Jeff Casteel
It's funny. The same writer mention Casteel as a possibility in a Nov 4th column, let the buzz build from that, and now is pretty much noting the buzz he himself created.
Jeff Casteel would likely be a good one for FSU, but I wonder if Dienhart is getting a little cash from Casteel's agent for this.

Tommy West?
I just through up in my mouth a little, if that happens FSU will never see another dime from me again.
"It boils down to one of two things: It's either the horses or the jockeys. And we think we have some pretty good horses."
It's funny he says
Casteel and West are the names being discussed the most. ???? The only place I’ve seen West’s name mentioned is on Yahoo. I just googled “Tommy West” “Florida State” and “defensive coordinator” together and the only hits that came up that weren’t about Virginia Tech “DC” Foster taking over for “West” while mentioning former “FSU” QB Stockstill also up for the job was Dienhart’s columns.

these are BB picks
listened to Jeff C show and was said the BB is running his own search and he didnt get the memo its fishers pick
It has started
the circus i mean, Bowden trying to find his guys, man this is not going to be pretty.
Somebody set us up the Bowden. All your field are belong to us.
I keep hearing this
That Fish already has him picked and that he is already set to come here, etc. But then everyone always give various answers. Who are you hearing? Sal?
I am not one to spread rumors, but here is the latest rumor I have heard that I want to spread.
Fisher wants either Smart or Sal. Smart has been pretty much ruled out because he wants his next move to be to HC, he considers FSU a lateral move, and he believes staying on as Nick Satan’s puppet is the best way to become a HC, even though most knowledgeable people know he is only playing second fiddle on Satan’s run defense.
Reportedly, that only leaves one option and I think most of us will be happy with that choice.
But I do guess anything can happen until someone is signed and announced.
>-----:----:------>Spear 'em then Scalp 'em
that keeps getting suggested too
that he’s already picked. I hear who it’s not a lot, and to date it is apparently not:
West, Casteel, Smart, Dunbar, Diaz …
about the only two prominent names I don’t recall hearing aren’t not on the list (think I got those negatives all right) are Travis Jones and Sal. Of course, there is also a world of candidates it could be who’ve not been mentioned, total surprises.

I heard Jones is off the short list, but I don't know why.
>-----:----:------>Spear 'em then Scalp 'em
What about Hudson
I heard his name recently. I know he has done a good job at ECU, but honestly, he doesnt sound very appealing.
His name was hot for awhile, but for some reason that again I don't know, has cooled down.
>-----:----:------>Spear 'em then Scalp 'em
Hudson was a prominent name
before Andrews announced his retirement, but seemed to vanish. Could be due to his team’s performance this year, or as a Notre Dame alum, it could be due to an expectation that he would join that staff in the near future.
Once the prominent names withdraw from the ND job (assuming it becomes available), Skip Holtz could become the top candidate, in which case Hudson probably goes with him as ND’s DC.

Also, I would not rule Diaz out as a LB coach being groomed to become a Div 1 DC someday.
>-----:----:------>Spear 'em then Scalp 'em
Im a fan of Diaz
He’s young, energetic and seems to put a good product on the field. I wish he would come here and take the step in the direction of being groomed to be our next DC.
I honestly believe that if he is offered a position at FSU, he would leave TM and Stockstill faster than a crack whore will go down on you for a rock.
>-----:----:------>Spear 'em then Scalp 'em
my ultimate point in posting this fanshot
was really to belittle this writer for Yahoo. He talks of buzz, but googling around on those names shows the only one mentioning West and Casteel are him and fan blogs quoting him as the source.

I think
He picked it up off another site where it mentioned those are BB’s choices or the other site picked it up off him.
Say goodbye to Jimbo....
if Casteel or West or any other Bowden hire is made.
This is a Bobby move to drive off Jimbo once and for all and from what I hear, it will work (ie, if Bobby makes the DC hire, Jimbo will leave FSU Jan 11, 2011 or whatever that contract date is).
Bobby is about to drop a nuclear bomb on FSU with this DC hire.
You might be right
but I have some very good sources and they have NO idea. So unless you have a direct line to TK or Bobby, I just don’t know…
What are you talking about??
So now Bobby has it out for Jimbo, some kind of vendetta?? Bobby won’t be making any hire. Sure, he may be back next year in some capacity, but it will be Jimbo’s team and Jimbo’s staff.
You think...
it is outlandish to think Bobby wants Jimbo out?
Again, Bobby may not make the hire, but what I hear is doubt and confusion….nobody knows and that is the issue.
I am glad you know…..but my sources which I trust, are concerned.
I don't think
that Bobby even knows what he thnks half the time! I am 100% certain there is doubt and confusion, and that is all on the BOD, BOT, TK, and Spetman. They are spineless and weak. We have no leadership right now and it’s hurting not just the football program, but the University as a whole. There is no confusion on Jimbo’s side, he knows what he wants, and my “sources” tell me he has his man lined up. I just don’t see how this is not going to get ugly…
I agree...
Jimbo knows who he wants.
But apparently, nobody has the guts to tell Bobby he isn’t making the hire. And if nobody stands up to him and by chance gets to make the hire. I am hearing Jimbo is GONE. He has to stay one more year by contract, but he will stop recruiting and wipe his hands clean of this BS.
Believe me. Bobby wants Jimbo gone. I think he has those intentions. I still think he wants to bring in Terry or Tommy in as his OC.
Will it happen? I don’t know….but it is a LOT closer to realit than many will accept..and that is the worry.
He may
want to bring in Terry or Tommy, but I guarantee that will NEVER happen…
If Jimbo doesn't name a DC within
10 days of the final reglar season game. Things have gone VERY bad.
That is all I am saying.
noles55...I really hope you are just stirring the pot a little
Not calling you out but can you give generic titles of who your people in the know are (i.e. Member of BOT or something similiar). Your comments are very troubling if they have an ounce of validity to them. Again, not trying to call you out but these comments are kind of off the charts of disturbing.
I have no inside sources but cannot for the life of me believe that FSU would allow Bobby to make the call on a hire for DC. It goes so far against common sense and logic that it is becomes borderline conspiracy theory.
I however can believe that Bowden wants Jimbo gone….his comments, actions, and overall postering leaves little doubt that he wants to remain in charge at FSU. And I believe Ann’s comments should burn into every FSU fans mind how the Bowdens feel about FSU and its fans. Make no mistake, Ann and Bobby are on the same page, Bobby made no attempt to contradict what she said because he feels the exact same way.
Let me be specific....
I am not saying it WILL happen. I am saying…it is still possible for all anyone knows right now.
My sources, whom I trust (but you don’t have too…that is fine), are very nervous that it is even possible (not so much likely…as still a possibility).
They went so far as to say Jimbo is gone if Bobby wins this.
Here is to hoping we laugh about this in a month and everything goes as we hope and not this worse case.
But FSU can’t afford to take it for granted Bobby will do the right thing for FSU right now.
Jimbo leaving would be career suicide
"It boils down to one of two things: It's either the horses or the jockeys. And we think we have some pretty good horses."
Not saying your sources are bad. Just wondering where they get their information
And I think this post clears it up for me at least. Saying its a possible situation and not probable. And I can’t 100% disagree with that logic. It is surreal how bad this situation has become. We need a hired gun for the next president (where’s Clint Eastwood when you need him) to come in and give Bowden the boot.
I honestly still believe that this is all about creating a large nest egg of hush money or just go away money. Bowden knows that to the uniformed (the majority) he appears to be the victim. He is playing that role very well too.
That's the thing about sources...
It could be your sister, you might have a friend who has a friend that dates and FSU cheerleader, it could be another anonymous poster from a premium site that you paid $9.95/month for, therefore you feel you can call it a source… It could be anything.
There’s a reason that un-named sources are pretty much useless.
Side note...
I hear you on the conspiracy theory thing….but I find it amusing how many of those who pointed out some of Bobby’s ‘consipracty theories’ were likely correct.
I think Bobby had full intention and believe he would have his sons coaching at FSU. If FSU hadn’t fallen apart, I think he might of pulled it off.
Many folks often talked of folks who knocked Bobby as loonies, but read some of Anne’s latest comments. They show the attitidue of the Bowden’s don’t make some of the theories so outlandish.
I wouldn't put it past Bobby
to try and assert his power and attempt to name the next DC. I don’t even think it would be specifically targeting Jimbo as much as it would be selfishly wielding power.
No matter what, Tommy or Terry will not be the new OC. Even Bobby Bowden does not have enough leverage to repeat the nepotism act. (not that he has as much leverage as he thinks anymore) That wound is too fresh and the scrutiny is much more intense than it was when Jeff was here.
NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
(Think tragic scene from your favorite drama) If Jimbo leaves I’m gonna shave my head & move to Alaska!

He wont....
noles55 is delusional with his “sources”. Bobby has said many times that Jimbo is like a son to him and doesn’t want him out. Bobby also won’t be making anymore hires.
Sorry, he hasn't been unreliable in the past
You’re delusional if you think Bobby’s actions indicate he’s going to go quietly whenever it is that he goes
>>---l>
And people don't lie?
"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."
"But How will I know limits from lies, if I never try."

Yes, he does
He blames Jimbo for the firing of his son and blames him for keeping Terry from getting the WVU job.
I disagree..
Jimbo didn’t orchestrate some behind the scenes plan to get rid of Jeff. If Bobby is mad at anyone, it would be the fans, boosters, media, etc who ALL bashed Jeff consistently and threatened to stop giving $$ to FSU if he remained. I’m unsure about the second part though as I have no reliable info on that.
I don't think Bobby can make such a hire
what DC candidate would take the job who
1) knows the HCIW doesn’t want him – or -
2) to be a “tool” to drive off the HCIW?
IF it were West or Casteel as Bobby’s candidates, neither is so desparate and unqualified to need the job in those circumstances.

You might be right...
but I have some very good sources and they have NO idea. So unless you have a direct line to TK or Bobby, I just don’t know…
Here's the link
from the Jeff Cameron show that has the comments that Bowden is looking to hire the DC himself. The conversation includes commentary from Gene Williams from Warchant.
It doesn't matter what Bobby "thinks"
he can or can’t do. He and his family are purposely going to make this difficult no matter how it turns out. FSU needs them more than they need FSU, remember??? Comments like that make me believe that FSU may not be budging on the Bowden’s demands. Change will come, or the $$ will dry up. For instance, the indoor practice facility….
The media is stirring the pot too
and many of you are falling for it. They want to spin this thing like a soap opera to keep you hanging on every word.
Lol our athletic department does resemble a soap opera
A big, incompetent, clusterf*** of a soap opera
>>---l>
I have a feeling most of the rumor-mongering in this thread is hysteria & hogwash.
Bobby’s not conducting a separate search, and even if he was, it would have no impact on the final decision, short of Jimbo’s blessing.
Second, no one with a last name of Bowden will be coaching at FSU past 2011 for at least another 20 years. The Boosters, BOT, and administration would simply never let it happen. The JB hire barely squeaked through when FSU was at the peak of its dynasty and Bowden had ALL of the political marbles. Those are spent, and the climate is now far too hostile. Bowden’s threat to walk was the only thing that made it happen last time, and that threat has lost some of its teeth, to say the least. (Ever read that blog site, some folks refer to as “TN?”)
Don’t get all worked up about any of this stuff. Usual sources wouldn’t be tipping their hand because they probably don’t know. It’s a very competitive market for coaches and the moves create a lot of chaos and resentment among various parties. Any slips of information about candidate searches potentially piss off the candidates themselves, agents, coaching colleagues, and athletic and academic administrations.
If it is done the right way, you won’t hear about anything until details are iron-clad. To me, it’s a good sign that no one knows anything.
well put
I think there is a lot of stirring of the pot by the media. It makes good drama, which gets listeners/readers which sells ads/subscriptions.
The fact is, as I pointed out, no decent candidate is going to talk to Bobby about the job without knowing Jimbo is supporting it. It very well could be that Jimbo is focused now on coordinating the offense and preparing for the next two (hopefully three) games. Bobby may be merely doing the early screening, based on a list of candidates both agreed to. West and Casteel are only being mentioned by one source from what I can tell.

Media
People kill me trying to blame the media. FSU is a shadow if its former self so on the national level our insanity is not bringing in sales. Proof of this is how these stories don’t even lead College Football Live on ESPN and never make the cut to Sportscenter. I am sure if Ann hadn’t gone completely off kilter in her quotes the article would have not made the cut to the USA Today.
As for the media stirring up the pot about Bowden and his coaching search, I just can’t see Jeff Cameron doing that on air. I can understand some people having doubts about the Yahoo/Rivals/Warchant network because of the general outlook on WC, but it wouldn’t fit Cameron. I have also seen other boards not affiliated with the Rivals network that have made mention of Casteel being in the running, complete with their own “insiders” who say their sources have said contact has been made by Bowden. But that is just how the interweb works so take it with a grain of salt.
I firmly believe Bobby has it in his head to choose and hire a DC himself. I think he still believes he has “it”, knows what is best for his team and believes next year will be his return to glory. So it doesn’t shock me that he wants to wield his power. But the real reason why people are about to jump out of buildings is because there is no faith in the Prez or the AD to handle this.
How much of the stiring the pot could be coaches' agents then?
Could they be slipping the info to the media to get raises for these guys? I would laugh at the idea, but we have seen it work before.
I believe I raised that possibility in the OP
I wonder if Dienhart is getting a little cash from Casteel’s agent for this.
