DB Greg Reid joins H-Back Orson Charles on official visit
"Greg Reid was a Florida commitment last week. Just 24 hours ago, the highly regarded athlete from Lowndes County (Ga.) was set to visit Alabama for a weekend visit. But on Friday evening, one of the nation's premier cornerbacks was on his way to Tallahassee for an official visit to Florida State according to sources familiar with Reid’s recruiting process. That decision followed a meeting with FSU coordinators Jimbo Fisher and Mickey Andrews in Valdosta earlier on Friday." Steve Ellis has better sources than me. I knew about this today but promised not to say anything until tomorrow. He has cranked his game to a new level.

Good news I guess
I still don’t think we land him.

What's a sign and place?

For example:
1. We sign Greg Reid
2. He doesn’t quailfy
3. We (FSU) places him at Hargave or a JuCo.
Basically the gist of it.
Our goal is simple: Best in the land
Thanks

Apparently he's cleaned up his academics and could potentially make it in this year. And all this hooplah about wanting bigger corners.
…its just that, hooplah. Florida’s corners? 5’10 and 5’10.
The most important two skills a cornerback must possess is hip flexibility out of breaks with acceleration, and the experience to make the receiver run at his pace. “Keeping him on the body” basically. The second can only be obtained by corners playing corner (novel) and the former is usually found in smaller guys (basic body physics parameters)
Reid and Byrd at corner would be just what the doctor ordered.
If he's not going to make it in anyway, he doesn't count toward our limit...
I see no harm in signing him.
If he makes it, I’m sure there’s a white safety whose ship we can pull.
hmm, and give that scholarship to a certain safety prospect from Dade?
Our goal is simple: Best in the land
He is not
in any worse shape then Willie Downs, I would even say Willie is more incline not to qualify then Reid. I know someone close to the school system in Lowdens and it is said that he is in a lot better shape to get in then a lot of people think. Marcus Ball and Noel Devine are two that come to mine that everyone said would not qualify and both did. Jimbo is one to look at transcripts, very rarely does he waste his time going all out for someone not making it in.
Jimbo on the visit...
… along with Mickey lets this kid know we really want him.
I’m happy to see that.
Blake Snider the other greyshirt offensive lineman Trickett signed has made it campus also. Says he is raring to go.
Don’t underestimate the two star either this kid can be a player. He had some knee injuries from the championship game in highschool but he is 6-5, 285 and hit 308 as a baseball player in highschool. He is also a coaches son.
Trick liked his attitude and when he asked him if he was afraid to play D-1 football, the kid said I am not afraid of nothing.
That's one kid I have no read on. Someone sent me a picture of him-- he looks solid.
Furlong on the other hand… looks like he has wasted away down to about 235lbs. Sad.
We have corner with that type speed provides he comes back from the injury and that is A. J. Alexander. Some of the kids he went to highschool with in Pennsylvania say the coaches wanted him to play defensive back there that he can tackle.
I will tell you why I don’t give up on this one and it is because Trickett went after him balls to the wall and I trust Trickett. Even when others had given up Trickett kept after him and don’t forget it was Trick who recruited Pat White at WVU. The man knows talent and not just at offensive line positions. He is looking for an attitude.
Alexander is just an athlete
I don’t think there’s any reason to believe he can play corner until he shows at least a hint of that in practice.
Jimbo and Mickey doing this means somebody is aware Dex is terrible.
I’m glad they heeded my advice and took him off this one.
Good job, MatDNole
Matt: Hey coach, Dex is functionally illiterate, maybe don’t have him on our most important defensive recruit?
Jimbo: Hadn’t thought of that. Good call. Dex! Look! Candy, over there!
Dex: where??
Jimbo (To Mickey): in the car, now!
Dex: mmm blowpop
How awkward must that car ride have been?
….
“So, you’re sticking around this year huh?”
chew chew chew spit sunflower seed “Yup”
“Could you please at least use a cup holder?”
chew chew chew spit “Nope”
“I’ve been meaning to talk to you about the season. You know I’m trying to start acting like a big boy since I’m going to be in charge pretty soon. What the heck were you thinking with those DTs in the Tech game?!”
chew chew chew “Intensity.”
“Well that doesn’t even make sense. And your gameplan against Florida was?”
- spit chew spit chew chew spit* “Execution.”
“Right. Ok, we here we are at Lowndes.”
chew chew spit chew spit chew sneeze chew scream cuss chew spit chew “Looks like forest.”
“What’s that? Oh no it’s definitely Lowndes High School. Tell you what. I’ll go park the car while you go tell the principal we’re here. Ok?”
chew chew “Recess. Lunch. Intensity. Execution. Home Ec.” spit
SCREECH “I’ll just tell everybody he got lost. I can finally hire a DC who doesn’t remember what it was like to recruit kids during a draft!! Now if I can only convince Bobby and Chuck that we’re taking a road trip to Branson.”
For the record, I don't think we get Reid.
This visit will wear off and it will be a UF/UGA battle.
Hopefully Demps can do a good job selling him after this. We need to be counting on his teammate.
Our goal is simple: Best in the land
Does Bobby even know who Reid is?
Or even Charles?
I found it ridiculous that he hasn’t even talked with the guys considering the NFL draft.

Why would the players talk to him?
Get a feel for what his NFL connections are saying? He doesn’t have NFL connections.
Some adult guidance for a big decision
Many players used to consider Bobby to be a father to them. Then he was a grandfather. Now he’s the great grandfather, I guess.

It's a reasonable assumption to make that the visitors will be at the basketball game today...
so if you see Greg and Orson, BEG them to come to Florida State.
GREG REID, clap clap clap GREG REID, clap clap clap. . . . .
Like that?
Our goal is simple: Best in the land
Trust me... I have their faces tattooed
I will beg them. I will get my friend to start the Greg Reid Orson Charles chant.
Alabama chanted "Trent, Trent, Trent" when Richardson entered the stadium this year.
I knew where he was going after that.
If we could get an “Orson Charles, clap, clap, clapclapclap” going, that’d be phenomenal.
Are you going to the game?
Obviously there’s got to be strength in numbers. I only know so many people, and majority of the student section is clueless. Hahaha…
I live in Tuscaloosa (law school)
Starting my reading on Banking law. Will watch it and DVR it.

Wish me luck man!!
I’m going to do my best. You think if I ask for an autograph (to be honest, I don’t give a crap… lol), they’ll feel royalty and want to come here?
I didn't see them at the game.
I was hoping for a “We Need Reid” and a “Orson Char-les.. clap clap clap clap clap”
According to the other thread there was a Charles chant
Both were there with some coaches. One of them left early with EJ Manuel, Reid’s mom was talking to Fisher.

Unfortunately, I was sitting in level 3...
The top section. I didn’t see any of them. Where were they? By FSU’s bench, Duke’s bench or the Noles Zone? I didn’t hear a chant either.
News outlets
Have Charles down to five teams, us being one of them. What is unusual is that Miami is not one of those teams as he grew up a Cane fan.
Giddens committed to USF over UF within the past 24 hours so finally some bad news for them after winning the NC and Bobby coming back.
The Marve debacle made him eliminate Miami,
Miami will get no more players from Plant HS.
Excellent news on Giddens.
Giddens would have been great for us.
We really should have been all over this kid. He and Demonte would be scary good together.
Charles will not most likely sign on National Signing Day as he will need an extra weekend to get out to either USC or Tenn. Expect a regional buzz about him like the National buzz was for Prior last year.
Yeah me too.
My gut says he goes out of state. Old man Kiffin going there really helps as Charles plays a mean DE as well as being an incredible TE/HB. I have heard that Charles is not qualified yet though.
The qualifying thing is news to me.
I am going to write an article for Charles showing him how he will be used at FSU
Me too.
I thought he was good to go and he may in fact be but I just wanted to relay that there is some believe he needs to get his SAT score up.
By the way was there supposed to be some news on ‘Coach’ Carter this weekend?
Oh
Word is that Bowden ripped him a new one at a 1-1 dinner, Thursday. Bobby, on direction from jimbo, tore Dexter Carter up last night at a private dinner they had. Carter sent ONE letter to a recruit all year. All other coaches sent three per week throughout the season.
That is just what I have heard, so let me say it is rumor and I am not asserting it as exact fact.
I can't tell if you're joking
Bobby actually ruffled someone else’s feathers?

Man
Lets hope that really happened. Thats pathetic if he only sent one letter to a recruit all year.
