Taiwan Easterling Injured, Everette Brown Hot, Amato Re-signed, and the Big East Hurting

Taiwan Easterling will miss spring practiced with a ruptured left Achilles tendon.  Surgery scheduled for the 20th.

Dinnich has an interesting story about Bert reed growing up.

One thing Reed said he wants to make a point of this offseason is "being accountable" with the coaches and his teammates -- running the right routes, and making the right blocks. It's consistency that Reed has struggled with, both on and off the field.

"That's one of the main things with me," Reed said. "It's been that way since I got here. 'He'll do it right three times and he won't do it right one time.' That's been the thing with me -- going to class but then getting that last absence. It correlates off the field and on the field. That's what they always tell me. That's what I'm trying to work on, discipline and doing what's right every time."

Meh.  Bert Reed can be a good slot guy and rub bubble screens.  It would be great if he would stay out of trouble because he's not a thug (I've met him before).  We have some thugs on our team and Bert isn't one of them.  He's the guy who just does stupid stuff.  He also runs his mouth a ton and that gets him in trouble.

Mel Kiper had thoughts on Everette Brown and Drew Weatherford:

ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper, Jr. said star Everette Brown is a 4-3 defensive end could position himself "solidly in the early to mid first round’’ with a good workout at week’s NFLScouting Combine.

When asked if quarterback Drew Weatherford, a three-year starter only to lose his job before the 2008 season and play sparingly this past year, had any shot to make a NFL team, Kiper was succinct:

"I don’t think so. No.’’

Brown is better suited to play OLB in a 3-4.  I discussed that in our scouting report.

I'm so happy that the beat guys can't continue to slobber all over our personable backup quarterback anymore.  Drew will be a good guy in politics.

Amato and Mickey have new contracts while Spetman is at least paying lip service to the urgency of the Trickett situation.  A contract offer is on the table from FSU.

Dr. Saturday has a story about moving marquee games from Saturday to Thursday nights and how it will cripple the Big East, who appears on Thursday night just once after making a living off the exposure from '05-'08

This could apply to every college and high school age kid:
He’s the guy who just does stupid stuff. He also runs his mouth a ton and that gets him in trouble.

Our goal is simple: Best in the land

Kill a fly with an axe -- Mickey Andrews

I think the kid is a good slot WR

who has the potential to be a very good college slot guy. Clearly has great speed and quickness. His hands are average and he’ll probably never become a precision route runner. He’s limited in what patterns he can run and his blocking won’t ever be special. He also holds the ball pretty recklessly.

As a Packers fan,

I hope we are at least considering Everette at the 9 spot to play ROLB in our new 3-4 defense.

As a Bears fan I hope not...

That’s actually not a bad landing spot for EB, as the D won’t be great right away (very tough to adjust on the fly) so you might as well have Everette take his lumps that first year.

Not official, but...

His schoolwork was atrocious. Some of the coaches don’t want him back. I think Corey can be a really good player, but he is a liability. I’d be surprised if he is back. Maybe this will change some things.

Last I "heard"

he was hitting the books hard. I still don’t expect him to get the extra year, though.

No credit? Nooo problem!

Do I recall hearing that he only earned 9 credits last semester? I think it was single digits. I love his story and wish his dreams could come true, but he just ain’t cut out for schoolin’.

Please don't.

But if you have any pieces of writing from Kenny Irons, I’d LOVE to enlighten myself.

wow

That’s a pretty amazing thursday night schedule! Alot of great games. It’s just unfortunate what teams have to go through for these games to get setup and play.

A ruptured Achilles heel.... How long does that take to recover from typically?

I remember people telling me that they take forever.

I ruptured my achilles tendon

very badly, playing football about five years ago. It is no fun. He will be in a cast for 12-14 weeks. Therapy was intensive but not as painful as I thought. I exercise regularly and unfortunately, five years later, it still get stiff sometimes. It did not affect my sprinting on the striaght aways. However, it does affect jumping and cutting. I hope he has a good surgeon – it does make a difference in how the tendon is re-attached. I suppossedly had one of the best surgeopns in Orlando – lucky for me.

An American Olympic gymanst a fw years back won a gold or silver metal one year after the surgery – so it can be done.

Of course Amato and Andrews have new deals.

They had to accept the first offer we gave them. What kind of leverage do they have? Who else would hire Amato and Mickey wouldn’t leave the Old Man out to dry like that.

Trickett has negotiating power. Spetman better get this done or he is dead to me. Maybe the new president will hire someone competent next year.

Don't Drink and Blog

I see this headline and think, sh*t yeah, Amato has resigned. The boys on TN got the message out and got the job done.

Then I realise there’s a hyphen there and I’ve spilled half a beer all over my shirt. Thanks a lot guys.

I nominate this as the funniest post of the week.

I just spit out beer on my laptop.

That is funny

I first looked at Amato re-signed and jumped for joy until I realized it wasn’t true.

Someone said they think Easterling could miss the WHOLE season

Tell me it isn’t so.

Not the most reliable source, though.

We're prenty thin at experienced WRs now...

Aren’t we? Rod Owens and Richard Goodman are the only guarantees right now. Lots of potential, and lots of time for Haulstead and Smith, but still… it’d be nice to have Parker right now. (not that he doesn’t deserve his punishment)

by DA-2 on Feb 15, 2009 3:12 PM EST reply actions

Very much so.

It raises serious questions about the correct use of Downs.

by Bud Elliott on Feb 15, 2009 4:26 PM EST up reply actions

I'm still in favor of Downs playing safety.

He just looks like he could be the ball hawk type safety we have been lacking.

by fsunole23 on Feb 15, 2009 4:34 PM EST reply actions

Did anyone else think

And I feel like a terrible person for thinking this, but what if Easterling did that before signing day….

Anyone else think we might have stolen Dubose?

That said, I wish East the best of luck of getting healthy, for his sake, and ours.

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J.
