Florida State and Oklahoma sign up for Pacific institue classes used by Alabama

"Antowaine Richardson, a Pacific Institute instructor, said the company started working with Florida State this season thanks to Saban's relationship with head-coach-in-waiting Jimbo Fisher. Oklahoma will begin working with the Pacific Institute after this season. "

Alabama used this in Sabans 7-6 year starting the process of changing the mental aspect of his players. FSU started using ths this past season at the urging of Fisher. Seems like Fisher started to use this year as if it was his first year as "head coach" to help cut down on implementing his concepts and ideas when he offically became the Head Coach.

Makes sense

Looking at the players attitudes from last year to this, you can tell a big difference. Alot of the “trouble makers” have changed their mindsets and understand bigger picture, the picture of life. What a way to help young kids mature and become responsible adults.

Please explain

Please explain your statment?

Sorry about that.

Apparently, as a reaction to the OTL show and the never ending NCAA probe into the music class, I overstated a knee-jerk reaction to the juxtaposition of mental and Florida State football. It wasn’t meant to be taken literally.

it's all good!

Sometimes the rest of us need to take a step back and realize when someone is joking(mainly myself!) Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you also.

Sometimes, words are only in your head. Then before you know it, they manage to find a way to sneak out.

Nobody said

this was for credit, and I doubt it is in any form for credit.

Thus, TLA, that’s nonsense that it comes back to haunt FSU.

exactly

This is pretty much bringing in sports psycs to work with the team and coaches

What you're saying

makes no sense without explanation and even with it I struggle to see how you could justify your position

Relax

I’m shocked that so many readers of TN who as a whole seem enlightened balk at jokes.

already did

if you read up a few I already noticed it was a joke and stated that maybe I should realize that! ;-)

Jimbo is the man.

What a great idea. People are clueless is they don’t see as the right man for the job.

by Nolebra Kai on Dec 24, 2009 3:51 PM EST via mobile reply actions

And the transformation begins.

I look forward to FSU being the Alabama of Florida, minus the cheating of course. :)

WHY ALABAMA.

WHY NOT THE NOLES OF THE 90’S?

by SUPER_NOLED on Dec 24, 2009 4:10 PM EST up reply actions

Wouldnt that be great?!!

But yeah, lets be realistic. There will never be another 90’s ‘Noles. Or even an 80’s Miami. Though I hate crediting teh U, but they did win 5 NCs and they ran the table in the 80’s. What happened in those 20 years was a freak of the sports nature. USC Trojans only lasted 7 years (half of what FSU did) and the Gator chumps cant even make it past 2 years without a season under 10 wins and out of the top 10 (much less top 5).

Which also tells us that we will never again in todays college football, see coaches with legendary accomplishments like Bowden, Paterno and “Bear” Bryant ever again either. So me personally, I’m taking Bowdens last game to heart. Its turning from a frustrating pain..to pleasant memories of an era in college football that will never be seen again. At least for our generation. The future is bright, but our history is rich. Go ’Noles.

Because FSU is going to need to use talent and schematic advantages

not just have more talent than everyone by a country mile due to other programs being on probation/ spinning their wheels.

Merry Christmas to all you crazies, you are as addicted to football as I am!

The process continues!

" Fisher’s approach to building a winner is lifted from Saban’s playbook. Right down to the terminology such as becoming more "process oriented" as opposed to "results oriented."

" Nick and I are friends," he said. "That guy is one of the best football coaches I’ve ever been around. God knows he’s brilliant. … A lot of the things he believes are a lot of things I believe. We’re very similar!

The process begins!

Jimbo & Company

Don’t know if I found a lamp in the sand and a genie popped out and granted me one wish for FSU football if it would have been possible for my wish to be granted more thoroughly. Think about these last couple of weeks: Luc, Joyner, Gran, Stoops, Hudson, Craig, 2011 recruits, this thing isn’t finished yet either. If Genron is to be believed (which thus far his track record is spot on) we are lining up a top five class or better. From here we continue to focus on 2011 recruiting to fill in the depth holes. We now have optimal recruiters, position coaches, even Todd McShay is saying NC in 2011. The force is with us!!!!

by nole34 on Dec 24, 2009 7:16 PM EST reply actions

Thats..

well beyond Jimbo’s control and powers. He just needs to stay out of it. Im sure our new University President when hes taken the position, will handle this in a much more civil manner then TK has. Which in turn will resolve this matter faster and less painfully.

I went through two weeks of this training several years ago....

I was a practicing graduate and believer. After all was said and done I was not impressed. What it amounts to is visualizations of positive thoughts.

by Class of '71 on Dec 24, 2009 11:39 PM EST reply actions

But...

What kind of an impact would it have had on you at age 19?

by Sabon on Dec 25, 2009 1:08 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

Well if FSU is going to run this like a business maybe they should use the Six Sigma approach

or maybe Kaizen. I am with Class of ’71. I have seen the results of many “mental motivation” programs in the Sales field. When all is said and done a person is going to succeed if they have the ability and natural or willing motivation to do so and NO program is going to turn slackers, malcontents, unskilled players into football ninjas. It may however help identify those players ripe for termina….er…removal from the program. But companies like Pacific Institute can make TONS of money by using their TRUE skill which is making statisics say what they want to prove their worth. IMHO.

by Egret on Dec 25, 2009 8:49 AM EST up reply actions

All I can say is

Alabama went from awful before Saban to the NC game this year. Our new coach is a Saban disciple and if this program helped Alabama any little bit along the way, I am happy we are following in their footsteps. As I truly believe we have more talent at FSU to work with then what Saban had at Bama when he took over.

by BS37FSU on Dec 29, 2009 3:08 PM EST up reply actions

Interesting Note

I remember reading a psychology study on the mental aspects of practicing. It consisted of 4 groups of BBall players. One group practiced shooting free throws both mentally and physically, one did just mentally, no physical practice, another did just the physical practice, and the last group did nothing. Needless to say, the 1st group performed the best, but interestingly, the 2nd group and the 3rd group performed very similarly. The mental game is half the battle and I’m glad JF is keyed in on this. I’d reference the study if I could find it. Here is another similar study: http://www.springerlink.com/content/j125121812215rr1/
