Around SBN: Off Tackle Empire interviews Rich Rodriguez

FSU WR Coach Lawrence Dawsey is also there. Tampa Catholic (Green's team) is playing Bolles out of Jacksonville.

Though I don't like putting a timetable on things like this, I expect Green to be a 'Nole in the next couple of weeks. UGA seems to be the main threat here.

Then I guess it stands to be asked...

We want this guy as a wideout, eh? But how good is he at throwing the ball? Could he back us up after Ponder leaves and in the hypothetical that EJ gets injured?

with the talent coming in

i think jimbo has all the right reasons to use the wildcat several times a game. reed, LJ, green if he comes, not to mention all the speedy guys we already have. will be exciting.

I dont want to see reed running up the middle

Hes a hell of a receiver but i dont think his frame will take that kind of pounding. Green however………

This article's title is almost creepy

TN is almost too good at knowing everything that is happening in the Tomahawk Nation. Tomorrow, I expect an article entitled “A car registered in Trickett’s name was seen driving 5 miles from the Lattimore house.”

I don't know how much he really knows Elam

But he recruited his brother when CUM was an assistant at ND and probably met his family during visits, etc. I doubt their past relationship goes any further than that.

by nappygoat on Dec 13, 2009 3:44 PM EST up reply actions

Urban recruited his brother Abram when Matt was like 9 (or something).

Meyer taught him a WR stance and that apparently has stuck with Matt throughout all the years.

They have an extremely close relationship.

Am I crazy, or is it a violation to let recruits wear jerseys with their number on visits?

Part of the whole “simulating game experience” domain, if I’m not mistaken.

by arrdub on Dec 13, 2009 5:20 PM EST up reply actions

You're crazy.

They’re not allowed to put their name on the scoreboard and have them run out of the “tunnel” or the equivalent. I see your point, though. It has similarities to game experience. Not sure why exactly that’s allowed.

by tricknole on Dec 13, 2009 7:39 PM EST up reply actions

I thought I specifically remembered the "jersey" being involved.

Might have to be jersey, plus running out of tunnel, fans, etc., all as part of a simulated game experience. But jersey by itself = OK.

by arrdub on Dec 13, 2009 8:55 PM EST up reply actions

Those are probably from Seminole Showtime.

At least I think that’s where you see a lot of that, and that is different than an official visit…. but I’ve convinced myself that the broader context theory makes sense.

by arrdub on Dec 13, 2009 9:36 PM EST up reply actions

Not from Showtime.

Glades Central is 2A

and they produce college prospects. Is it much of a talent drop off per classification in Florida? I ask because of the kelvin Taylor thing going on the internet and someone claiming Andre Debose played “terrible” competition last year, despite being at a big (6A) school

by westcoastnolefan on Dec 12, 2009 9:45 PM EST up reply actions

Andre Dubose

Yeah, really terrible competition. Beat Miami Northwestern to win the 6A State Championship. You don’t get to the finals and win by accident. Sudden death in the playoffs. It may make sense that the team that gets hot at the end of the season stays alive. His teammate Ray Ray Armstrong was bigtime in his limited play for Miami.

by nole34 on Dec 12, 2009 10:08 PM EST up reply actions

Classification

School classification has to do with the size of the school. 6A is the largest classification. I wouldn’t say talent is correlated with the school size but the smaller schools are usually prep schools.

by Scoot3rs on Dec 12, 2009 10:24 PM EST up reply actions

Okay, cool

Because there’s the rumors floating around about Taylor transferring to STA (I don’t like private schools hoarding talent. Thats how De La Salle won 151 games in a row!). And I just wondering if it made any since for the kid to do so since everyone already knows who he is. Or maybe comp level would be why he’d do it. If he’s being sufficently challenged at Glades Day, he should stay. As opposed to making an already highly acclaimed program even more succesful

by westcoastnolefan on Dec 12, 2009 10:37 PM EST up reply actions

I live in Jacksonville and went to a public school (Mandarin 6A). The talent is spread out over all the area high schools except private schools like Bolles literally recruit kids and thats why they run the tables.

Im from J-ville too...

And I know for a fact that when Tebow attended Nease (as a homeschooler) that they had alot of transfers to them because they recruited like muthatruckas and even almost got in trouble for it from the FHSAA. I think that this goes on at a lot of premier high school programs.

ya my HS ran into that crap too in basketball

wed always run the table, get to the final four and the other 3 teams would all be private schools that recuited, not to say that we lost to them every time, but they def had an advantage, theyd have guys on their starting 5 that couldnt speak english

De La Salle

is the only private school in that part of the Bay Area. So they could horde talent from almost as far south as Oakland (Where MoJo Drew was born) all the way Sacramento (Where DJ Williams is from). So basically it was like combining four Private schools teams into one and picking out the best players. Seems like S.T. Aquinnas has liberty to cherrypick all the best Dade and Broward County talent, and will add a muck area kid if suits their interests

Was it Admiral Farragut?

Because they were in our district and they did that shit all the time and made it to the finals every year and constantly had kids on their team that all they new was “help help” and “ball ball”

by Trus1te on Dec 13, 2009 12:23 AM EST up reply actions

No, but it seems regardless of State, area, city, or district

private schools can do whatever they want and win championships despite not having used any homegrown talent. I think the era of athletically motivated transfers has hurt HS sports nationwide. It seems extremely hollow because you don’t really have a team of kids who grew up in the same neighborhood playing w/each other. Now, you just have a bunch of teenage hired guns. To me thats sad.

by westcoastnolefan on Dec 13, 2009 12:33 AM EST up reply actions

Thats the excuse private schools give. “We’ll let you come to our school and you won’t even have to pay tuition as long as you try out for the football team.”

There are private schools

that colleges won’t even accept transcripts from because they know the grades have been doctored. A kid here from a very bad neighbohood went to a private school. They allowed him to play even though he only carried a 1.8 GPA. He lead that school to three straight section (CIF) championship games(Winning two). But wait, he could never get qualified to play D1 ball. Even though he broke Reggie Bush’s city record for yards per carry. Private school did wonders for em, huh?

I wasn't all that interested in this game

However, i’ll dance a jig if they win. It will be “super sweet”.

Non BCS Bowls

They don’t understand that non BCS bowls are all about the same and its all based on money and politics.

6-6 Team

It’s like they are mad they are playing a not so good team. Besides, you can’t argue with the fact that the tickets sold out after 2 hours and the this game will probably have the best ratings for the games in this time slot.

wouldnt you want to play an easy team to ensure a bowl win?

i mean its not one of the major BCS bowls, so who cares? a win is a win

Couldn't agree more

I hope we win just so everyone will shut up.

Some people complain just for the sake of complaining

Ask them who Major Harris is, and they’ll think he’s an Army Colonel or somethin. Or Quincy Wilson? Do they even know Pacman Jones and Chris Henry ( Cincy) attended that damn school? Now wonder they are sayin BS like that. It’s hard to have a sense of CFB history (Which is what this particular bowl is paying homage to) when you’re school doesn’t have any

Next Year

I’m so excited about next year. I wish our new staff would take over now.

I imagine he is

I mean he loved us before, and then came to tally for the weekend, and the guy who was recruiting him at AU is now his DC
