I am sure Bobby will not be there

I think Bobby is still ticked that this has all happened to him. If only Bobby could ‘Man-up’ and do the right thing.

Go Noles!!

Do you think

BB & CTC would be spiteful enough to sabotage the team on the way out (in the bowl) or is BB’s ego enough to make this thing happen?

by Scalpemall on Dec 14, 2009 12:12 PM EST up reply actions

Jimbo

I am the oc if we lose BB and Mickey’s defense are tagged with another loss.

" Fisher’s approach to building a winner is lifted from Saban’s playbook. Right down to the terminology such as becoming more "process oriented" as opposed to "results oriented."

" Nick and I are friends," he said. "That guy is one of the best football coaches I’ve ever been around. God knows he’s brilliant. … A lot of the things he believes are a lot of things I believe. We’re very similar!

The process begins!

The current assistants are under contract and are expected to coach through the bowl game, but will their job search end up affecting player performance?

“As far as I know, they’ll be there for the bowl. I sure hope they do, to try and keep some consistency in our practices and things,” Bowden said. “You hate to see any coaches go that you know. Just like I told my sons Terry, Tommy and Jeffrey — who have all been fired — this is the nature of the job. It’s the nature of the game, hiring and firing, replacing and losing and so and so.”

Some dense are practicing

Just drove by football practice field and saw MA and CTC coach a number of players there.

by tomnole97 on Dec 14, 2009 1:09 PM EST up reply actions

All things considered

Bobby is handling it about as well as we could hope for. It was clear he wanted to, and expected to, coach another year. No matter how it was sugar coated Bobby was let go and that has to hurt his pride. So it is better for Bowden to stay in the background instead of making a scene, which would probably rally several members of the press against us.

by osceolafan850 on Dec 14, 2009 11:54 AM EST up reply actions

His comments have really been more sad than anything else...

I’m also amazed that Ann hasn’t opened her mouth either, I really wonder if Bowden was given a little more money than the $1million dollars he was owed to walk away, with a little win-wink to play nice with the press.

by karmanole on Dec 14, 2009 12:54 PM EST up reply actions

What kind of pressure do you think Jimbo is under to make sure

that Bobby doesn’t go out with a losing season?

Another point: There is no guarantee that Bobby would have wanted to go out easily next year either. I’m sure that he would have responded in a similar fashion.

by jasonole59 on Dec 14, 2009 12:20 PM EST reply actions

No more pressure than normal

if anything, if FSU loses, and fisher keeps recruiting like he has been, he can lay more blame on Bowden.

Sorry, but

if this is the press conference to introduce Jimbo Fisher as HC, this is as much of a trainwreck as the whole Bowden retirement situation. I turned this on at 1:59, and Jimbo was already talking. Did the AD introduce him? Was there an opening statement? Can’t say I’m surprised…

This just seems like the normal weekly press conference he would do after games each week on Mondays…

Oh, and can we buy a microphone for FSU to place in the back where the reporters are so that we can actually hear the questions being asked?

Hopefully when Jimbo is "officially" announced it will be a day worthy of the moment.

By that I mean Bobby enthusiastically congratulating him and giving him heartfelt support. It should be one of the greatest days in his life. Hopefully the Admin is up to making it so.

by Egret on Dec 14, 2009 1:27 PM EST reply actions

Doubt he would be there either, I think they hold off on an official announcement until after the bowl

It’s obviously not hurting recruiting so who really cares, recruits know who the main players are going to be already.

I think they’re holding off out of respect for BB IMO; Also like JF said, he is not the head coach yet, BB is until after the bowl game, so no reason to announce him yet anyways.

Figure the first week of January we got press conferences for him, Stoops, and maybe Coley as new OC, should be an exciting week!!

His comments on Stoops position coaching may help us figure out what other coaching spots we are looking for.

He said Stoops like to coach all 4 secondary spots.

So we potentially have room for a DE coach. I didn’t think Odell was ready to coach the entire DL anyway.

Or potentially an ILB coach and a OLB/DE coach with the goal of being more "multiple."

Meh.

One thing I’ll say for Bobby: Both intentionally and unintentionally, he was pretty funny. Too many Bowdenisms to choose from.

Fisherisms seem to be in short supply so far. It’s sort of like watching that guy on SNL who does that awful Obama impression.

Is very limited in Bobbyisms too. Work is number one, the press is someone he’s forced to deal with. Not vice versa like BB. Which one is more important?

He’s apparently quite different behind close doors. He’s actually supposed to be nice to talk to. However, the press will ask the same questions week after week and are trying to uncover something to write about. I wouldn’t want to speak to them either.

DC/DB coach
LB coach
DE coach
and DL coach

Not that that means it stays that way.

QB: Fisher
TE: Coley
RB: Gran
WR: Dawsey
OL: Trickett

DT: Haggins
DE: ?
LB: ?
CB: Stoops

So, do we add a D coach? or bring in a 6th O coach like Craig to understudy Fisher for QBs?

by coonhound on Dec 14, 2009 2:02 PM EST up reply actions

I would prefer Fisher not be a play caller, position coach, and head coach.

Let Craig help out. If he chooses to go it alone, we could hire a strictly ST coach. Stoops is also the DB coach, not just CB.

by tricknole on Dec 14, 2009 5:01 PM EST up reply actions

Oops- mistyped CB for DB.

I agree with your first point, that’s why I wonder if Craig will be brought in to be an Assistant QB Coach… Do we have a Grad Assistant spot open? I know some teams carry more than FSU has traditionally. Is that a matter of funds?

by coonhound on Dec 14, 2009 5:04 PM EST up reply actions

I think Craig might come on as a ST coach in title but help out where ever he is needed

What about the idea of bring on a OLB/DE coach and a ILB coach? Might make sense if we want to be able to run in and out of a 3-4.

Trickett

I always thought is was amazing he produced the lines he did at WVU. Like he said if you take five guys from West Virginia you have probably taken 3 too many.
Frey can’t have access to the greatest recruits in the world at WVU although I realize they got Josh Jenkins after hiring his brother on the staff.

But the Mounties already want to kick him to the curb.

Don’t know if I like the idea of grabbing a Mountie reject.
The Mounties seem to feel that Trickett had problems with their former HC or OC or both. They are thinking that Trickett might come back now that those guys are gone.

by NoleLaw on Dec 14, 2009 2:36 PM EST up reply actions

Money was a problem

Trickett was making $187,000 at WVU and FSU gave him over $300,000.
I do remember he made a remark when he left saying "I will not be taken for granted. "

I don’t see Trickett going back there unless it is to be head coach.

One way or the other

Trickett will make the decision and Trickett will answer the questions for himself. Translation: Trickett wears big boy pants; if you want to know about him, ask him.

I hope you are right

Fisher does a great press interview

I am really not used to this. All I can say is Bobby don’t go away mad just go away!

To be fair

Bobby used to own press conferences; and he did it in a way that no other coach could aspire to match. Nowadays, yes, it was a mess. I choose to remember how things were, now that they are no longer the way things will be.

Doc, you've never seen Fisher do an extended interview?

I LOVE listening to this guy. He’s smart, he doesn’t get sucked into baited questions, he doesn’t give a ton of coachspeak, he’s entertaining.

All around a great speaker. Can you see why recruits like him so much? He probably just regurgitates football knowledge while Coley sits there are attempts to use his Jedi powers to telepathically communicate with them.

if trickett goes art kehoe would be a damn good hire miami was dumb for letting him leave

by Fredric on Dec 14, 2009 2:37 PM EST reply actions

I know many in Miami felt that way

Kehoe wasn’t to blame for all of their problems. I believe I read he and Shannon were not tight. I am not sure on that one however. I do remember Miami running the ball pretty well on us when Kehoe was around.

One other comment stood out

Fisher saying something like you just can’t give a guy the ball and tell him to go out and do it.

It reminds me of our defense being told to go out and make some plays. Discipline I believe is all about why Stoops is coming here.

There will be some fundamental differences in the way things were and the way they wil be.

Love Mickey to death, but you can’t win just by saddling up unless you have better horses. Unfortunately we didn’t have the better horses these past few years…

"We are 1 player away"

Jimbo touched on a great topic saying today’s game of football is too complex to rely on talent alone….And I am so glad we will not be hearing that dumb and out of touch thinking bobby had " We are 1 player away"

I haven't heard anyone mention this lately...

Doesn’t it help not having Fisher name as HC because of recruiting rules? An assistant is allowed to make more contacts than the HC.

Suggesting that we should keep Bowden on until after NSD?

Good plan!!! Let’s start the keep Bobby Bowden campaign. After all, he can’t do much damage except collect a paycheck between the bowl and NSD.

by NoleLaw on Dec 14, 2009 3:46 PM EST up reply actions

No need

Jimbo will get all he needs to get done until the Bowl Game than Coley can close the rest.

I thought there was a silent period

between the 18th and Jan. 4th or something. He can’t really do much until after the bowl game.

by NoleLaw on Dec 14, 2009 4:11 PM EST up reply actions

after the 10th, he can only go on the road 1 time a week. should have a full staff by then though.

Love how....

he plans to have staff solid by Bowl Game.
