al.com thinks Kirby Smart will go to Georgia, and what if Bama wins the NC? Bama fans seem to think there is no way in hell he will leave. http://blog.al.com/tide-source/2009/12/get_smart_does_georgia_want_al.html If Bama does win the NC would Kirby Smart Consider a Head Coaching position if offered over a DC? If he goes to Georgia and has success as a DC
It means that he keeps Richt in power
I don’t see that as being a good move for Smart

THats point, if he wants to be the UGA headcoach at some point in his career
The best place for him to be is NOT at UGA

Can make the argument about him going to FSU
He goes to GA, greatly improves the defense with his name (not saban) on it, moves on to another school after a few years as an HC. Same thing he would have a chance to do at FSU.
Not an alcoholic, just an FSU grad.

Yeah, but some of the comments seem to suggest he's holding out for the UGA HC position.
I think you’re right, he’d be looking for any HC position. UGA may be his dream school, but he’d be crazy to manuever around waiting on Richt to be fired.

Dawg boards
What I’ve read is that when Richt promoted his just-fired buddy, Willie Martinez, to DC, Willie wanted a role for his buddy, Janacek (also fired), and made him the LB coach. That left Kirby, a defensive coach, without a spot, so he was made to take over RB coaching. Richt approved all of this in Bowdenesque fashion, and Smart was none too pleased with Richt. He left at the earliest opportunity. I’d be surprised to see him go back.

Best path for Smart to be Georgia's HC would be to take the FSU job
He builds our defense for two years allowing the Georgia brass to realize Richt has been dodging the bullet by throwing his coaching staff in the line of fire. Then when they come to their senses and fire Richt, Smart would have proven he is a great DC and move on as the HC to UGA
I probably know Judo! How many of you can make the same boast?

a teaser on a premium site
is talking about candidates for the DB coach. That indicates two things
1) the DC is picked and is quietly recruiting a staff
2) the DC is not a DB coach, i.e. not Smart. Unless Smart is going to split secondary coaching responsibilities or coach a position he’s never coached before.

Would Smart not hire a DBs coach?
If (1) is correct, it wouldn’t shock me. I don’t think (2) is necessarily indicated, though. It might actually indicate quite the opposite. That’s Smart’s position, so he might have his mind first on hiring a DBs coach to work with him.

Name a single DC who
doesn’t also coach a position.
But you are possibly right. Back before Bowden did more delegating, with a head coach and 9 assistants, he hired five defensive assts and four offensive assts, making it five coaches on offense and five on defense. Jimbo might do the same. Then Smart could coach safeties himself, and hire a coach to do corners.
Interestingly, such a scenario of four offensive assistants and five defensive assistants fits the various rumors — lots of word about Carter being let go, making it two openings on offense (with Jimbo moving up) if your retain the idea of five offensive assistants. But I for one have only heard of one potential offensive assistant being brought in – Dameyune Craig

I think that means Smart is no longer a DC candidate
sucks. But we will still get a good one

premium sites are not any better informed than this one
TN said Bowden being gone was a done deal, and 24 hours later pay sites were still refuting it.

New DC
Is most likely Sal Sunseri, the LB coach of Alabama. Would be a great hire IMO.

The game last night
Show’s that anyone from Bama would be a good hire.
