An interview with James Coley, Florida State tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator extraordinaire

Excellent job by AC recapping a recent interview after practice. Well worth reading what Coley has to say on the Chopping Block. Also, this is a link to a great article that gives a more in-depth view of Coley and his interactions with players, which was published in the Sun Sentinel. Off-beat Coley uses old-school work ethic to build a following on and off the recruiting trail at Florida State Here are a couple of my favorites quotes from the Chopping Block blog. -have you noticed a drop-off in negative recruiting given that the head coaching situation is firm? "Now they’re holding on to their butts." -and- -who taught you how to recruit? "I was Jimbo’s G.A. [at LSU] so I learned a lot through Jimbo and the guys I worked with in the past. Coach Saban … but yeah, Jimbo’s always been my mentor, a guy I always worked with and kind of taught me the ropes." -and- -because of the reduced numbers on staff, how much more is on your plate? "A lot. A lot. But it’s on my plate and everyone else’s who’s recruiting. It ain’t just me. And I guess you hear more about it through me because there’s Twitter and stuff like that. But all the guys that are here, your Lawrence Dawseys, your Rick Tricketts – I mean, they’re humping it, man. Rick’s going from his Central Florida location through Alabama, into Mississippi. Dell’s busting his hump, trying to get into New Orleans, and on top of that getting into Jacksonville and then Dawsey is really working the west coast – the west side of Florida through Pahokee and Bell Glade. He’s really manned it up. And coach Fisher is everywhere. He’s bouncing around everywhere. So it’s not just me. These guys – and I tell what – these guys man it up even harder than I do. It’s great to work with these guys because they’re competitors, man. They’re survivors. They’re champs. When they walk into living rooms, those players know that these men are the top at what they do …" If this doesn't get you excited and looking forward to when we have 10 coaches actually working, you should check your pulse. Much more great stuff. Click here to read more great Coley quotes from AC's Chopping Block.
