Jimbo on Gameday (summary for those who missed it)

First question was how did he feel about the way it ended for Bobby. Jimbo said he is happy to be coach but sorry that his hero is gone. Said he has a good connection to the Bowdens and would have been happy to let Bobby come back another year.

Second question was how long until he brings a championship back. Jimbo said every member of the Big 3 had their time but the other two come back up quickly because of the level of talent in the state. Said kids want to come to Tallahassee. Said he is going to build up the infrastructure around the program, which is something he learned from Saban. Says it was the same thing they did at LSU and that Saban did at Alabama. Said he doesn't want to put a time table on a MNC but thinks they will be back to the top soon.

Third, asked about the DC. He said he wants someone who can use speed and size and is very multiple. Wants a coach who can use different types of players because Florida produces so much elite. Talent. Says their are a couple of different guys they are talking to right now.

After the interview they went around the table. Corso says next year we can get 9 or 10 wins and win the ACC with the amount of talent we have returning. Desmond says we have to wait and see who the DC is. He admitted that if we had a good defense this year we would have possibly only lost one game the entire year. Kirk says with the amount of talent returning on offense he feels we can win the ACC as well as long as we get a good DC. Herbie also said we have the best QB in the ACC.

Fowler flat out said Strong is gone after the year to coach at Louisville btw. He was talking about DC opening this year and didn't even treat Strong leaving as a rumor or just a possibility. Wonder if he knows more than is public knowledge.

All in all good segment. Jimbo looked confident and like he has a plan in place. He brought up his connections to Bowden to appease the old guard at FSU, his time at LSU to show he has been a part of a building a national power, and brought up his connection to Saban to let people know he learned under one of the best.

I found it interesting that Jimbo said

we have a few guys we are looking at for DC, then amended himself to say “a couple”.

Seeing results already

Yeah it’s an interview, but in sum, he was prepared and professional. I think it will carry over to the field.

And of course Kirk Herbie had to take a cheapshot at the ACC when Desmond second guessed Lee's 9-10 win prediction by saying,
“Well this is the ACC we are talking about, not the SEC, so 9-10 wins is possible.”

He is such a little pr*ck I sometimes feel like bitch slapping him all over the Gameday set.

Unfortunately, he is right, but he still pisses me off.

People should start calling the Big 10 the Little 11

I’ve been doing it for years (mainly just to bug my friends who are mainly OSU and PSU fans).

Desmond also feels that Tebow is the only player that can 'will' a team to victory

Which equates to him being 2nd on his Heisman ballot while leaving Spiller out.

And for Christ’s sake can FSU get some hot ass chicks on TV, that Jenn Brown is a dirty gator too.

We don't have a journalism program

Let alone sports journalism. Miami and Florida have those on lockdown in this state.

She just has fake boobs

Her face bugs me. And I bumped into her at the mall once and was…very underwhelmed. That other cowgirl, the one dancing for the Dolphins, she was pretty fine.

What more do you need

other than a nice set, emptiness between the ears that we can fill with whatever the hell we tell her, and a burning love for the Garnet and Gold?

Natural’s always better. But I guess the rest of what you said just depends on your motivation.

Motivation

Is to provide a solution to the following comment by Raysnnoles

I don't know who Jenn Brown is lol

But if you would prefer to have Holly Rowe’s all over the field, than you’re crazy.

Jenn Brown in the new hot blonde on Gameday

Just for the record I am not for Holly Rowe, there is a reason ABC sent her to Pitt, so they could bundle her up and hide as much as possible.

I heard that too

It seemed Herbie was a bit full of himself today.

by mudra on Dec 5, 2009 1:08 PM EST up reply actions

I think that’s a fair assessment. I thought all of them were very complimentary of Fisher’s and FSU’s chances going forward.

by evenflow58 on Dec 5, 2009 9:42 PM EST up reply actions

When he says infrastructure...

is he talking about physical infrastructure(indoor practice facility), human infrastructure(coaches and connections), or both?

by revival on Dec 5, 2009 12:19 PM EST reply actions

I didn't hear that he was going to write a check for it,

but I did hear that a booster was going to play a big part in developing an indoor practice facility, but not until Bobby hung it up.

by DamonH on Dec 5, 2009 3:32 PM EST up reply actions

An indoor facility is a luxury, not a necessity

Endowing our athletic scholarships is a necessity. Once that’s done, Boosters won’t have to foot the bill for what, like $10M in scholarships every single year? We’d have enough money in no time for that. I HOPE Fisher would recruit donations for that cause first. I think he’d do it if asked to, too.

by tricknole on Dec 5, 2009 1:12 PM EST up reply actions

I don't like that Frank

The field is named after Bowden, he has a statue, and that stained glass crap. Why not name the pratice facility after Mickey Andrews? He deserves it.

That was sarcasm. Sorry I wasn't clearer.

It was a joke I thought more people would understand due the the practice bubble for the Dolphins is nickname the Nick Saban Memorial Bubble. Saban lobbied hard for the bubble, then said he was not interested in leaving the Fins, then before you know it, he is gone (thank God) for Bama. Thus the nickname of Nick Saban Memorial, thus the Bobby Bowden Memorial Bubble. OK pretty lame, I admit it.

I thought you were going for the "Bubble"

because of the Olympics. Wasn’t the swimming building dubbed “the Bubble” in China?

WOW

That is more than I expected. I was envisioning the tent thing thatCowboys practiced under.

Government contract bidders
For construction Coach Bowden’s observation tower and a giant oak tree would have to be cleared from the site.

That about kills it.

Isn’t that facility similar to the one one that got raped in Dallas and paralized a coach

No offense Frank but a lot of SoFL is an eye-sore

Putting that in the middle of the baseball and football complex would stick out like a sore thumb

No offense taken, believe me. I agree it not as aesthetically pleasing to the eye as the one being planned, but for $10 mil less, I think it will be more than adequate.

In addition, Chuck the Clown, in his new position with the Flying High Circus, can also use it for practices, just like being under the Big Top, when the football team is not using it.

I say we do two of them

side by side with Bobby’s tower in between. The it will look like Florida’s capitol building from Apalachee Parkway. I always though it looked like a phallic symbol.

DJ82585 alludes to most of it below and FSUn has mentioned it a few times on this site also but the football staff will be greatly embiggened. Video staff, teaching staff, you name it we’re likely to have it. Basically Jimbo plans on bringing the SEC to the ACC. This is very good news as those programs are run like businesses, which is how they should be run because they are businesses. As Jimbo mentioned Saban is very good at this sort of thing and Bama and FSU are about to become very similar.

I was excited to see Fisher as the HC next year and after that interview I’m even more excited. He obviously has a plan laid out and intends on following. Just a guess but I’m going to assume he’s already briefed management (see boosters) on his plans going forward.

by evenflow58 on Dec 5, 2009 9:47 PM EST up reply actions

Both

It starts with the Human infrastructure, building a program(not just a team but rebuilding the program). Around a certin type of players and coaches. From there the connections begin to redevelop around the state and country. Once that is build the product on the field speaks for itself and the physical infrastrucure will come, ie people will be willing to give even more to the program to help gain the indoor facilities and other items the program so dearly needs.(an example of this is Rutgers before they started to run the poop shoot the past year or two).
