim 9-4. The team finished #21 in the AP and 16th in the Massey College index. This is a composite of course but it had FSU around 20th all year which I think was much closer than most of the major polls. I consider fairly reliable.
A #16 rating should be about right to begin the season next year. I am all for change but I don’t to cut short what the team actually accomplished this year. Things could be a lot better and move along faster but we are still talking about at top 25 team here.
