Wednesday Tomahawks 2.25.09

There is no recruiting thread today, though you guys are free to turn this comment section into one if you wish.  There will be an awesome recruiting thread next Wednesday.

  • 28% turnovers in the 72-67 loss to Boston College.  That's 60 trips down the floor and 17 turnovers.  See last night's game thread for 600 comments worth of discussion and analysis.  This was a game that FSU should have won.  They looked sloppy, unprepared, undisciplined, and even disinterested at times.
  • A member of our community, "TouchdownChrisDavis" attended the game in Boston and had these thoughts:    Alabi looks real good, when he’s in there good things happen.   Chris Singleton just isn’t good at this point in his career. He’s sloppy and just doesn’t make big things happen. His shot was off and he wasn’t hitting the boards hard at all. Looked lazy too, especially getting back on defense.  Douglas didn’t have his best game but his shot still seemed to be on.  Our bench was weak. Demercy, Louks, Gibson, did did nothing all night. Uche did nothing [Editor's note:  Uche Hurt his back, so we're giving him a pass].  We’re difficult to watch because we are extremely sloppy.  Boston College's crowd stinks as the place was less than half full.
  • I'm hearing that the new surface at the NFL combine may have hurt prospects 40 yard dash times by as much as .05 seconds, but probably more in the range of .02 seconds
  • Redshirt freshman Terrance Parks is playing free safety.  We reported this February 4th.  That was two weeks ago.
  • We also reported that Jamie Robinson will play Corner, his natural position.  He played free safety last year
  • Persistent rumor that Chris Thompson needs to have some sort of foot or ankle surgery.  Please ask around about this to confirm if it is indeed true and if so, what sort of procedure he needs to have.
  • DT Justin Mincey is apparently doing well in the offseason program.  He has immense talent and will be counted on to be a major contributor for the Seminoles.  I would not be surprised to see him begin the season at 285lbs, which is definitely bigger than he was at the end of last season.  No word on whether Mincey (a potential grades casualty) will be able to complete the requirec coursework in spring and summer to remain eligible.
  • Rafael Lopez will be the starting Catcher for the Florida State Seminoles baseball team.
  • Recruiting Teaser:  FSU offered Cornerback Terrence Mitchell (Tampa, Fla./Hillsborough) has picked up an offer from Florida State. The 5-foot-11, 175-pounder also holds offers from South Florida and Rutgers and is getting attention from multiple major schools. Mitchell also runs track for Hillsborough and has been timed as fast as 10.64 seconds in the 100-meter dash. His teammate, quarterback Tarean Austin is a sleeper to watch. The 6-foot-4,200-pounder has a cannon and is getting looks from multiple programs as well. Once colleges find out about this signal caller, he's a safe bet to receiver several scholarships.  Source:  ESPN/ Shurburtt  Re-establishing a significant recruiting presence in Tampa and the bay area after the disastrous years of the Jeff Bowden nepotism era is a huge priority for Jimbo Fisher and staff.
  • Here's an article on what Miami hopes to accomplish in their spring game.
