2010 Recruit Ed Christian commits to the Florida State Seminoles!
Christian is an offensive lineman. He becomes the second commitment for the class of 2010, joining defensive linemen Darius Cummings.
More Inside...
Christian is an offensive lineman. He becomes the second commitment for the class of 2010, joining defensive linemen Darius Cummings.
Christian plays for the Lowndes High Vikings, of Valdosta Georgia. The 'Noles are really doing well with Lowndes kids lately, having landed Greg Reid (The #2 CB in the nation) and Gerald Demps (an ESPNU 150 Safety) in the 2009 class. They like our no-nonsense approach and we like their South Georgia attitude. Lowndes is a multi-year champion in Georgia and Randy McPherson runs an excellent program.
"Me, Greg, and Gerald are real close," Christian said. "We're doing track and stuff together right now."_ Democrat
I like getting multiple guys from a single high school because the players tend to hold each other accountable within their group. Also, multiple guys from one high school might make it less likely that a player will get homesick.
Christian is a huge Seminoles fan and he was telling people that he could commit on the spot if offered by the Seminoles. On Wednesday, we did just that. The Democrat article (linked above) profiles his excitement.
As for his eventual recruiting ranking, I think we are looking at a 6.0 5.8 rated 4* recruit (rivals). He plays with great aggresion and he is relentless. Championship teams are built under center and in the trenches and FSU is getting a good one here. Christian is currently sporting a beard, which is awesome, but it might not help him play better. He was named to the AP's 1st team Georgia Offensive Line and an honorable mention offensive line selection by the Atlanta Journal Constitution, a paper that famously neglects south Georgia kids.
Christian checks in at 6' 5", 278lbs. He might still be growing, considering he's either an old 16 or a young 17 years of age. Watching his film, he can easily add 20-30 more pounds without looking sloppy. He will play Left Tackle for Rick Trickett, which means we still have some work to do on the defensive tackle front (Maybe we think Amp McCloud is a sure thing?

Goodness...
Two commitments and they are both lineman?
Don’t our coaches know that recruiting is won with flashy skill position players with academic, mental, and drug-addiction problems?
ARGH!!! Get on the ball coaches or else we’ll never win another recruiting title!!!
\sarcasm
true but titles that count are won by putting qbs on their @$$
and with the lines weve been recruiting we should see alot of that

I miss Lil Colt already.
I totally wanted to follow his recruiting throughout the year.
Lil Colt, we hardly knew ye.
I just don't understand Texas Recruits...
Why not take some visits and see the country before you commit? Once you give your word to Texas, they hold your scholarship hostage. If you take any visits, they pull it.

Don't get me wrong...
I LOVE the early recruits FSU has been pulling, but it seems to be such a different situation. While we appreciate the early commits, we let them take as many visits as they like. That’s the way it should be in my opinion.
It’s frustrating to see the negative recruiting that Texas does every year keep working.

We are so hosed on scholarships next year.
We only have like 18 to give and there are 25 player people we HAVE to sign.
Somebody get me Aaron Gresham, Ed Imeokparia, Evan Bellamy, and Cameron Wade on the phone.
Don't you want to chat with Chuck's lone recruit...
Maurice Harris? What a great late day pickup that was for us… thanks Coach Clown….
The only problem with that is I am desperately concerned about our LB depth after next year.
We can’t cut both Harris and Gresham… and I guess Aaron drew the short straw when I posted.
In 2010 we will have a great starting group, but nothing else.
Smith, Bradham, and Williams will start. Carr and Mizell (hopefully) will get plenty of minutes as backups. I don’t trust Mister Alexander, Aaron Gresham, or Maurice Harris at all. In that entire group, we have about 5.75 really good linebackers.
I think we should move Moody to OLB and count on one of the freshmen to take over SS next year. Or maybe switch Moody in 2010 and let Downs (hopefully he qualifies) or Demps take over as sophomores.
We absolutely have to sign Jones and Luc. Personally, I would go all out for Alec Ogletree and play him at OLB as well.
Do you think we only recruited 1 LB this year...
because of the uncertainty with the LB coach? Go after LB recruits hard in 2010 with a new LB coach? Or was this a product of not having a LB coach that anyone wants to play for?
We only signed one recruit because our LB coach is garbage.
And he’s not a good recruiter anymore either.
And there's one of the problems.
We have to get 3 LBs. We have to get 3 DTs. We have to get 2-3 DEs. We have to get 2-3 CBs.
There are too many phenomenal wide receivers in our area (all of Florida, south Georgia, and pockets of Alabama) for us to not sign 4. The list of quality wide receivers with ridiculous speed is so long we must get our fair share. I’m thinking DJ Johnson is our top priority. I like the new guy we’ve offered, Ambles. Ted Meline and Chris Dunkley are beasts and we should definitely try to get them to turn away from their current leaders. Dunbar is really good. Dixon can fly and has size. I don’t know if Preston’s situation has hurt our chances with James Louis, but he’s a good receiver. Jazz King… awesome name. There are still a ton of other good receivers that I haven’t named, plus Christian Green who, if he doesn’t play QB, could be a phenomenal WR.
That puts us around 13-15 commits. Now you add in a couple of OL, a RB or two, and an extra player here or there and we’re pushing 20-22 commits. I don’t think we have those kinds of scholarships to give next year.
We lose 14 seniors. I am betting we don’t see D’Vo play football anymore. I think Bellamy should hang it up as well. That puts us at 65 players going into next season with the addition of Stork. Without something fancy, we couldn’t sign 20 players even without the scholarship reductions.
My suggestion? Encourage Cameron Wade to look for playing opportunities elsewhere. We can sign a WR who is better than him this year. Ed Imeokparia has been passed on the depth chart by people who haven’t even arrived on campus yet.
I don’t advocate cutting people who haven’t been given a chance. That is not what we should be in business to do. But if you have yet to make a contribution in your 3rd year, we have to look elsewhere, especially if you are hold-over from the previous regime.
Green will be a great WR here.
Very excited about him.
Don’t forget about Josh Reese.
Our goal is simple: Best in the land
Kill a fly with an axe -- Mickey Andrews
Slight correction
Green will be a great QB here.
Fixed that for ya.

No, I will bet money he will play WR.
His size/speed combo screams All American.
Our goal is simple: Best in the land
Kill a fly with an axe -- Mickey Andrews
A good comparison
Christian Green playing QB is like Willie Downs playing WR.
Complete misuse of resources if Green plays quarterback here.
Our goal is simple: Best in the land
Kill a fly with an axe -- Mickey Andrews
I think it's the other way around
Sure, Green could play WR and almost certainly would be pretty good at it.
But put him at QB, just like putting Downs at S, and you might have something special.
That speed and explosion you want to see at WR from him… imagine that at QB. He can throw fine too.
If we don’t put him at QB, and we don’t go after Godfrey hard I will be pissed. Both these guys could be studs here.

Godfrey in particular
He’s a shorter Michael Vick.

Micheal Vick?
shyea right
you think Godfrey runs a legit 4.3?
Vick had a top five arm in the league. Godfrey?
Our goal is simple: Best in the land
Kill a fly with an axe -- Mickey Andrews
By all acounts Godfrey's arm is spectacular
He may not run a 4.3 but he can motor, his game speed is as good as anyone.

I didn't mean to hijack this thread.
I am extremely excited that Ed has committed to us and I think he will be a great OT.
Unforgivable!
:-)
'Gentlemen, it is better to have died a small boy than to fumble this football.' John Heisman
I think we'd be more likely to sign 20-22 than 18
QB 0-1
RB 1-2
Slot Wr 2-3
Outside WR 0-1 (Christian Green)
OL 2-3
DT/NT 4
SDE 2
OLB 1
MLB 2
CB 3
Safety 0-1 (Alec Ogletree)
So that’s 22 assuming we take 3 OL and a QB, both of which are not as likely as initially believed.
We won't get Ogletree
I think 2-3 DT is enough.

Yeah, I know
That’s why its 0-1. This year CBs, last year S. But, like last year, we’ll take a safety if a super talented one wants to come, like Greg Reid.
6.0?
That would put him up on the rivals 100. He wasn’t on the rivals 250 to watch list.
I think a 5.7 or 5.8 is more accurate.

This is great news.
I am tempted to use the word pipeline, but will refrain. I really like what we are doing. Once we get Trick locked up (assuming it happens) I think we can become a place where the top Oline in the country want to come play.
I hate to say this since I can be pretty cynical, but even with the restrictions, I cant help but feel encouraged, and even hopeful about the future. I mean, Im not the only one right? It feels like we finally have a distinct direction, and Jimbo hasn’t even grabbed the wheel yet. It is nice to watch a program being rebuilt. contented sigh
We're in the right direction
I think we’re the top team in the ACC next year and will return to our dominance soon.

I keep seeing people projecting us taking a RB. Why? Do we expect to loose some after this season? Pressley still has 2 years to play, right? Outside of him we have 2 sophomores and 2 freshmen. Do we really need 5+ RBs on our roster in ’10?
We are fairly high on the list of some GREAT running backs.
It’s like the scenario I described about WRs this year… there are just too many really good players to not get our share.
Pressley will probably be cut unless he makes significant progress this year.
Also, there is no guarantee he stays qualified, if you catch my drift.
Jones has diabetes and can’t keep weight on, which could make him a flop. Many think Pryor will flop (including me). Thompson is a 3rd down back/ slot guy.
Why with Pryor
I can’t get a good read on him at all.
Everyone has a different opinion.
Some say he has good visions, others say not.

Welcome Ed!
The 2 high schools in Valdosta are very good programs with winning traditions. I wonder if we have connections with Valdosta High School…there should be some talent there too.
