At least it won't be on Raycom

It looked like it was broadcast from the moon yesterday.

Here’s a question: What are the new offensive and defensive ranks for the Noles? I have a morbid curiosity to see how low the D can go

2 Tickets to Game

I don’t know if this is against the rules on TN, so I apologize in advance. I have 2 tickets to the Clemson game and can’t go. Does anyone want them? I live in Atlanta and can mail them or schedule a time to meet.

Worst game for EJ to start in other than UF (tough defense, tough environment).

by lul on Nov 1, 2009 3:27 PM EST up reply actions

The more I think about it, the more I like it

We obviously aren’t winning the ACC, but have an outside shot at a bowl.

As 38Noles alluded to

the bright side is that Ponder won’t be further injured by the Clemson d-line, and maybe he’ll be healthy for the more winnable games against Wake Forest and Maryland.

Pick your battles, those are easily the more winnable games. If we get blown out, Fisher and Co can easily explain it on the recruiting trail. (Freshman QB in Death Valley).

Besides, it excites me to see what EJ might do. I really think this could be a great learning experience for him. (Baptism by fire). This wouldn’t be a bad game for EJ to start. No pressure, no expectations. He won’t be intimidated by anything the rest of his career if he starts this.

Let’s see what he can do, if in fact Ponder does not play. Make no mistake, I would rather Ponder play, but if he is injured, start EJ. Basically a meaningless game.

I agree

and as good at Clemson’s defense is, they aren’t invincible. If we can establish a run game (yes I know, with the inconsistency thus far its a huge if), EJ could make play a decent game. Its not like he’s a bum.

by truenole87 on Nov 1, 2009 5:02 PM EST up reply actions

No they aren't

They copied that story from the AP. Same for Yahoo/Rivals.

I will wait and see what we say sometime this week before believing what some no-name writer says. I do think Manuel would do fine if he were to start.

How soon in do we start on side kicking?

by lul on Nov 1, 2009 3:28 PM EST reply actions

This loss could be as big as the one to UF

If Clemson doesn’t get too cute, they should be able to put up 50+. Just run Spiller outside like UNC did and he’ll be looking at 200 yards rushing easy.

And without Ponder I don’t know if we can even be counted on to put up 17.

I think the bright side is that Ponder won’t be further injured by the Clemson d-line, and maybe he’ll be healthy for the more winnable games against Wake Forest and Maryland.

glad its a night game on ESPN

But I do not see us putting 50 on you, even with your defense being awful, something tells me we’ll try to shit the bed.

If Ponder plays, he’ll run all over us. Scrambling QBs beat our ass all year, even CCU’s guys were able to move on us.

Ponder is one of those guys who does not look fast until you realize he just ran for the first down.

by marlins44 on Nov 1, 2009 10:41 PM EST up reply actions

A night game might make it a more convenient game to watch, but that crowd will be in an absolute frenzy. Historically that crowd gets to us even more than Florida Field.

My mistake, didn’t catch that the original guy was a Clemson fan. Welcome.

by 38Noles on Nov 1, 2009 5:57 PM EST up reply actions

anything short of an absolute miracle....

Clempsun will get their all time offense highs against this d and spiller will shoot into the heisman race like a rocket. Then the next week you will be wondering what the hell happened when your O looks average and then it hits you…the fsu d was indeed garbage. Wow they really did stink.
I expect the the very worst and hope for a few bright spots. With CP7 possibly out it might get very ugly.Figures CP might be out on this type of national stage….
Miracles do happen however and we better not waste it on CU.

Season stats

I would like to see what Ponder’s whole season stats will be, if he plays every game

by wholeNole on Nov 1, 2009 5:36 PM EST reply actions

Ponders' Stats

3679.5 Yards
19.5 Touchdowns
4.5 Interceptions

The above are extrapolated out for a 12 game season based off of the first 8 games. Below are his season averages for the first 8 games. Just multiply the averages by 1 or 2 to get the totals to include possible ACCCG and Bowl games.

69.4 Completion %
151.16 Rating
306.7 Yards/Game
8.23 Yards/Attempt
4.3 TD/INT
1.63 TD/Game
.375 INT/Game

Small chance

It is a small chance, but w/ Ponder I think we have a chance – we lit up NorCar’s good defense. We could use the old WAC rules, if you score a TD every time you have the ball, then you win.

The good news is

that we don’t play Duke!!! And Clemson did lose to Maryland. Prediction: FSU 41 Clemson 35

by nole2112 on Nov 1, 2009 7:17 PM EST reply actions

Looks like CU could be without Bowers...

I guess Ponder’s health will be known around Thurs or so. With your offensive firepower and Clemson’s history of pissing away golden opportunities, I think you are giving Clemson too much credit too soon. If Ponder plays, this thing will be a shootout similar to the CU-Miami or FSU-NCST game. The loss of Bowers combined with the mobility of Ponder could be trouble for the Tigers.

Ponder hasn't run

much this year. And he’s going to have bruised ribs. He looked like he was in a good bit of pain Saturday, so there’s no chance he’s pain-free for this game, either.

by tricknole on Nov 1, 2009 10:35 PM EST up reply actions

EJ will probably get first team reps all week, but there is no way I see CP sitting out. I still hope we can qualify for a bowl game just so we can get those three extra weeks of practice.

Even if we make a bowl, I don't think any of this defensive staff will be there to coach in it...

I'd still prefer not to

Speeds up decisions and lets Jimbo and Coley (and the new defensive staff) get out and recruit, which is the most important thing right now.
