Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

I probably won't even watch the game

I can't be the only one.  I just can't take it.  It's too freaking embarrassing I'd rather not ruin my vacation.

It might be this site is making me super negative cos in past years I would delude myself into thinking that we had a shot but now I just don't know if it's worth it.  I know it's being realistic but sometimes this site is just too freaking depressing.

Am I the only one?

This site just speaks the truth...

Sometimes the truth hurts, but I would still rather be told the truth (even though it hurts) then to be lied to and given optimistic fluff which only sets up for an even bigger let down. There is a lot to be said these days for a site that still speaks the truth, be it good or bad news.

TN and its members speak the truth unabashedly...

…because the product is depressing. It’s the subject matter that’s depressing you, not our takes on it. What happens on Saturdays is what’s got you down – we prepare you for it and do everything we can to get people to wake up and change it. (By we I mean the community, not the blog per se, since I can’t speak for TN, but I feel comfortable speaking for my friends here.)

As for the game, watch. Take in every minute of the team you can, always take in the experience, learn from every snap, and remember there’s always that you-just-never-know element to football, and you wouldn’t want to miss it if the unthinkable happens. I said 3% chance (I think) at the beginning of the season, and that still seems about right. But as wolffbird7 would say… [intentionally left blank for the reader to provide his own amusement]. Cheers.

Because of holiday, I have to sit at a house where they will not only root for Florida but love love love Tebow because he is from the area.

I am not one to not speak my mind but its family so I must bite my lip most of the time.

So instead, I may take my dogs to the bitch with a 6 pack and enjoy that time instead of being immersed in misery.

On the other hand, I haven’t missed a game in a really long time so I must be a glutton for punishment.

Beach not bitch

See, my bitterness already overflows and I am cussing early about this game.

by diablonole on Nov 25, 2009 2:01 PM EST up reply actions

I have figured it out......

Drink heavy.
1. By halftime you will forgot the previous play that just happened.
2. By the end of the game you will not even remeber what you just did for the past 3.5 hours.

But if a miracle happens then somehow the drunken stupper wil go away and you will remember what happened.

Rats, I knew I didn't save enough Coronas

I would like to add the following, though:

- Any time the announcers use the word “urgency”

Mangum

missing a tackle alone will get us all hammered by the end of the 1st Quarter. Not to mention all the rest.

How much do we get to drink if Mangum actually MAKES a tackle?

Hey, it happened in the last game. Lightning can strike twice.

by PhillyNole on Nov 26, 2009 7:38 PM EST up reply actions

That's some comedy gold right there, Pinto.

I thought I was the only one:

- TV announcers laugh and excitedly say "I’ve never seen that before!" when the FSU offensive line doesn’t move after an offsides penalty on UF
- those same announcers praise former Marine Rick Trickett for installing "discipline" in his linemen after said play

Seriously, do these people even watch film during the week? This is God’s gift to sane people to negate the weekly endorsements of Bobby’s tyrany. If only sane people were listening.

by TRMNole on Nov 27, 2009 11:05 AM EST up reply actions

Those of us who comment in the game threads have noticed this pretty much every week

I think there was one game recently where the announcers didn’t say anything, and we were shocked.

by PhillyNole on Nov 27, 2009 11:28 AM EST up reply actions

Ha - sorry I missed.

If I had more time, I’d definitely read through the game thread each week (I used to); it’s about the only thing I miss on here these days – TN has the best game threads. Last year I used the basketball threads to catch up on the action when I missed a game – they read as a play-by-play synopsis.

by TRMNole on Nov 27, 2009 5:53 PM EST up reply actions

* it's about the only thing I miss = have to skip

Important clarification. I couldn’t live without TN.

by TRMNole on Nov 27, 2009 5:57 PM EST up reply actions

I do still read the threads when I'm not on here myself

Yes, you are.

I find admitting the truth and addressing problems to be refreshing and invigorating. That’s why I like this site.

Posters on the cheerleader sites are dropping off like dead flies. Now, they are depressed becasue they are being forced to admit what they’ve denied for so long.

by PeachTreeNole on Nov 25, 2009 2:50 PM EST reply actions

im not depressed

because this site prepared me for the worst early on.

by B-rod24 on Nov 25, 2009 3:04 PM EST reply actions

I will be at the game. In the UF alumni section. In my Garnet and Gold. MyGF is a Gator aND it is her 21st bday.

Those of you who know me know that I am normally levelheaded except for those few hours 12 saturfays a year in which I act in a completely inappropriate fashion )nless I am in a box).

I have no idea how I am going to handle myself. I do think I have gotten better at only getting pssed when we play below my (in my opinion) realistic expectations.

Wildabeast, you made it this far. You are a true fan. Everyone lft is a true fan. Why would you jump ship wjen we are close to turning this thing around. The night is darkest before the dawn. Be able to tell everyone you were there for that night. Prepare yourself and don’t be shocked when we get our doors blown off. If we had those 4 offensive starters, I’d be pissed if we lost by 21+. Without them, you ant realistically get pissed.

Maybe Tebow will be temporarily blinded by the many tears filling his eyes and throw some picks.

There is always that any-given-day possibility. It is what it is. The teams won’t change until next season and there is nothing that any of us can do about it. FSU already had its senior day. Hopefully, we will give the underclassmen like G5 more PT. With a freshman at QB, this game is all about giving the younger guys some playing time and experience. Who knows, maybe the younger guys will get inspired and make a big play here and there. With the D what it is, that’s the best we can hope for is a big play or turnover here and there.

I’ll predict we beat the spread but lose the game 44-27, which is bad but would still be much closer than last year. The noles have managed to keep the games close all year regardless of how good or bad our opponent has been. But CP7 is out, so I look for the score in this one to get spread out a bit.

When I read the TN posts, it feels like people give UF too much credit. They are not as good as they’ve been the past couple years. This UF team has its weaknesses. They could lose 2 games this season.

If by some miracle FSU actually wins, it will be one of the most memorable victories in FSU history. Think how great it would be to give FU fans something to actually cry about. To end Tebow’s run with a win in the cow pasture . . . It would be like Buster Douglas beating Mike Tyson. Strange things do happen in sports. Not often on that magnitude, but they do.

A few short weeks ago, we were looking at an end coming to the bowl streak and a losing season. Then we went into WF and won. The following week, our D got a 4th quarter stop when we needed it, Mangum made a play, AND our freshman QB led a game winning TD drive in the last minute of the game after having thrown 3 picks and having let the ball floated in the air like it was a blimp all day long. That takes some heart. I don’t expect Fla. to keep our offense shut down all day long due to the Jimbo factor. He knows them well. PRob might have a game b/c he’ll know the scouts are watching. I’d tell him to blanket Skinner all day long and take away Tebow’s favorite target. Some of the kids we have on D do have ability. We just don’t have enough of them, the ones we do have don’t have the experience, and none of them have the coaching they need to play well. Our biggest problem is size in the DL, and there isn’t any way of getting around that. We can try ball control, but I don’t know how well that’s going to work with the 4 starters out.

As for the family, if they are going nuts like the Clemson fans storming the field, that’s just stupid and I’d tell them so. “You didn’t get this excited about the FIU game did you?” If they start having tears for Tebow, that’s stupid too. But its family, so what can you do? Acknowledge the nole’s short comings and explain that we are in the process of rebuilding. If we can keep it competitive, you could probably chide them about not being able to put away a team who struggled to beat 2-8 MD and J’ville State. Then talk about how Bama is going to put the hurtin’ on them the following week.

Thanks Bud. Yeah I will watch the game it just sucks.

It’s not the site that’s depressing it’s the football obviously. I think I wrote this post after the BBall game and was just freaking pissed. But yeah I’ll be watching from my Aunt’s and throwin stuff at the screen as usual.

just don’t expect me to like it!!!

I'll be there too Bud

My gf’s dad is a Gator and I bought him tickets to the game and it wound up that Im the one going with him. I am just looking for a decent showing and a friendly wager of FSU +27.

Well if it is bad as you expect

Then you also have to avoid any shows that talk about sports or show highlights. Avoid reading any sports related sites as well.

by nolestuff on Nov 26, 2009 1:08 AM EST reply actions

I will watch alone

Gator fans make it too hard for me not to pull for the Noles. Sure we will more than likely lose. However, I sense FSU is being taken too lightly, I don’t think uF will cover the spread. And who knows, if the defense gets some fire in their bellies and play like they don’t care stranger things have happened. FSU UF 94 tie game, or the Georgia Tech that Charlie Ward came back in, I believe 92. Didn’t ever see it but the FSU Alabama game in 67 when they again tied. I know it is hard to believe I am not drunk or under the influence of a controlled substance! Have a great Thanksgiving!

He had a good dream.

It’s the only dream you make have-to come out number-one man.

by 84Nole84 on Nov 26, 2009 2:00 AM EST up reply actions

that's the problem...

the D does play with fire and leaves it on the field…..they are poorly coached and i think no matter how hard they play (even if they could even play harder) it will not matter. They will not be in position to make the play and will be out schemed.

by Florida_State on Nov 26, 2009 12:59 PM EST up reply actions

Speaking of our D

Who’s stinking up the joint? When you look at each player, they seem ok (except for Mangum- who actually had a few nice plays in the maryland game). Is it Watson (always out of position on a qb rush) and McDaniel (young and small) who sucks so bad ?

by FSU PHD on Nov 26, 2009 1:27 PM EST up reply actions

I think...

by “nice plays” he means “plays that one would expect a slightly below average player to make 9/10 times”.

You know, the basic plays that he hasn’t been making to this point in the season. Hopefully, he hasn’t gotten it completely out of his system….

by PBD on Nov 26, 2009 2:38 PM EST up reply actions

I'll watch.

And I’ll cheer until it becomes hopeless. It’s still the ‘Noles. They could go 0-12, and I’d still watch and cheer every Saturday, especially for the Gator game.

Sure, we’re likely to get slaughtered. But you never know. Stranger things have happened. If nothing else, it’ll hopefully be fun to watch EJ develop.

by Drew J Jones on Nov 27, 2009 11:55 AM EST reply actions

...adding:

My father and I have been talking on the phone while watching the games all season. Having watched the Dolphins blow for a long time, we got accustomed to saying, “Well, at least it’s fun to just watch Marino.” We’ve been saying the same about Ponder all year, who will be a damned fine NFL QB if he can stay healthy (we’re quit fearful he’s going to wind up like Pennington, though). Now we’re watching EJ.
