You steal our recruits...We steal your recruiter!!!
It seems that a lot of UT fans are very freaked out about the possibility of losing RB/ST coach Eddie Gran. For those of you that aren't familiar with him, here's the link of his bio from the UT website
http://www.utsports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/gran_eddie00.html
Evidently this guy is a stellar recruiter, and has had a hand in coaching some of the better running backs in college football history (Cadillac, Rudi Johnson, Ronnie Brown, and someone said he coached Deuce as well).
Anyways, it appears that Coach Coley isn't the only one moving quickly. Forgive me if this is old news, but it seems that this story is really finding some meat, and that the UT faithful are genuinely worried. Word on the street is that he is also a tenacious recruiter, and a solid coach to boot. Rumor is that he's only (Ha! "only) making $150K-$250K in Knoxville, and that his value outweighs his pricetag.
Lots of rumors about who could possibly step in as RC once James "the Hammer" Coley is promoted to OC.
Once again, if this is old news, forgive me, but this is another early XMas present IMO.

I heard this yesterday
Not old news. He also coached Brandon Jacobs for a year and did coach Deuce. He recruits strictly the SoFla area for TN and has some nice commits. He could be our RB/RC once we get rid of Carter. I’d love to land him.
If we were to get Gran, would we still take Craig? We’d have 6 offensive coaches (Coley, Fisher, Craig, Trickett, Dawsey, Gran) and would only have 3 spots to fill DE, LB, DB, which is what we’ve been doing, so it wouldn’t be anything unorthodox. We could add Smart DC/DB, Jones DE and Diaz LB?
That’d be a filthy staff, imo.
So you're hoping for a staff of:
Fisher – Coley – Smart
Trickett – Dawsey – Gran – Jones – Diaz?
That is indeed “filthy”. Be afraid, ACC…be very afraid.
No way
In no way am I dissagreeing with the fact these coaches could be here, I’m scared to get too excited. That staff is just too impressive. If we pulled that off, I’ll be in tears.
Why is everyone....
considering Coley a lock for OC? All the attention seems to be on the new DC, whoever he/she/it will be. But what is Coley’s street cred for taking over the offense? Yeah, he’s young, energetic, Twitters really well, and all of that, but what does he bring to the table that translates into yards and touchdowns? Just wonderin’.
I see it as either Craig or Gran -> both considered for the RB coach slot
not both.

Craig could be hired as QB coach actually

It is a two edged sword LOL

" Fisher’s approach to building a winner is lifted from Saban’s playbook. Right down to the terminology such as becoming more "process oriented" as opposed to "results oriented."
" Nick and I are friends," he said. "That guy is one of the best football coaches I’ve ever been around. God knows he’s brilliant. … A lot of the things he believes are a lot of things I believe. We’re very similar!
The process begins!
Care to elaborate, Doc?
I understand if you don’t have time. It’s international “Worship Tim Tebow” day, if you’re too busy painting on eye black with Bible Verses, Circumcizing a young child, or crying, you can explain later.
Gran is the second-best recruiter on UT's staff behind Orgeron
He is a force in So Fla. Imagine those Miami kids entertaining Gran and Coley in one evening…. wow.
Montario Hardesty has been amazing this year for UT as well.
Co-conductor of the "Kirby Smart for DC 2010" Train!!!!
So is this a done deal?
On a recruiting note Coleys out getting the kids and Jimbos out getting the men. FSU the NEW DYNASTY
Score
You used my nickname for Coley. Hope it catches on!
its not a done deal
a story I heard is that Gran is a bit too laid back and doesn’t work that well with kiffin and orgeron and that staff. they dont fight, they are just different styles, and Gran wants a more relaxed atmosphere and spend more time with his family. Take this FWIW.
Becareful with what you hear
I would not be surprised if people start leaking false rumors as Gran walks out the door
Deion Sanders --- WHY NOT HIM?
I remember a few years back Neion Deion wanted to coach the ATL Falcons when that head job was opening.
Fisher keeps talking about wanting to get back to the grass roots of FSU.
I tell you what… NEION DEION is about as grass roots as it comes!
And you couldn’t tell me Deion couldn’t recruit?! This guy could sell a ketchup popsicle to a woman in white gloves!
Northern NOLE
involved with what?
after chatting noel devine into a different school, I’d like to understand his loyalties
I was thinking the same thing
I think he cares about FSU, but he cares wayyyyy more about Deion.
Noel Devine would not have qualified for FSU
nor was FSU in good enough condition for him. Deion did what was right for that kid honestly. As noles I understand why some would be hurt, but Noel Devine has his own life to live and at the time WVU was the wiser choice.
It seems that he cares less and less about FSU as the years go by
It's a beautiful day in Tallahassee
I'm guessing all of you missed when Deion came to speak to the team before the season?
He still cares about FSU
college assistants jobs
at most schools, including FSU, require degrees guys. Deion didn’t complete his yet. He skipped most his classes his last semester, flunkign them all (thus the development of the Deion Sanders rule), and sat out the next semester to prep for the draft.

Also
If you think our DBs couldn’t tackle this year, what do you think would happen with Prime as a DB coach?
by osceolafan850 on Dec 6, 2009 10:38 PM EST up reply actions
Maybe they're thinking
our guys wouldn’t need to tackle because Primetime would teach the boys to intercept everything lying through the air and take it to the house. They’re probably also thinking about a D that doesn’t have to rely primarily on DBs to stop the run.
Does Deion even know how to coach.
I don’t recall him having solid fundamentals.
It's a beautiful day in Tallahassee
???????????????
Deion was an incredibly hard worker.
I wouldn’t want Deion to coach. The most naturally talented players are typically the worst coaches — they just went out there and did it as players. You want players that far exceeded their natural talents as coaches. This obsession on bringing back the “greats” of FSU football is such a joke for that reason. You want the guy who busted his back to learn his position, typically the guy with limited abilities. They can explain who to do something. The ones who contributed or started right away just “do it” and typically have no idea how to explain how to “just do it”.

pardon me for a moment of clarity
I heard some flyby poster on another forum slamming Gran saying that he was at best a lukewarm coach, and recruiting was nothing stellar.
i find it all just steam rolls until every coaching hire is stellar.. but the same people here praising to no end, they were probably posting the same things when the last coaches were hired.
where is all this worry that tennessee is having?
please provide links.
I think the game I am in is that their agents spend all this time on the forums, talking about money they are worth and who is gonna grab them if we dont raise their salary.
this game i expect to be played ad nauseum for the entire fisher era.. if he makes it an era..
but i just dont want to hear it
please provide valid links, and not just make this a rumor hysteria jungsum.
You can get on any UT message board and check their reaction.
Those fans usually follow the program pretty closely, and the fact that they were all pretty bummed about his leaving is a good sign.
Also, his recruiting data for this season is listed at rivals, scout, and ESPN.
He’s also coached a couple of NFL backs…
If that’s not enough, I really don’t know what is

The link was actually mentioned in another thread. Sorry you didn’t catch that.
Here you go:
http://www.rockytoptalk.com/2009/12/6/1188201/eddie-gran-leaves-tennessee-for#comments
After a good guy announces he’s leaving, the team’s fans first express concern, then talk themselves down from the excitment by trying to say he wasn’t critical or important or good, or else they try to save face by dissin’ the guy because they just cannot accept that someone would “reject” their program to go to another.
In addition, you might want to look at what independent news reporters have to say about the man: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=4724724&name=Southeast_Recruiting
That has nothing to do with fans prasing or criticizing a guy.
As far as whether anyone here would ever call for him to go…? Success at one program or during one time does not mean that the guy will gel or continue his sucess. Example, is Bobby Bowden. We loved him when he was in his prime, but after making very bad decisions about the assts. he hired and the team tanked—it was time. No one is eager to see Trickett go to Marshall and if he does, we will miss him. I highly doubt you will see any criticism of him. When we wanted Jeff Bowden out, we were justified. No D-1 team has wanted or welcomed him. No one was celebrating him. He was so bad that the only job he could get was coaching for his brother. We have also said however, that he did well as a wide receivers coach. He just isn’t OC material—or at least he wasn’t while he was here. He may eventually be able to learn enough to meet OC requirements. People have different gifts and those gifts can change (for better or worse) over time and under verynig circumstances. We just call them like we see them. Gran looks to be an improvement over Carter. Luc said that Gran’s coming to FSU influenced his decision to commit. So his recruiting prowess was apparently not based upon the Tenn. “Hostesses” influence.
Slightly off topic, but...
Does that mean we have to start talking down Rick Trickett now? Friggin’ lazy offensive line…
I bleed Garnet and piss Gold.
