Wow, that's a huge hire

FSU better lock him up. I’m worried about Tuberville sneaking him away as soon as he gets another gig.

Gran and Tubbs are pretty close from what I've heard

I’m worried he may go back to Tubbs if he gets a good gig.

Gran by one report

will make $300K. Kiffin was unable to match it, currently paying Gran $190K.

If a running back coach and either ST, RC (if he is taking Coley’s place as Coley moves to OC) or both is making $300K at FSU, I wonder what raises other coaches returning to FSU will make, and what is being offered to other assistant candidates.

by Wild@Heart Nole on Dec 6, 2009 3:39 PM EST up reply actions

I don't think UT was going to match

Considering what they’re dishing out for Lane, Monte and Ed Orgeron. Here’s acoaches salary list from govolsxtra.com

Lane Kiffin Head Coach $2,000,000

Monte Kiffin Defensive Coordinator $1,200,000*

Ed Orgeron Recruiting Coordinator/Defensive Line $650,000

Jim Chaney Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line $380,000

Lance Thompson Linebackers $350,000

Eddie Gran Running Backs/Special Teams $185,000

James Cregg Tight Ends/Tackles $150,000

David Reaves Quarterbacks $150,000

Frank Wilson Wide Receivers $150,000

Willie Garza Defensive Backs $110,000

Was it just me

Or did anyone else get the feeling during the bama game that we’re not getting Smart?

by jasonole59 on Dec 6, 2009 1:40 PM EST reply actions

It seemed like he was getting more camera time than usual.

The common thinking was that he wasn’t getting much credit for the D, but aside from the one “Saban’s Defense” comment, Smart appeared to be getting alot of credit.

Undefeated SEC team that shutdown one of the top offenses in the country (holding to 1 TD) and will probably win the MNC. He may get looked at for a HC position sooner than later.

Who knows, maybe I was just thinking, there’s no way we would be able to put a powerhouse staff like this together..it would be too good to be true.

by jasonole59 on Dec 7, 2009 9:03 AM EST up reply actions

at this point

I don’t think we would get Smart until January, mid, at the earliest as he considers possible head coaching jobs. DC of the potential national champion, even if it is seen as someone else’s defense? If Jimbo wants to wait, only to potentiallysee all his fallback choices sign elsewhere, so Smart can see if he can get a head coaching job, ok, maybe Smart is still it. But I think Alabama beating Florida killed the chances for Smart.

by Wild@Heart Nole on Dec 7, 2009 9:17 AM EST up reply actions

You also have to consider

That Mark Richt and UGA are gunning for Kirby Smart also to fill their vacant DC spot. Plus Alabama has insane amounts of cash…they might toss much more cash to keep Kirby along for another season or two if he doesnt fly for a HC job somewhere.

So at this point, Im pretty sure Smart is a no-go for FSU. Sal Sunseri however, is a different story. We just might end up with Sal. Hes meeting with Fisher/FSU this week.

How is Gran

as a special teams coach? Would he be ST coach at FSU as well?

by Pinto on Dec 6, 2009 1:56 PM EST reply actions

While at Auburn...

he had the #1 ranked special teams in the SEC.
I hope he is a stellar recruiter for us.

by revival on Dec 6, 2009 2:10 PM EST up reply actions

we probably won't know his role

until it is announced. Logically, he’s the running back coach, and given his background you figure that he’ll either be the ST coach or recruting coordinator after this next NSD if Coley is moving to OC.

Wonder why Tubber ville hasnt been talked about for some of these job openings.

I wouldnt mind having him as our DC. I remember how bad he was on J-Mac’s nut’s in that all americian game last year. He might come hear and coach just for him LOL

by kiefernole on Dec 6, 2009 2:27 PM EST reply actions

He's ours!

HUGE!

First thing he needs to do is meet up with Coley and hit that recruiting trail.

by CSI Nole on Dec 6, 2009 2:50 PM EST reply actions

Also say Ass. Head Coach

by kiefernole on Dec 6, 2009 3:47 PM EST reply actions

Starting to worry about our New DC if it was smart i would figure he would get this title

Warchant's free article

reports that Gran has a buyout in his Tennessee contract (he has a two year deal that he is leaving a year early on) IF he isn’t named a coordinator at his new school. The buyout is reported $100K.

So almost certainly Gran is being hired as either FSU’s new recruiting coordinator, the special teams coordinator, or both.

by Wild@Heart Nole on Dec 6, 2009 3:50 PM EST reply actions

I'll post the same thing I said in the other thread about Gran

For the record Gran is a fantastic recruiter. He also is a stud RB coach. Montario Hardesty has never rushed for more than 400 yards a season. This year he’s over 1,300 I think. Besides Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown who he mentored he also developed Rudi Johnson and Deuce McAllister. The guy knows rb’s plain and simple and is a great recruiter. This is a huge hire. Wouldn’t be surprised if he is named the new recruiting coordinator.

by 1newplayer on Dec 6, 2009 3:51 PM EST reply actions

So are we thinking he coaches STs as well?

RB/recruiting sounds like a heavy load already.

by tdchrisdavis on Dec 6, 2009 4:11 PM EST reply actions

that's what I was thinking

don’t want him pulled too thin with RB, Recruiting, and ST. But I do believe we need a dedicated ST coach…

by Pinto on Dec 6, 2009 4:56 PM EST up reply actions

Love the RB's he has already coached...

It should help our long list of RB’s develop and develop much faster than they were under Dexter.
