Uh, I'm a Jimbo fan... but $1.85 mil for an unproven, first time head coach?
I was thinking it would be in the range of 1.3-1.5
They're paying Mike London, that DIAA coach from Richmond $1.7M/year for 5 years.
A whopping 2 years of head coaching experience, both at Richmond.
Agreed, we had to meet that bar
I thought UVA would’ve signed London to about 900K-1.1M, and we would’ve got Jimbo in the 1.4-1.5 range.

Personally I don't care about the amount. Another chapter closed and the new era is finally starting. That's all I care about.

That's one way to look at it.
I just wanted to be the first one to bitch about something in the Jimbo era… :)
i agree
we are a big time program and have to pay like it. 1.8 is not bad considering what some other coaches make. whatever. hopefully he’ll earn a raise.
While other coaches are sleeping Coach Coley is stalking HS football players on their FB and twitter accounts and reading their old book reports.
i'm all for it
can’t be cheap with coaches or they leave on ya. Learning coaching is the most important factor in college foots
espn also said he gets about 500K for an ACC title game, 500k for winning it, 500k for a BCS title game, and another 500k for winning it

nevermind, im retarded, go about your buisness, nothing to see here
"Don't flinch, let's kill a fly with an Axe."
i was excited about the news and obviously confused lol
ive never been good with numbers anyway

I love how these contracts are written.
One could conceivably earn their keep by being a fantastic media guy. Does anyone doubt that JImbo would be paid in full if he won the national championship next year but never appeared at a single booster meeting?
Now, imagine if he went to ALL of the media engagements but didn’t win a game.
List of incentives
The full list of incentives is over at the Chopping Block. If Jimbo were to lead the team on a undefeated championship season he would net 600k in incentives. Here is the list for those who don’t want to check.
INCENTIVES:
-$50,000 bonus for winning the ACC’s Atlantic Division.
-$50,000 bonus for winning the ACC championship.
-$125,000 bonus for appearing in the bowl game designated the national championship game.
-$125,000 bonus for winning the bowl game designated the national championship game.
-$50,000 bonus for playing in a BCS bowl game that’s not the national championship game.
-$30,000 bonus for playing in a non-BCS bowl game.
-$100,000 bonus for finishing in the top 5 of the AP poll.
-$50,000 bonus for finishing in the top 10 of the AP poll.
-$100,000 bonus for finishing undefeated.
-$50,000 bonus for being named National Coach of the Year.
-$25,000 bonus for being named ACC Coach of the Year.
-$25,000 bonus for the football team achieving a 75 percent graduation success rate. The bonus will be calculated annually at the end of the summer semester.
-$25,000 bonus for the football team achieving a .925 Academic Performance Rating (APR). The bonus will be calculated annually at the end of the summer semester.
If Jimbo's smart he'll try to lose as much as possible.
What kind of incentive is negative $625K for having an undefeated, national championship season where he’s named coach of the year?
Yea, just kind of odd looking.
As for the APR, we are at 954 combined for 2003-2007. The average for DIA is 931. Why would we have our APR incentive below the national average? I definitely agree with rewarding graduating players and all that, but, I don’t think this is anything special. Or am I missing something?
It's an easy way to pad his salary
or the administration is plain dumb…

Those incentives are motivating
Fisher’s doing a great job with hiring his new assistants and it shouldn’t be long before he gets those bonus’
so whats the maximum he could make in bonuses? like $675K in one amazing season?
"Don't flinch, let's kill a fly with an Axe."
$10K for using the phrase "ole #?? had a great game, he had a great game."
>-----:----:------>Spear 'em then Scalp 'em
$5k for mentioning on the Bobby Bowden show, "his parents were there at the game, they were there."
>-----:----:------>Spear 'em then Scalp 'em
$2K for every "if we can stop them from scoring, we might have a chance, we might have a chance."
>-----:----:------>Spear 'em then Scalp 'em
$1K for every "those dabgum penalties (or fumbles) are what's hurting us, that what's hurting us."
>-----:----:------>Spear 'em then Scalp 'em
Finally
Jimbo gets paid. Well deserved in my opinion. If he happens to lead us to an undefeated season, ACC championship, National title, and number 1 in the polls in any year of his contract I would gladly send him some of my own cash.
Striker: "Surely you can't be serious!" Rumack: "I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
hmmm not good enough
If i were Jimbo, id for a statue.
i'd ask* for a statue
aaaaaaaaaaaaaand there goes my joke.
I'm glad Jimbo got this contract.
He has waited patiently for Bobby to retire, and now he will get his chance to turn things around here.
Kindof funny to me
but at the same time it’s neither here nor there is that:
Mickey actually outlasts Bowden as an official FSU employee.

Buyout clause
If Fisher leaves for another job within the first three years, the university would be owed "three times the gross annual base salary." If he leaves in the last two years of the current contract, the university would be owed two times his base salary.
So that’s $5.4M if he leaves within 3 years or $3.6M if he leaves prior to year 4 or 5. Recouping losses, I guess. Well, not even, since we wouldn’t have paid him anything for those seasons anyways.
I don’t see Fisher leaving and I HOPE he turns this thing around. Please, please, please.
It's $675,000 for the frist 3 years, $450,000 for the last two...
Read that again. It is figured off his BASE salary, which is listed as $225,000. This is actually the scariest part of the contract to me. That buyout clause is a drop in the bucket to damn near any D-1 program, much less a powerhouse.
However, that being said, I think the folks involved are pretty comfortable he’s not going anywhere, and if he was due to success we would pony up some more bucks to keep him.
FSU is a destination job
Nobody would leave FSU to coach at another school unless it was their “dream job” or maybe they were an alum. In terms of prestige, recruiting and chance to win a NC there really aren’t any better jobs than FSU just other programs in the same tier.

Agree totally, that was the point of my second paragraph...
The intent of such a low buyout would be the confidence that he is not going anywhere – not just because of the Program’s Tier, but because he has the chance to re-build this thing in the image, style, and structure that he wants.
However, my point in the first paragraph was that in today’s world of major D-1 Football, there are assistants who annually make more than $675,000 – and that is our HC’s BUYOUT clause.
I've also been saying on here for a week or two that I think this is Jimbo's destination job.
I don’t foresee him going anywhere for awhile, assuming he wins.
I'm not sure. Gross vs. base. I would think gross includes all the supplemental dollars, or $1.85M per year.

Rework
FSU like probably almost every other BCS school would probably rewrite the terms of the contracts they have with coaches. I wouldn’t be surprised if part of the contract provides for such a situation.
Not an alcoholic, just an FSU grad.

Yea, Jimbo should hope they restructure it in that case.
Since according to AC he gets negative money for making BCS games, among other things.
Coaches don't leave Florida State
You have to run them off! LOL
I am breathing a big sigh of relief myself. Now we can get down to some revenge on the gators.
It is kind of a money crunch these days. Texas is questioning whether or not Brown is worth five million dollars a year. Looked at in that perspective, Fisher is working pretty cheap. I believe Kiffin started at 1.5 million at Tennessee so he could throw bigger paychecks at his assistants. I think maybe Jimbo has the same idea.
Well maybe Kiffin is throwing some big money at the hostesses also. Just kidding, just kidding.
" Fisher’s approach to building a winner is lifted from Saban’s playbook. Right down to the terminology such as becoming more "process oriented" as opposed to "results oriented."
" Nick and I are friends," he said. "That guy is one of the best football coaches I’ve ever been around. God knows he’s brilliant. … A lot of the things he believes are a lot of things I believe. We’re very similar!
The process begins!
Only teachers complaining
Some of the academic faculty is complaining about Brown’s raise, but nobody else has a problem with it. UT’s athletic department makes so much much that the University is paying his salary out of the profits made by sports anyway so the faculty doesn’t have a leg to stand on.

Apparently he didn't pay his assistants that well.
We upped Gran’s salary like 40% (for the same position) and I’m sure the coach they lost to LSU received a payraise, too.
i dont like the dates..
why was it not effective jan. 10 instead of the 5th. The way his contract is now, he will be allowed to pull a Kelly and depart before a possible BCS/NC game in 2015, if we did happen to be in one at that time.
That part doesn't matter
If we were such a good team that we were in the NC hunt in 2015 Jimbo would already have a contract extension signed and sealed so the dates of this contract wouldn’t matter. And unlike Cincy, FSU is a destination job in college so the only place that would be able to hire Jimbo away would be the NFL. With the NFL he would be allowed to finish out the season.

If FSU is playing in the BCS title game
Who would be able to lure Jimbo away? Serious question. Does Jimbo have some dream job that would be more appealing than FSU? Besides that, if the program has progressed like that, don’t you think he would have renegotiated before that point?
Jimbo understands the "Process" boys!
I think he is an up and coming big name in coaching myself. He is stated himself he can accomplish everything he wants to at FSU. It does at least appear to be his dream destination job. I don’t see him being lured away anywhere even with a lot of success. This is good for the stability of the program.
He is proving he can bring in big name assistants, Stoops, Trickett, Coley, Gran. The guy is recruiting well and has a top rated offense ready to go for next year. I don’t see much to gripe about.
The man is Saban trained! LOL That spells more tears for gator quarterbacks down the road.

Jimbo grew up a Nole fan
He’s not going anywhere
"We'll win games with talent, but we'll win championships with character and intelligence."
Could anyone see him taking a job in the league?
I hope not, but if he does extremely well and feels like college isn’t challenging enough. Any thoughts?
Who knows. That's a ways down the road, though.
If he wants to make the jump in a decade or so, good for him. But seeing at how rarely college guys have success in the NFL (like Saban) and how many NFL retreads drop down to college, you would think the odds are pretty high he won’t go to the NFL. If an NFL front office thinks highly enough of him to pay him to be their coach, FSU would be in a good enough position to be able to make another high end hire.
i really doubt it
i think he may look at what happened to Saban at Miami. He knows Saban is a defensive genius, yet couldnt make it in the league. I think he tries to make a legacy for himself.
my friend had a conspiracy theory that he would leave to coach the Raiders and reunite with jamarcus russell
"Don't flinch, let's kill a fly with an Axe."
HAHA
and Urban Meyer can’t wait to get that call from San Fran to reunite with Alex Smith
It's a beautiful day in Tallahassee
