Ugh
These are the times i hate being a fan if fsu football

Jesus
Watching this team beat themselves is amazing. If Chris Thompson doesn’t cough that ball up when they had momentum and they take it in for a score the score would have been 24-7 and most likely a dispirited Clemson team. I think Chris just cost himself some carries.

The Reed botched reverse didn't help
2009 Rays Baseball: Welp.....we'll try again in 2010

Why do they even call the reverse when you are up. Run the clock and protect the ball
by marlins44 on Nov 7, 2009 11:35 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I disagree
I liked the call…if it works, it goes for a big play. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. That D is good enough where you have to keep them on their toes.
by Miaminole on Nov 7, 2009 11:36 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Why take the chance when you are up.
I know it has worked for us this season, but when you have JT running well just hand it off
by marlins44 on Nov 7, 2009 11:39 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
If it worked, noone would have thought twice about the call...
just how it goes sometimes. I see what you are saying, but I still think you have to mix it up. When you play it safe, you enter what I like to call the Jeff Bowden zone
by Miaminole on Nov 7, 2009 11:41 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
The play call was really good....he had one guy to beat and the angle
It actually looked as though it was a bad pitch by CP.
That being said, it seemed as though bert was a little too close on the play…not sure who was running out of his lane. I think CP was pushed a little too far off the line which made the pitch closer than they practiced

CT is a true freshman
I know that is not really an excuse, but he is not used to the speed and noise of college ball fully yet.

Come on guy's, It was my hero and your's CP7 that cost us the game
by NoleBerry on Nov 7, 2009 11:29 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
And he’s entitled to have one or two bad games a season. Even Weinke had bad games, Tebow too.
I just hope that tackle he had didn’t hurt his shoulder.
by 38Noles on Nov 7, 2009 11:35 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
True. I think the awards stuff and the media appearances made him a little too overconfident.
One of the picks was attributable to Fortson stopping cold. The rest were on Ponder. NCSt could’ve had 4 picks to. He threw some dangerous passes. Another year with Jimbo will help him (and us).
by NoleLaw on Nov 7, 2009 11:35 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
You cannot blame Ponder
If anything you have to give him props for sucking it up and playing. He should have been resting up for next game, but now, because they ran him out there with hurt ribs, he got a hurt shoulder.
by nolestuff on Nov 8, 2009 12:29 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
he didnt cost us the game
he was one of many players that didnt help us win.
Perspective here is key I think. Look at how many points Clemson scored, that shouldnt have happened.
by Miaminole on Nov 7, 2009 11:37 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
all those ints were bad
but you cant blame it soley on cp7, puttin 24 on this clemson d, with a bum back is good enough, why not for once the defense bail him out, instead of the other way around, and hold clemson to a td or 2.

Our offense dominated the 3rd quarter
And we had the lead with 10 minutes left in the game. Hardly Ponder’s fault we lost
by RaysnNoles on Nov 9, 2009 6:17 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Christian played terrible tonight no 2 ways about it.
He was due for a bad game, unfortunately he picked the game where our d kept us in it for a while. I’m not off the CP bandwagon, this just shows he is human. Our d just caved at the end and allowed Clemson to run right through us.
by fsunole23 on Nov 7, 2009 11:35 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Not CP7's fault
If we had a competent defense he would not have to press so much. Combine that with some miscues from the underclassmen and we can’t capitalize on Clemson’s mistakes. If Clemson had executed well the game would have been over much earlier. We are a very young team. This is to be expected playing against a team with a bunch of upperclassmen.
by revival on Nov 7, 2009 11:40 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Plus...
He is hurt. and hardly practiced this week. I still think hes great…. but now we all know he is human. I was actually kinda nervous there for a few weeks…. Its bad enough the Noles are having a bad year, but robots with laser guided rocket arms from the future…. that’s scary stuff.

There is a reason why USC, uf, Texas, lsu, and bama are constantly on top.
It’s there recruiting classes are full of 5 and 4 stars, true that some pan out and others are overrated. But as a whole.., the stars matter. Only fsu and uga constantly recruit well and underachieve.

Inspired by Mickey?
Maybe, but I think the play calling changed the performance. We still missed a lot of tackles, so the coaching fundamentals are still lacking. It seemed like we blitzed more and ran more of the robber defense. Did we even have linemen in on 3rd & long?
If the D can continue playing this way and CP7 returns, we might even win when we visit the cow pasture.
by NoleLaw on Nov 7, 2009 11:42 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Mangum was involved in a lot of big plays and not in a positive way.
by Legal_Seminole on Nov 7, 2009 11:45 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
The defense played adequate for awhile, as good as their probably capable of, but if Clemson doesn’t shoot themselves in the foot so much they probably put up 47-50 points.
I’m proud of their effort though.
by 38Noles on Nov 7, 2009 11:47 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
The defense did not play well. The first quarter maybe, but after this it was the same. They got lucky on Clemson’s kicker sucking.
by lul on Nov 7, 2009 11:47 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Baby steps...
Comparatively speaking, they played well. Compared to their other games, it doesn’t take much to do that. They are lacking fundamentals, pass rushing DEs, etc. They also have some calls that put guys in mismatches like Smith on Spiller on pass plays. Without a change in personnel and without a change in coaches, tonight is about the best you will see the D play.
If they deliver tonight’s performance and Ponder shows up, we win. Tonight. Against Wake and Maryland. And yes, even the last game of the season when we visit the cow pasture.

by Miaminole on Nov 7, 2009 11:48 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I blame his coach.
We all know how bad he is but Mickey continues to trot that chump out on the field every week. I remember reading he wears a blue jersey in practice so that means he can’t hit.

This is obviously an overstatement,

I noticed as early as the 2nd Q
that Ponder was not stepping into his deep throws and using the big muscles in the back to launch the ball. That’s were his ribs were bruised/cracked last week.

The Big Picture
How many of you actually thought we would win? I, for one, did not. That doesn’t mean I didn’t want us to win. The mistakes made by us in this game (on both sides of the ball) show that will still have a long way to go. The quicker we can get there (i.e. making the necessary coaching changes) the better. If we miss a bowl game it is not the end of the world for me. I want the changes made ASAP and I would hope missing a bowl would just be the icing on the cake for this to happen, and hopefully, for Bowden not to return next year.

meh...
our D was making some plays in the first half, but most of that was due to terrible playcalling and execution on Clempson’s part. To give credit to us, our D got pressure on a few plays and actually seemed prepared on a few misdirections. But then Chucky got ahold of them and asked why they worried about “assignments” and “lanes.” The rest is history.
I’ll give you that Hopkins’ tackle was the highlight of the second half.

Mangum is the worst player I have ever seen
When there is a big play against the noles he always seems to have missed an easy tackle or coverage that led to the big play.. Remember the mistackle at the line of scimmage on the winning TD run by BC for instance.
I blame Mickey Andrews since he continues to play Mangum a senior yet over Harley a freshman. Harley could do no worse and will likely play better and at least gain experience for the future

It just seems so ironic
Not that the D played well, I know they did not, but it surprised me they got as many stops as they did. The ironic thing though is when our D does get stops, like when the team was up by three in the fourth quarter, or when they were trying to keep the team in striking distance during the USF game, that is the rare times the offense fails to sizzle.
I will say I was glad Fisher stayed in attack mode when the offense got the ball back though. Its hindsite now to say the reverse or pass plays were bad..they were good calls, just poorly executed.

It’s really amazing how we always do enough to lose or come close to losing. It’s actually been that way for a few years. Some facet of the game will play just bad enough to lose, but a surprising amount of time the other side of the ball will up their game so our hearts get broken.

Did any of y'all seriously expect to won the game?
Give up 7.9 per damn play and face an elite defense, yore gonna lose. hHealthy Ponder or not. 490 yards allowed on 64 plays to a slightly better than average offense.

I didn’t expect to win but with 10 minutes left I thought we would almost certainly be able to keep it respectable. Then we didn’t, and then Ponder got injured and the small bowl hopes went away.
Pretty rough final 10 minutes.

you're right
it was mathematically impossible for us to win. Average offense + great defense>Great offense+piss poor defense.

if Ponder had been healthy and there were less offensive turnovers
The team could have won. I know Clemson’s defense should get some credit, but the loss yardage on the reverse, the fumble by Thompson, some of the INTs were just mistakes that Clemson did not even have to force. With the team leading in the 4th, yes I thought they had a chance to win it.

Let us not forget
The missed tackle by Watson on the 3rd and long, the blown coverage by Kendall Smith, the jumping offside by Mister Alexander on a pick 6, Markus White jumping offiside when the damn TE was just getting the play, CP wasting a minute off the clock before halftime forcing us into a 60 yard FG.
Don’t forget those.

I dont think its a scheme issue with us I see missed tackles and players getting blown up….we have players on D that shouldnt be here and some that are supposed to be good are just average….

This is a bit off topic but I have to ask. It looked to me like some Clemson fans stormed the field after the game, why? lol

Clemson fans always storm the field after the game
Thats a tradition here. I was never one to run out there, but its our thing around here.
But there was plenty of excitement amongst us to beat our old nemesis at NIGHT on national TV. I realize its a 4-4 team but every win is a big win when you havent won the ACC in 20 frickin years.

Wait
Not knocking you, but asking a serious question…every game? Like if Army showed up, you would run onto the field? Is there any standard at all?
by Miaminole on Nov 8, 2009 10:33 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Yes.
How many times does every single person on the planet have to ask this question before someone starts to figure it out? Seriously, every damn time we’re on TV, someone brings it up. Every game. In conference, out of conference, FBS, FCS, night game, spring game, you name it. Every game.
The only blip in the whole thing was when some asshole accosted Tom O’Brien after a game with NC State a few years ago. They’ve tried to keep people off for at least a few minutes first, but that doesn’t really work.

Hey now fella.
Since the tone of your response wasnt super polite, Im not gonna beat around the bush. I dont care enough about your team to have memorized or looked up how often it rushes the field. Since I saw it THIS time, and had my curiosity piqued, I asked. Maybe if they didnt look like a bunch of idiots, people wouldnt ask every time.

I can respect that to some degree since we do the same thing in basketball

I can't help but think
the ending would have been so different had the Reed reverse not been a botch. The Climpson defense was on the ropes bitching at each other and very flustered. We score there and I think that defense would have folded.
