2010 Recruiting Big Board
- Matt Elam eliminated. Tavaris Barnes removed from committed side.
- Ronald Patrick, Brice Schwab, Zach Fuler added. 01.16.10. 2:20PM.
- Will Tye moved to committed, per ThaRinger.com's twitter page.
- Terrence Mitchell removed from Recruiting Big Board. 01.29.10. 2:30PM.
This is Tomahawk Nation's best estimate of the 2010 Florida State Seminoles recruiting board. We make no representations as to the accuracy of this projection and this board is not affiliated with FSU in any way. We will update this board weekly and it is quite obviously still a work in progress. Please don't ask if we have any premium content for you.
Frequently Asked Questions, by DA-2
1. Who are the early enrollees/Is Jeff Luc still an early enrollee? Jeff Luc began school January 6, as did Debrale Smiley, Amp McCloud, and Clint Trickett.
2. Are CJ Mizell and Willie Downs going to make it to FSU? There has been no new news on CJ Mizell. However, there are reports that Willie Downs may enroll in a school in California, and will reopen his recruitment. With the type of talent he is, I would hope Florida State would bring him in. Still, Florida State may not be his best option to start considering the recruits we have brought in the last two cycles. He may get easy playing time as a JuCo at another school. We will update as it happens.
3. What's the latest on Christian Green? Kids pretty quiet. Still, word coming from other Florida State commits seem to indicate that Green will be a Nole. There's also rumors that Christian Green's mother has said something along the lines of "take care of our boy" to Jimbo Fisher after Fisher watched his playoff game.
4. When will Christian Jones decide? My best guess is National Signing Day. Could happen before, could happen later. Remember that these are 17 year-old kids. With that said, throughout the recruiting process, recruiting analyst have said there's no need to worry about Christian going to the Noles. That still holds true.
5. Is Charles Deas a grades risk? Yes. Very much.
QUARTERBACK
Florida State needs to pick up one quarterback in this upcoming recruiting class. Fisher has found his man.

Son of Offensive Line Coach Rick Trickett. Although he is the son of Rick Trickett, he's expressed numerous times that he doesn't want to play for his father. 03.09. He's impressed many at camps this year. Was the best QB at Seminole Showtime. 07.18.09. Should be an Arkansas Razorback. Remember that we picked off Will Secord from the Razorbacks last year. Running Back
FSU will take between one and three running backs. Look for Fisher to get a bruiser. I firmly believe that Florida State is ok with taking just one back, but there are only three other backs out there that have commitable offers. Mack Brown seems to be the one Florida State wants.

I really want this kid in our class. He is the big back Jimbo wants. Was an all-state selection and named Thomasville Times-Enterprise's Offensive Player of the Year in 2007. Set records at Central for touchdowns in a season (35), touchdowns in a career (81) and rushing yards in a season (2,028). Should be a Nole. Some legendary stuff in South Georgia. 03.03.09. Mack Brown originally committed to Florida during Friday Night Lights. Florida State fans may know him as the blabber. During Friday Night Lights, he let it slip to reporters that Chris Dunkley was a silent to the University of Florida. Then during the Under-Armour game, he announced to reporters that Matt Elam would be switching to Florida State University. Mack Brown hits the home-run well. He also does a great job of falling forward when going down, which gains him extra yards. I think he's a fantastic runner when I look at his film. Does he fit in Florida State's zone running game? I think he could. I see film where he's patient, and once he sees the cutback lane, he nails it. My problem with him is that he still lacks size. I also question if we like Mack Brown, how much different was Eduardo Clements who wanted Florida State early on? |

Says he wants to play WR in college. He played WR his freshman year of high school and had 10 TDs. Really a fantastic athlete. Has great explosion, speed, shakes, and is versatile. We will be tough to beat. Recently proclaimed us the leader and loves FSU WR coach Lawrence Dawsey. Urban Meyer is personally involved in his recruitment. That should tell you something about Green. Film here & here. Green has all the tools to be one of the top receivers in the nation. I personally think he is the top WR prospect in the Southeast. Rivals.com Top 100 (#24). Athletes (#4). Florida Preseason Top 100 (#4). Attended Miami vs. FSU on Labor Day. 09.12.09. He's a pretty tough guy to figure out. He seems quiet, and doesn't like to reveal too much. I think he's trying his best to give UF a chance, but should be a Nole if he's not a Gator by now. Dawsey's relationship plus his mother as well as EG Green should keep the Noles in front. 10.15.09. Some says Florida State-Florida battle (before Urban Meyer fiasco). Others say Florida State-UGA battle. I can't imagine him going to Florida now. Also, there's a pretty credible rumor that his parents said to Jimbo "take care of our son." I really can't see him not being a Nole at this point if he isn't committed elsewhere. 01.05.10. |

TIGHT END/ H-BACK

OFFENSIVE LINE
FSU won't lose any offensive linemen after the 2010 season to graduation. John Prior has left the team, and Aubrey Phillips has been gone since summer. At this point, Florida State's recruitment of Offensive Lineman is an enigma. It is possible that Trickett isn't recruiting anyone, but hopefully he is after losing Prior and Phillips. Trickett likes to see film of players as a senior.

DEFENSIVE LINE
FSU loses End Kevin McNeil, Tackles Budd Thacker, Justin Mincey, and Kendrick Stewart. Additionally, defensive line is a common source of academic problems, so it would be irresponsible not to expect attrition. FSU will likely take 6 defensive linemen, and at least three of those will be over 270lbs. Remember that the weights listed here are from a player's Junior year, in which he was most likely 16 years old. Growth is expected. The clock is ticking for Florida State to get Defensive Line help.

| Welcome back to the board, Corey. He was originally thought to have no chance to Florida State. Whether he was Zooked to Illinois or he was going to stay home at UM, it seemed like Florida State had no chance. However, he seems like he really wants to play with Calvin Smith. Florida State may be one of the few major programs that would take both. Still not confident, but it's back to a possibility. 11.17.09. Officially visited Tennessee. Some people still think Illinoi$ has him, others think FSU leads. A bit hard to figure out. 11.27.09. Florida State seems to be one of three teams still in it for him. The hometown Canes, the great recruiting team of Auburn, and Florida State. The addition of Eddie Gran was great for Florida State. He can sell with the best of them. Was best DL prospect at Orlando UA Combine, in a field with multiple elite prospects. 4.69 40, 4.3 shuttle, and outstanding in position work and one-on-ones. Smart kid too, not a qualifying risk. He is a better prospect than some we have offered. Still extremely raw and lacks technique. Will need some serious coaching. Was highly coveted by North Carolina, and they know defensive linemen. Rivals.com defensive tackle (#27). Florida Preseason Top 100 (#49). Committed 06.22.09. Attended Miami vs. FSU on Labor Day. 09.12.09. Complained about not getting a call from the Noles in a month. The coaching staff soon thereafter contacted him. UNC is still hard on him, and is probably the only team that can flip him. Should still be a Nole. 10.15.09. A top 5 player in the state of Florida. Top 'backer in state. A Mike LB most likely. Amazing highlight video. We have a real good shot here. Said that had we offered earlier, he would have committed. Florida State's idiot linebacker coach Chuck Amato has been rumored to think he is too big. Amato's unit is way too small in actuality and when Jimbo fires him next year our linebacker size will increase. Film Here. Florida and Miami (though they are slipping) will be tough competition. | Harris is long-legged with a good stride and smooth backpedal. These things are what make a fluid CB, a "true" CB rather than a hybrid DB type. He absolutely has the hips to stay at the position, as he has been a stand out player for his Junior college the past year. Many evaluaters liken him to a high 4* or even 5* type of talent. He can have an immediate impact on next year's defense. On top of that he is great in space and one of the most physical corners we have seen. He can play in the league one day. A lock to be in the conversation for best player in the Sunshine State and possibly the nation. Incredible speed, acceleration, hips, explosion, hitting, and instincts. Don't let the 5' 8" stature scare you as he as freakishly long arms and stature (basically of a 6'0 man). A good comparison would be Terrell Buckley. An absolute rare talent that only comes around once every ten years. Best athlete from Florida that I can remember, and the most complete defensive back prospect I've seen since I've followed recruiting. Could be an All American at safety or corner (we are recruiting him as a CB) He loves the 'Noles and Terrell Buckley, who will probably replace Mickey Andrews as defensive backs coach in 2010. This will be a huge fight and we can't afford mistakes. OSU v. FSU battle, with Bama, UF, USC peering in. Rivals.com Top 100 (#14). Cornerbacks (#2). Florida Preseason Top 100 (#3). Film Here. Looks like UF has become the third headed monster. In a recent interview with ESPN, it looks like he'll decide on NSD. 09.15.09. He still loves the Noles, but looks like OSU has put themselves a bit ahead. If NSD was today, I'd expect him to be a Buckeye. The fact that he still has FSU on his list says to me that he's trying to find any hope possible to be a Nole and be able to justify it to himself. 10.15.09. Officially visited 11.21.09. Encouraging quotes from Christian LeMay
LeMay explained that he’s not afraid to wait his turn at the next level, “Playing time is not that big of a deal. When you have a couple of years before you’re in the fire you can help yourself by gaining experience, learning the offense, and just becoming a better player overall.”
The highly-touted junior, who is interested in playing for a team with a pro-style offense, previously lived in Gainesville, Fla.
"It boils down to one of two things: It's either the horses or the jockeys. And we think we have some pretty good horses."

About Lemonier
If we do switch to a 34 by getting Smart, Sunseri or another 34 DC, where would he play if we got him? Would he be the OLB that sometimes puts his hand down and plays 43 DE? He seems to be a little too lean to be the DE or DT or whatever you want to call the defensive linemen in the 34 that isn’t the nose guard.

So what's everyones honest thoughts about Luc?
I have not been as high on him as some people have been. Is he a brutal hitter…yes. Does he have a nose for the football and speed….yes. Still like most people I think he plays the position a little stiff and sometimes does things that make me scratch my head and say hmmmm, especially on angles to the ball carrier. Do I think he is a bust…no. He might be the highest rated lb in Florida, but I think Christian Jones might have a better career.
by 1newplayer on Dec 6, 2009 4:08 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
He will be a true middle LB people may say he will be a bust and so on but a True middle LB fills the middle and takes on the blockers and thats were you will see Jones and Bradaham and Carr make tackles. So in that saying luc might not have those outstanding numbers in the tackling game but be for sure he will be doing his job and we wont be getting gashed up the middle with the run anymore!!!!

I just want to make a point.
Just because we have recruited well at a school doesn’t mean we’re going to get every recruit from that school. I realize that there’s schools like Miami Northwestern for UM, and Lincoln back in the day for us. Still, that doesn’t mean every kid from Pahokee, Lowndes, Treasure Coast, Byrnes has to go to Florida State. I’m reading some other board, and I’m amazed at how baffled some people are that every kid from Lowndes high school isn’t a lock to Florida State. We successfully recruited two of them in the class of 2009. Recruiting a school helps (among other things), but it’s not a guarantee.

Any chance that the departure of Coach Trickett will cause his QB son to decommit and go play for daddy? And are we worried about QB recruiting right now?
I bleed Garnet and piss Gold.
by DutchFSU on Dec 10, 2009 2:28 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Personally I don't think Trickett gets the job at Marshall.
You never know though. Clint is a regular fixture on campus and is pretty much a solid commit. Currently at qb we have Ponder who starts next year. Then you have EJ Manuel who will have 2 years to start. So that is 3 years locked up. We also have Secord on campus who has some serious mechanics issues and of course is a lefty which changes our Oline protection. I think we have one more qb as well. Becker is his name I think? I’m not worried about qb’s honestly at least not right now. We have Trickett signed and another name being thrown around is Georgia based Hutson Mason. Next year a name being thrown around we are going to chase is QB/RW Jarrard Randall. FSUSOM mentioned him in the last recruiting update. QB is the least of our worries right now, but expect 2-3 more qb’s to be signed in the next 2 years as we will need some sort of viable backup to Manuel.

"Premium"?
At the top of this board is information about some officials. Didn’t know how recently it was updated and if anyone had any info. Official visits are not classified info. They are planned in advance. Should be subject to disclosure through Florida’s Sunshine Law. I think there are some guys like Akuna and Deas who haven’t taken officials. Was just curious since some of these out of state guys might want to see the place before they commit. WC, which makes all of the recycled TN content “premium”, doesn’t even make officials classified. I can look up Akuna and see that he has an official scheduled w/ Arkansas of 12/18. Since TN gets the news earlier, wasn’t sure if we knew who was coming and when.
I guess that there’s some talk of Lattimore switching around his official visit schedule. Don’t know if FSU is in the mix, particularly after Genron’s comments. Maybe after Luc & Joyner, some guys will reconsider FSU and scheduling a visit is one sign of that.

Not too surprising
TT got a nice thing going in FL with the McRoys and with WR Kadron Boone from this year also.
Been mentioned a lot that they would play at the same school. To me this is the best offer that Ben has (thus far) → I’d rate TT ahead of USF.
Only thing is timing to me, unless Ben is an EE (not 100%) I thought they’d wait as long as possible to see if one of the big 3 would eventually pull the trigger and offer Ben.
Good luck to those 2 in Lubbock. I know a guy (one of my boxing friends) who’s a Red Raider, and when I let him know about these 2 (in addition to Boone) he’ll be happy.

While I like those two as players, neither are immediate contributors to our depth. It is rare to see early playing time on the DL, but it is more likely for DE’s to be able to do so. We need help at DE and our options are running out, IMO. Lemonier is becoming more and more important.

Also don’t know if he had any connection to Fla. or if he just wants to be a Turd b/c he thinks he’s got a good shot to be on a NC team. Could be that he liked Stoops but didn’t think AZ would have a shot at getting a NC. Strong & Gonzalez leaving might create some openings. All of this is probably just wishful and desperate thinking to find out where we might find some good DEs. Jimbo & Co. have been full of surprises since BB announced. I fully expect more to come.

Let's hope Genron was right yesterday (12/12).
Man you all dont know how happy LJ is about this decision. He’s happy it’s over. You know he’s been recruited for a 1 1/2 now and he felt it was time to end it. OSU dropped the ball and FSU recruited very well and closed awesome. I always loved Cooley and fisher. Now let’s pull in Elam and Jones. Green could be in as well. Oh yeah, Corey Miller is a lock. You heard it hear 1st
I was told Miller was in by coach O. Coach said he never left. Now for FSU to still be in it for Elam is huge. He was all UF but like i said Jimbo said dont be surprised about Elam.

Who has a better line? Datko & Hudson.
Where will he get the most recognition? FSU.
If you were a TE, where would you go? Auburn, ole Miss, or FSU? FSU.
But hell, I think everyone should want to come to FSU.

I don't like to predict.
I think FSU has a great shot, especially with Caz out. I also think that some people always overestimate their team’s talent compared to the others. Sure we have Ponder and Manuel. But I’m sure Auburn is selling that they have Tyrik Rollison (2nd best QB from 2009 behind Barkley) and Ole Miss is selling Jevan Snead. Both teams can sell that they play in the SEC. FSU can definitely sell that they are on a higher tier in terms of football prestige. FSU does have a great shot with his last OV being here, but don’t ever get your hopes up too much in recruiting.

True about hopes in recruiting
I don’t think we would be selling that SEC has better defense and O numbers are likely higher in the ACC. But we could sell that our O was 8, while Auburn was 23 and Miss was 33 (FEI). Plus, we have just about the whole O coming back. Miss is losing 7 starters. Auburn is losing their 1000 yd rusher.
We could also point out that we have a great shot with Stoops coming in & Spiller & Ford leaving Clemson to make it to the ACCCG & possible BCS bowl. Snowball’s chance in hell of that happening with Miss & Auburn.

Tyrik Rollison 2nd best QB from 2009 behind Barkley?
I thought he dropped pretty far in the rankings during his last year. At one point alot of folks thought he was headed to OK St. but they supossedly backed off. I know we recruited him early but never offered him.

I made a mistake. He was the second best dual-threat quarterback.
Went off the top of my head. Still, there’s Matt Barkley, Russell Sheppard, Tyrik Rollison and Garrett Gilbert who are the talked about as the best in the class of 2009. Tyrik Rollison probably has the same appeal as EJ Manuel at this point.

Yeah I Barkley and Gilbert were definately the best Pro-Style prospects last year
Russell dosen’t seem accurate enough to be an elite QB prospect right now. I don’t know a whole lot about Tyrik’s QB skill set but E.J. has a good 3 or 4 inches in height on him. From the descrptions I’ve read on Rollison game I pictured him more in the mold of Tyrod Taylor or Tajh Boyd.

I don''t see why we'd even go after those two.
If we needed two guys/DTs like those, I’m sure we could just land Kirksey & McNeil. Bigger news is that Willis is likely leaving and word is that Miller is looking around. Tenn commits are getting a bit scared of the NCAA inquiry. Many have said that there is no way we get Miller. They’re probably right. Coach Genron was pretty possitive that Miller is coming to FSU. It was a shock when I read it, so maybe that’s why it’s difficult to shake. I don’t expect anything will come from Genron’s prediction. But if 3 other DLs are leaving, it does add a little hope.

Well he has OVs w/ USCe, Oregon, & Ga. scheduled for Jan., w/ Ga. being the last one. When was it that all these SC kids bolted? I’m wondering if it was before or after Smith said it was time for Bobby to go. I suspect it was either that or Spurrier stirring something up to try to protect his own turf. The Vols suspect Spurrier of reporting their hoes to the NCAA. Maybe it has something to do with rumors of the NCAA giving Bobby his wins back and putting stricter sanctions on the team?? Something happened there and I’d like to know what it is and who’s responsible.

I think Manuel is fine. Arm strength is not a concern.
Trying to put the perfect touch on a pass or being unsure with reads and hesitating/doubting his ability are all part of his problem and all are directly related to inexperience.
by tricknole on Dec 19, 2009 4:10 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I'm a bit concerned as well.
(I assume we’re sticking with a 4-3 since this is Mark Stoops’s normal defense). Next year, we really only have three NG/DT’s ready as of now. McDaniel, McCloud and McCray. I’m going to assume Dawkins moves back to DE, and McAllister is forced to move inside. If one of the three true DT’s I mentioned gets hurt, we could be in serious trouble. There could be huge playing time for Damien Jacobs (ala Jacobbi McDaniel this year) coming off the bench at NG. Ideally McAllister, Cummings, Dawkins play SDE, but there’s a chance that they may have to play DT if our thin DT position doesn’t add someone. I too am not confident on Deas, and I can’t think off the top of my head of any NG size big man ready to play on FSU’s radar. Not to mention, two of those three crucial big men have medical conditions. Who knows. I place a hell of a lot more emphasis on stopping the run than stopping the pass. DE isn’t exactly secure, either, but a lot rides on Jacobbi McDaniel. I think his ability to stay healthy, and show his 5 star rating will go a ton towards fixing this defense.

Ace Sanders?
I see he’s listed on the big board as “Some Interest – no offer” at WR. Why have we not offered this kid?
I live in Manatee County and, like most people, was surprised Manatee beat Joyner’s team last week. Sanders had like 2 catches for 96 yards and a TD… obviously against good competition.
He’s a 4* according to Rivals and they also had him as the 5th best YAC receiver. I know Green is a stud but is Shaw really better? It just seems like this is going to be another kid that is going to be playing with a chip on his shoulder when we play against USF in 2012 and we’ll be wondering “why didn’t we offer this kid?” after he burns us.

You can't offer...
every good WR. You can’t. The average fan wants to sign 15 WR and 15 RB every year, but you need bodies at the physical positions (OL & front 7 on D). FSU hasn’t done that and payed a price for it.

Quite a prospect, eh?
I admit to only watching the first half of the 5A championship game. I can’t sit through a whole blowout if I don’t really root for either team. I definitely was extremely impressed with his ability to play RB. He was a hard guy to bring down, and lowered his shoulder very well. His father played RB for the Buccaneers, correct? Unfortunately though, he’s too tall for RB. I don’t know of any 6’3 RB. He’s going to have to play LB or DE here (if he does come here). I wasn’t as impressed with his ability to play DE (although he had a sack) as I was his ability to play RB. I’ll look up more film to see what more of an opinion I can make on him. My best guess is that he’s a LB at the next level.
What are your thoughts, ItaliaNole? Were you impressed by his performance?

Living in Tampa and having had Plant’s HC Robert Weiner as a teacher of mine at Jesuit, I really follow Plant and how they do. From reading the paper you see Wilder mentioned an awful lot every Saturday morning about pounding the opponent. I think he could fit very well as a LB, especially if he spends his time perfecting and practicing that position alone, and vice versa for a DE. I made a post on WC about his run tonight against Manatee where he leveled like 3 guys en route to the 40 yard TD run, all that needed to be said was “Wilder just Greg Jones’d their asses!”

Why don't you just face the fact that OSU sucks.
Joyner made the decision, not Genron. Genron loves Stoops b/c he’s a Cane fan and Stoops used to coach some of the greats there in their glory days. He also loves Eddie Gran, our new RB caoch that we swiped from UT as well as our RC, Coach Coley. Anyone can see with the flurry of recruits that flocked to us once Bowden announced and with our new coaches, that everyone should Fear the Spear.
OSU had nothing to offer except cold weather. Even if OSU had paid Genron, Joyner would still be a Nole.

Hello
Helloooo butt brain. LOL. why you talk about stuff you dont know about or have a clue. it’s funny to me. But to shut your tiny rupp up let me school you DUDE. I have directly affected the lives of over 100 young inner men. Have gotten them over 50 college offers, but more than that just to graduate HS. When schools come down here they call me for my opinion on some players. 1-AA? I sent 8 in one year to 1-AA. But forget about that, watch what I do this year. Fuk 1-AA, i gets guys Div-1 offers. Guys under the radar and on top of the radar. I have already gotten 6 offers for 6 players I just meet 1 month ago. I do not get paid, and YES im in it for me.-For me to be a better person to help someone else out like I was helped when i was young. To keep them off the street and out of the fuking jail cell. To be honest, and you can talk and say whatever afterward, but Fuk anything you have to say or think. You dont know me or what the heck these kids go through down here. You dont know the hard work it takes to keep kids in school, get them eligible, making sure they have something to eat, and stopping them from swaying away, selling drug or getting a female pregnant. . You dont know anthing about this environment down here. You dont know nothing about Lamarcus, Todd Chandler, Teddy B. or the countless unnamed. You cant stay in the gutter LJ stayed in, you cant stay one night Teddy B apartment. You wont even take your butt around there. So shut your mouth about things you have no clue about. Keion Payne and Tony Grimes were nobodies in the recruiting world until they meet me. You damn right i think it’s about me. Updated mock class as of 12/29
Sorry for the delay everyone. Hope the holidays have been good to you!
QB: Clint Trickett
RB: Debrale Smiley
WR: Christian Green
WR: Kenny Shaw
WR: Jared Haggins
WR: DJ Johnson
TE: Tank Sessions
TE: Will Tye
OL: Trickett guy
OL: Trickett guy
DE: Corey Lemonier
DE: Tavaris Barnes
DE: Darious Cummings
DT: Amp McCloud
DT: Cameron Erving
DT: Damien Jacobs
DT: Jermaine Brooks
DT: Eric Young
LB: Christian Jones
LB: Jeff Luc
LB: Holmes Onwukaife
LB: Shaydon Akuna
LB: Telvin Smith
CB: Terrence Brooks
CB: Greg Dent
CB: Mike Harris
CB: Terrence Mitchell
S: Lamarcus Joyner
S: Chad Abrams
Total: 29
Notes:
-I am so, so tempted to put Elam in this class as my long shot, but I think the fact that he’s no longer an EE will actually help UF more than FSU. I think he stays a Gator.
-Added Will Tye, who will likely be a sign-and-place. Comparison I’ve heard from others: Brandon Warren. Have also been informed he might be looked at as a LB.
-My long shot is still Lemonier though my head still says don’t get your hopes up.
-Took Jeremy Deering off based on what some of the USCe guys have told me. 7 DBs is too high (unless Elam comes on board) without knowing of transfers yet.
-Replaced Bjoern Werner with Eric Young. Werner hasn’t set anything up with FSU to my knowledge while Young has.
-Sticking with Akuna over Terrell at this time, though there’s a shot they may both be in the class.
-I still think Trickett takes two OL, particularly with the current uncertainty around Prior.

That list looks great, though I still doubt Lemonier.
Interesting with Akuna, seems like there’s been enough smoke there recently and that his comments have the makeup of our new “win with character” guys that it will eventually pan out.
Great point on Elam, I think you’re right that it helps UF but IMO it is fully 50-50 game between noles and gates which is much better than any time before.

Was Brooks thrown in there because you think we need a 5th DT and he’s the most likely player the coaches will land? I read somewhere that Young said we are his leader, so that’d make 4 DT if he signs. Who are other candidates for #5 if we go for a 5th?
What about Werner at OL? Any names at all popping up at this spot?
And, at this time, what makes you think Terrell decommits and Akuna commits?
by tricknole on Dec 29, 2009 3:37 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I didn't throw Brooks in there, he was in my last mock. I threw Young in there as the 5th, he'd be the most likely GS candidate
I’m not even bothering with OL right now. I will get more serious on that in mid-January. Anything I’d predict right now would probably be wrong. There are names under the last mock to watch.
I have heard from a couple of people that the new coaches might be going a different direction from Terrell. I’ve always thought he was least talented of all the commits at LB, others disagree. If Akuna makes it to campus, I think he’s a Nole.

I’m not sold on either Akuna or Terrell, but would like to land both. Need some LB depth with us losing 3 LB (Watson graduates, Gresham and Harris may be medically disqualified, who knows if Williams will be alright) and the fact that the ones we have aren’t that great.

I think you (or someone) made a post with a link to some blog where a mere member said that Joyner was sucking it as a CB and that he should play S. I probably got that confused w/ SoFLAfootball, unless they were one and the same.
All I’ve seen is one report that Da’Rick Rogers got away from LJ on one play. Rogers will make an immediate impact at Ga. as a frosh. Considering Joyner hasn’t been playing corner in HS and he is going up against the best WRs in the country, I would say he is doing phenomenal if he only gave up one catch or two catches all day (I think SWFLnole said Shaw got seperation once.)

Yes. I posted a link to that site.
And I don’t recall myself or the site saying he was sucking it up, but perhaps I did. Don’t remember. Don’t care.
The site said he was struggling and was a physical corner. That he may be better suited at WR or S. Whether he struggled or not is up for debate, I guess. As I said, I couldn’t watch the practice.

SIAP, sofla top 75 of 2011 per soflafootball.com (december 28)
http://www.soflafootball.com/feature/soflafootball-top-75-for-2011
Top 10:
1. Kelvin Benjamin 6′6″ 215 WR Glades Central: Benjamin continues to progress each time he steps on the field. His speed, athleticism, routes and hands have all seen improvements over the course of the year. Benjamin’s size not only provides a huge target for quarterbacks, but also makes it difficult for defenders to bring him down.
2. Teddy Bridgewater 6′2″ 175 QB Miami Northwestern: Bridgewater’s athleticism and elusiveness in the pocket is second to none. He still needs to refine his passing skills and limit mistakes, but Bridgewater has the tools to be great once he does.
3. Curt Maggitt 6′3″ 205 DE Dwyer: Maggitt’s calling card is that explosive first step he displays each snap. He is relentless getting after the quarterback, and he utilizes his superb athleticism and surprising strength to get past blockers.
4. Nick O’Leary 6′3″ 225 TE Dwyer: O’Leary is a versatile weapon on the field with his size, speed, body control and superb hands. The toughness and nastiness he brings to the field help O’Leary when he’s asked to be a blocker.
5. Bryant Dubose 6′4″ 235 DE Northeast: Dubose is a solid pass rusher along with being good against the run. He has a great build and moves well for a defensive lineman.
6. Ricardo Williams 6′5″ 210 DE Homestead: Williams may be lean, but he does get after the quarterback. He still needs to polish up his pass rush technique, but his athleticism and wing span helped rack up 13 sacks in his junior season.
7. Bobby Hart 6′4″ 265 OT St. Thomas Aquinas: Hart showed flashes of his talents this season, his first playing offensive line. He moves his feet well and has good size, but Hart still needs improvement on his technique. Hart will still be 15 years old once fall practice for his senior season begins.
8. Wayne Lyons 5′11″ 190 S Dillard: Lyons runs well, can deliver big hits, and is good in coverage. His intangibles off the field bolster his value as well.
9. Phillip Dorsett 5′10″ 165 WR St. Thomas Aquinas: Dorsett seems to be good for one jaw dropping play per game. He runs crisp routes, has good speed, and is a dependable receiver.
10. Kevin Grooms 5′10″ 165 CB/RB South Broward: Grooms does a little bit of everything toting a bulk of the carries on offense, covering the opposing teams top defender, as well as returning punts and kicks. His best position at the next level will probably be cornerback.

Yes, he's the guy.
His RB coach is also leaving to take a job elsewhere. That also has pushed this along. I think he also may have heard all the talk of how little sense the whole Meyer situation made and how unstable it was.
by tricknole on Jan 5, 2010 10:17 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
He's a good back but he's not the second coming IMHO.
I’d take him but I would have also took Eduardo. Just being realistic with the amount of schollies you can have at TB. Pressley has a year left and Ty Jones seems to be falling behind of the depth chart, so you could make a case for him. Just saying Smiley would have been plenty for this cycle. Brown’s good don’t get me wrong but he’s not the type of power back we’ve been trying to acquire. But with Smiley in the fold and the back we got locked up for ’11 we do have a couple of bigger backs now.
by nappygoat on Jan 2, 2010 11:13 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Brown isn't the second coming and I never said he was
but you are seriously underestimating the kid. You don’t turn Brown away if he wants to commit, and he’s a hell of a lot more talented than Pressley or Jones.

Yeah you didn't, hope I didn't come off making it sound like you were
If I did my apologies. As far as his talent goes, yeah I definately think he’s more talented than Press or Jones but we only have so much room. I actually like him alot as a prospect but I do think alot of his strengths are similar to some of the backs we already have. That’s not a bad thing like I said earlier I would personally take him, Eduardo or a couple other of the top all purpose type backs this year. But it seems with the depth we have at RB we were being pretty selective with the HB position this year in the type of backs we were targeting this cycle (at least early on) Lattimore, Malcome, Gainer, etc. But with Eddie coming in and with these guys senior seasons behind them plus another year of evaluating are own guys maybe we adjusted what were looking for in a back this cycle, decided we take antoher all purpose type guy, or saw there was a good player out there for the taking and said what the hell, lol.

It's all good
personally I’m excited about the possibility of adding Brown. Honestly l was a little bumed we passed on Clements early on and just focused mostly on bigger backs but I understood where the staff was coming from in terms of roster limits. I think another angle I didn’t really consider in why Jimbo was focusing his attention mostly on bigger guys early on was just wanting to cover his bases in case Smiley couldn’t make it in, which is the prudent thing to do when dealing with JUCO guys. But once he got Smiley in he might have taken a broader look at the running back landscape and decided to make a run at him. Whatever the case, I’m a little suprised but excited he decided to, Mack’s a good player.

yeah, sucks when coaches and parents try to pressure kids
and don’t let them make choices that impacts their lives a heck of a lot more than the people pressuring them. Their is no logical reason to pressure a kid to go to a school especially one with alot of question marks around the state of the football program right now, his coach should be ashamed of his self and so should Meyer for trying to guilt a kid and his family into a decision that he’s not comfortable with just in case he might can return to coach in the future.. I thought it was kinds strange that wer were late getting in on Gerald Christian consdiering we were his favorite team and Coley’s recrutis down there but now I’m starting to think that was no accident either. Dwyer’s coach probably shields kids from non UFag coach’s and undereports intrest, offers and information from other schools. He would not be the first coach to do this.

sounds good to me
—is mack brown just a hunch?
—what exactly don’t the coaches like about nigel terrell?
—why is Trickett’s recruiting so mysterious? We seem to know a lot about every other position, but I can’t even think of a single rumor regarding any OL. Is Trick the 007 of recruiting?
by Nole2005 on Jan 3, 2010 5:23 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Brown is more than a hunch. Have heard a couple of things that opened my mind to the possibility, then thought about it: if we get him on campus for a visit, with Luc and Elam already enrolled, combined with Fisher, Coley, Stoops, and Gran recruiting him…. that’s a pretty powerful combo IMO. If we don’t get him on campus for a visit, he won’t be here.
I’ve heard the new coaches are going a different way, but that was before Hudson was confirmed. I’m not too hot on Terrell like others are.
I haven’t included a name in the OL class because I have no sources on where Trick is looking and I don’t want to mislead anyone or throw out some stupid prediction. I listed some names on a previous mock, but those were based off of the size numbers consistent with Trickett recruits.

Ivan McCartney - anyone heard if we are going after him
Wide receiver Ivan McCartney could be interesting to follow in the coming weeks. A source said Monday that McCartney is very, very interested in Florida State and wouldn’t mind taking an official visit to Tallahassee. However, the Seminoles haven’t been recruiting him as hard as others. McCartney has already taken official visits to West Virginia, Oregon and Florida and will take an official to Miami on Jan. 29. A fifth official could occur the weekend of Jan. 22 to either Florida State, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina or South Florida. If the Seminoles turn up the heat, they could possibly jump up into the mix with Miami and West Virginia. Florida seems to be fading fast according to sources and the long distance to Oregon is a drawback for the Ducks. Perhaps one of the reasons why the Seminoles aren’t pursuing McCartney as hard as some would expect is the sizeable lead they now have for athlete Christian Green.

Can someone break down our inability to recruity DL?
From everything Ive always read and heard, players love Haggins and recruits speak highly of him. But as of late, it seems we can not get any of the big time DL recruits.
I was skimming Rivals list of DTs and DEs and it seems like FSU isnt even in the picture on most. The highest guy left is Ferguson, and I havent heard anything to convince me the Noles have a chance with him.
You’ve got some good DTs in GA that FSU isnt even on their “radar.”

The all Central Florida 1st team running back
RB Shontrelle Johnson
DeLand, 5-10/180, Sr.

From Orlando Sentinel
DeLand running back Shontrelle Johnson has had a couple of days now to think about his scholarship offer from the Florida Gators.
“They want me to play DB,” Johnson said. “I’m a running back. I run the ball. That’s what I do.”
And with that, Johnson also said his Iowa State commitment, which he made last weekend, remains firm…..
Johnson had said he would accept an offer to Florida State if that happened, but he seems set on nothing coming of that.
“I don’t know about that,” he said. “That’s just … you know, I’m committed.”
Seems like he would jump at us but do we need/want him?

Delvin Jones
Sorry if this has already been discussed but i didnt want to dig through the whole conversation.
Anyway, I just watched this kids video and he is very impressive. I have heard there are grade issues (not sure how true they are) and it is late in the season so i hope we can steal him. However, this kid has a motor that doesn’t quit. He looks to have played all over the line and maybe even some linebacker in high school. His initial burst off the line reminds me of Jacobbi and re runs like a linebacker. In the video he looked to be a very sure tackler and even when he was only able to get one hand on a guy he could hold them up or take them down.
My point is given our lack of depth at d-line i think our coaches need to go after him hard (they may already be doing so). We should take a chance on him even if there are grade issues because he has great potential and if he can make it in he may be able to make contributions from the get-go.
What are your thoughts?

list (IMHO)
Who I believe will commit:
Christian Jones OLB (Family ties to FSU may eventually get him if Kiffin’s lies don’t first)
Christian Green WR
Corey Lemonier DE (Biggest threat evidentally is Auburn. He’d be crazy to go to Miami considering their class is substandard and does not bode well for the future)
Jeremy Deering ATH (Underrated “upside” prospect is a borderline must get for Noles)
Todd Chandler DT (Not sure how much we would want him considering Miami pulled his offer over character concerns. We may be a fallback option due to situation at USF)
Will Tye TE (May be just a formality after his visit)
Other recruits we are looking at:
Demar Dorsey S (Don’t know if staff would want due to baggage. Was an early Nole lean reportedly)
Mack Brown RB (Will be at UF,Urban’s lies will see to it. Reminds me a bit of Clinton Portis)
Tavaris Barnes (De-commited and went with Clemson. TN staff believes we can get him back but no one knows how inclined they are to pursue even though he’s at a position of need)
Corey Cooper S (I think he ultimately goes to Illinois)
Ivan McCartney WR (Wants to go to Miami but is a qualifying risk. I’d say WVU is more feasible)
Calvin Smith DT (Tennessee de-commit. Noles were second on his list but I feel he will commit to Alabama instead once he visits campus and gets sold on their work with interior lineman)
Notes:
If we are able to land our top three targets (Jones, Green, and Lemonier, that will solidify us with a top 6-8 Class (conservative estimate) getting us past Georgia in the rankings I believe. We may be top ten already once DT commit Cameron Erving’s rating comes back from Rivals. Could perhaps slide into top five if we take McCartney and Dorsey but we probably won’t do better than Bama’s haul of two 2* players and twelve 4* players.

Lemonier is not looking too good
Miami might lead
Sounds like Corey could be done with visits and is trying to shut it down.

Miami? Since when?
Most Miami fans were already conceding him, and it was just the Auburn guys still talking about landing him.

I think Warchant had something about it...
Not a premium member, but on the premium recruting board, one of the threads said Lemonier silent to the Canes. But I dont know who posted it, or anything about it.

5th ranked DT in Connecticut?
Not too sure I’m excited about putting 2 eggs from Salisbury High (Conn) into our basket. But maybe they just aren’t getting any respect due to where they’re from. Anyway…at least this guy has somewhat decent size. This class is very petite so far…

Agreed
I like this class….but it’s very smallish. Aside from Luc and Cummings…all of the “elite” talent on our board is under 185 lbs. 5 of our ‘Top 10’ fall in the 150-165 lb range. I’m sure some will disagree…but it concerns me.

Corey Cooper
Cooper only at 5% even with his relationship with Stoops. I thought Stoops was the major factor in him considering the Wildcats to begin with? I’m not real familiar with his overall recruitment but do you think his relationship with Stoops, paired with our need at S, and the potential for early PT, puts him at a slightly higher % than 5?
Personally, I’m actually pulling for this kid, but for the sake of being informed, what are the knocks on this kid in your opinion?

RE: his relationship with Stoops
I don’t put much stock into it. Stoops couldn’t get him to commit to Arizona, Cooper was previously committed to Illinois. I don’t know how strong of a relationship they have. I just think FSU is late to the party on this one and we won’t get him, thus 5%. If Stoops can get him on campus for a visit then I would raise the percentage but I still believe we won’t get him.
Deering will round out the DB class imo, and I would take Deering before Cooper.

I am thinking maybe Werner by tomorrow also
Most of them are hooked by the time they have toured the FSU campus
" Fisher’s approach to building a winner is lifted from Saban’s playbook. Right down to the terminology such as becoming more "process oriented" as opposed to "results oriented."

While Werner is on campus
Coley should warn him that if he is considering Oregon, the idyllic evergreens and snow capped mountains may seem enticing but they are a death trap. The area is surrounded by some of the largest strato volcanos on the planet, Mount Baker, Shasta, Rainier just to name a few. You have the San Andreas fault to the south and the Wasatch fault to the east not to mention Yellowstone. This is no small matter as we have just witnessed a 7,2 quake south of Florida and the northern rotational axis of the planet is moving toward Siberia at a rate of 37 miles per year.
Our own American indian seer Sun Bear of the Bear tribe warned that when little sister (Mount St. Helens) speaks, big brother soon answers (Mount Rainier) and he said before he died a few years back that when Rainier went it would take out everything from there to the coast and volcanic ash would fall even in Florida.
I would hate to see a foreign exchange student placed in that situation without knowing all the facts. Can someone alert Coley on this and warn the kid before it is too late?

I'm sure our staff has put DL as the #1 focus...
…in the final stretch up to NSD. Maybe they’ve got a trick up their sleeve. Anyway…Ferguson appears somewhat weak…the guy can barely bench more than his own body weight (if the stats are correct).
