That's a video of Sunseri in action. Chantrant has a nice profile of him as well!

many don't think so,
but I have heard great things and Fisher has done a nice job with his hires/ requests to date. Plus, Saban hired him to fix Bama’s passrush.
i love the analysis here
but when do you sleep?
theres a reason..
smart is DC at bama and sal is LB coach.. obviously saban thinks smart is better at DC or it would be the other way around there!
this is only his 1st season at bama..
He wasnt going to come in at take over Smarts job…
"The goal is to be a champion," Saban said. "I didn’t say to win a championship. I just said be a champion. That’s our goal here. That’s what we want to do."- Nick Saban
In name as far as we know.
We don’t know to what extent he is involved in scheming and coordinating. When Steele was here I’m sure he was installing packages for us, but he was a position coach also.
I think everyone will be OK with Sunseri once the dust settles (if it is even him)...
I think the reasoning for why we could get Smart was rock solid, and had many believing. Anything short of that will seem like a temporary let down.
Well, at least he will teach our guys to hit
Maybe next year we won’t find ourselves celebrating when the third FSU defender finally makes the tackle…
As long as he can get rid of arm tackling and facemask-in-the-turf tackling, I'm good.
There’s been some debate about whether guys should tackle high or low. I say you stick the shoulderpad in the belly button and drive right through the ball carrier or at least grab him around the waste or the thighs. When I played B-ball the key to defense was focussing on your man’s belly button. He can head fake, jab step, juke, and do all the moves he wants, but he cannot fake you out with his stomach. I’m tired of guys grabbing for the ball carrier’s shoulder only to end up with a hand of air or a horse collar and tired of guys trying to tacle the other man’s ankles only to end up with a facemask full of turf and the ball carrier jumping right over.
Welcome buddy....
Glad to see you found this site.

His lack of being a DC scares me
Honestly. I have faith in Jimbo, and know he’ll make a great hire. But I can’t help but be a little skeptical because he has never been a DC at a Div.1 school. I mean, if he’s so great, at age 50, why has he not yet gotten a DC position?
God, I hope everything works out.
question..
Jimbo still hasn’t been a proven HC but yet you have faith in him. Why not give Sal a chance?

Well...
1) I didn’t say I wasn’t willing to give Sal a chance. I’m sure he’ll be an excellent coach, it just makes me wonder since he’s not a proven DC.
2) I’ve seen what Jimbo can do to an offense. We went from the worst offense in the conference to the best. Our offense has done a total 180 since Jeff left, which leaves me with tremendous confidence in Jimbo. I know now he can definitely coach, and it makes me feel better about him as a HC.
I just don’t know enough about Sal to be 100% gung-ho for him. However, I will support and welcome him if he is hired, make no mistake.

He'll be better than what we've had.
If he only improves us a little bit and is not finishing the job, he will get cut and we will get someone else to get the job done. In the near term, he will improve the D, esp. the front 7 where he has exp. as position coach. Jimbo will get us the best possible.
With all of the great news coming out of Tally, I wouldn’t be surprised if we continue the streak. I think many are in disbelief of the shock and awe campaign of the new Fisher regime and are spreading false rumors to try to put a damper on it. IMO
agree, but I don't buy the "he'll be better than what we had"
anybody would be better than what we had this year. We need to get the BEST available. If that is Sal, then I’m fine with that.
question for you bammer if you don't mind
What do you like about Sal and why should we be excited to have him?
He pretty much
took a D-line who couldn’t sniff the QB last and turned them into QB hunting machines. Hw brings the NFL defensive mindset (the same kinda thinking Saban has) and knows how to “Coach em up”.
Now when it comes to X’s and O’s, that i don’t know. Im not sure what kinda input he has on the day to day defensive game plan. All i know is last year, we struggled in getting pressure and this year, we obviously don’t.

Good golly, Miss Molly
66 TFL? I can take 21 sacks if we are still getting pressure on the QB and disrupting the backfield, but a 40% drop in TFL show our line was simply atrocious. I had no idea it was that bad (the hard numbers, not the onfield performance).
I wouldnt be surprised if there was a player in college football
that had more TFL than that.

I think I saw an article that Selvie has a chance to break the career record with like 70 or so
It's a beautiful day in Tallahassee
guy is INTENSE
anyone want to imagine CTC running that drill?…ahhhh that’s funny because it’s past tense.
Not an alcoholic, just an FSU grad.
I think everyone is a little scared about anyone that comes into the pos.
I think we need to look at the dif between a OC vs a DC. The OC calls plays from the book to take adv. of the other team with downs and distance. The DC can do this but for the most part all he can realy do is coach the players to line up right and who they take/where to be. The DC biggest job will be getting the team ready to stop the other offence in the 1st half and make adg. in the 2nd. His changes are not going to be that dramatic for the most part. With the talent we have and are getting we dont have to have a great DC just someone that can teach our players how to do there job. what teams have crazy offencse that we have to stop. (GT and UF) the rest run just about the same thing. Spread or pro-style.

Pass Rush
Desman’s right, but lest we forget a solid pass rush will hide the shortcoming’s in your secondary (which killed us this year and kept the defense on the field after so many brutal 3rd down conversions).
Additionally, if he teaches sound technique for gap containment in stopping the run to ANY success over what we’ve been gashed by this year, as well as deciding that we will indeed COVER THE FREAKIN TIGHT END inside the red zone (I understand that blitze schemes give up TE coverage, but do it in the middle of the field or bring the safties up/drop corners into middle cover zone)…we should be just fine.
TRUST IN JIMBO

Haha
Back in 1980 when Sunseri was a linebacker at the University of Pittsburgh, Sports Illustrated wrote “Sunseri…prepares for games by banging his head against doorjambs.”
Process
The biggest thing you’re going to see when we Blitz from now on is an understanding of the blitz concept. When you blitz its not a free for all, certain guys are going into certain gaps for specific reasons. All of our guys blitzed to make a sack that’s not the way a good blitz is designed or executed, that goes back to the teaching and comprehension part of it. When good teams blitz it’s generally to create a free rusher based on the lanes, angles and timing of the rest of the Blitzer’s. That comes down to guys running at the proper shoulder instead of just running mindlessly into the fray. Hours of practice time will be dedicated to not only knowing what you’re doing but most importantly KNOWING WHY YOU DO IT.

Sunseri has coached far more than Smart
With the 16 game schedules in the NFL, plus the three times the Panthers were in the playoffs, he had more opportunity to coach.
My numbers are probably off a bit, but Sunseri has coached in ~310 games to Smart at ~120.
Plus, in the NFL, he has far more time to spend with players than in college. I have to think, that the experience he received under John Fox for seven seasons (2002-2008) is enough to coordinate a defense in college.
john fox
is a great defensive mind. did some great things with the Giants defense too. No doubt it helps to coach with a guy who’s coached 2 super bowl caliber defense in new york and carolina.
im sure if we offer him the job than sunseri is a good fit for the job
What's the latest on Diaz?
Is he pretty much out because of his Amato ties?

Interest is still there somewhat, but so is interest from UGA, probably as LB coach.

FSUn
do you think Fisher would let T-Buck have a shot at coaching the DBs or is he not ready to step up to a coaching role?
