DT Delroy Steele. From Apopka, FL. Will go to Apopka HS this year. 6'2'' 261. Nasty, nasty, nasty film. Great explosion off the ball. He stood out at the Under Armour combine in Orlando. I want this kid in our class.

Guy likes good would like to see him at DE with that speed.
Doesnt seem strong and plays too fast. The other teams seem to ether not pick him up or hes jumping the snap on some plays. Could be evil on the end with the DT we have coming in.

I could take a DL class of:
(projections)
DE Tavaris Barnes
DE Corey Miller
DE David Perry (don’t believe the UF update)
DT Darious Cummings
DT Brandon Willis
DT Delroy Steele OR Richard Ash
DT Amp McCloud
I have a bad feeling about UF and Ash, though. Could we take 8 DL? I don’t think so.

why not all the DT we have could play DE
I would love to see us go get some 6’5 300+DT. I dont care if they are slow and 3* cal players. I guess FSUn got in my head about the size thing. All I hear from the spring stuff is how the offense killd the Def. I think more teams next year will run more zone read agenst us like BC did and Im not sure we will stop it. To many peole want the tackel and no one wants to play there position. So yes why not try to go after 8DT maybe we can get 2 or 3 to go with Jacobbi McDaniel, Demonte McAllister, and Brandon Jenkins (Im thinking he will move to OLB or LB) we are going to need more people to help with stoping the run. I know the people we are looking at wont be here tell 2010 but Im looking at going top 10 in 2011-2012.

There aren't many 6'5' 300 DTs around. Most of them are playing in Hawaii in February.
275 – 290 is plenty big enough for a DT.

My point, before I accidentally hit "enter", was that they rarely are great at that size in college
if often takes them a few years to get it in the NFL even.
so we want to get someone that can grow into a bigger size.
so going after a 5’10 or 5’11 DT that is 275lb would really be a bad thing. you would rather go after someone taller with more brouder shoulders to carry the weight from both the fat and muscle they should gain. Im just trying to understand the ideas behind this.

I know Im use to NCAA for the PS3
I know its not a real think to want someone that big also the health problems that would come with it. would be nice to get some DT that are 6’4 + though.

There can be a lot of leverage problems with DTs above about 6'2''.
It takes a special player to be very tall and play DT.
ganhki, you seen this kid? evaluation?
I’m really excited about his burst.

What's the level of competition he's facing?
It doesn’t seem like the O-line tries to block him very much. He does have a great jump off the snap, though.

Apopka plays some top competition. They will go against Lake Brantley and Lake Mary, who put some 4 and 5 stars into the NCAA. They MAY play against Seminole also, but I am not sure on that one. My point is that APK plays a lot of great teams and that is what makes this film pretty amazing to watch.
arnt they a 4A school.
Its not a big one but they have some good teams in they group.

Apopka plays good teams
their rivalry with edgewater is intense. He should see some good action this coming season. Ill see what i can dig up about the schedule for next season. my little sister still goes to apopka. im sure i can get some information somehow.
I do know one thing the coaching is very strict there.
if you have discipline problems even if the star of the team you wont get played. if we get him after he’s been at apopka we shouldnt see too many discipline issues.
Isn't this film from his time at Agape Christian, though?
I just want to make sure we bring in guys who can dominate against top competition

I think the uniforms are blue and white with the Michigan helmet.

That is film of him playing at Apage Christian.

Apopkas colors are blue and white with helmets that are the same as michigan but white instead of yellow
this footage is from agape.
Just had time to watch the video now...
Three things stand out:
1. He does have excellent burst. His first step is something that will translate no matter the competition level. He’s definitely a 4-3 tackle prospect with that initial quickness. He can penetrate into the backfield against slower guards at will.
2. His frame is maxed out. He’s not particularly long or rangy so what you see is what you get. He isn’t going to be able to hold much more weight than he has on now. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing..it just means that he’s going to have to play at 265-275 and use that quickness.
3. Before you offer, you need to see how he handles being run at. This video shows a plethora of pass plays and outside runs, but not enough video of him being targeted in the running game. That’s to be expected as most high schools run away from the good defensive tackle that’s causing you trouble. But a college is going to need to get an evaluation from a full game, either by gametape or live eval.
He isn’t going to be a headliner tackle because of his frame limitations. He is someone you take with the intention of putting him next to that big time tackle prospect. Then you have something in the middle. I would put him in the “wait and see” column for now.
Resident Josh Freeman fan.

Bingo. Can he stuff and shed?
Nice assessment.
Again, I like this kids fundamental football skill foundation that is demonstrated in this particular highlight film.
As a defensive tackle, your goal is to get into and control the offensive lineman, occupy the gap and occupy the offensive linemen in the vicinity, not allowing them to get clean to the backers. This kid gets off the ball very quick, even when he doesn’t guess the snap count. This film looks good because he’s in the backfield before the guards are even out of their stance. Again, small sample size so be careful in thinking this is how he plays every snap in every game.
He’s very aggressive in his pursuit of the ball and I like that. A lot of defensive tackles don’t have that natural nose for the ball once it gets outside the defensive ends. Inside out pursuit is key.
I would like to see better use of his hands. It seems that on a majority of the plays he is able to split the gap and use his strength to get through the line. He isn’t handling the offensive lineman; he gets past them with that first step and in a lot of those plays they are reaching for him. How does he do when he gets locked up? Can he keep separation and keep the OLine’s hands off him?
Again, a ton of potential here and I agree he isn’t going to be your stud nose tackle. I see him in more of the 3 technique, shooting the gaps and occupying linemen.
I would love to see him on our team for sure. I don’t think he’ll be someone who starts or contributes from day one, but he will build into a talented player.
I really want to see how he does once he moves away from this tiny Christian school and is back at Apopka
On another note, this kid (Miami commit) does a great job with his hands.
So does this guy (Texas)
TC, in this week’s WORT, (in editorial section), i added the part about our next possible center prospect.
Well, if all goes according to plan, we will have that "big time tackle prospect" to possibly play along side Steele.

I live in Apopka
Ill make sure to check him out this season as well as try and pick up any buzz on him.
Some of them it's obvious, some of them he isn't.

Before I get excited about this kid.....
do any of you know if we’re going to offer this kid and if so, when?
It doesn’t seem like he has any major offers at this point. What’s the catch?
It looks like the gaytors lead for Ash!
I hope we’ll be one of Steele’s first big offers, if Jimbo and co. indeed likes this kid as much as you guys do.
This kid kind of reminds me of Gary Brown and we all know where he ended up.
I stand corrected
This is good news though.
Who would you take? Ash or Steele?
Ash by a mile because we know how he performs against quality talent
I want to see what Steele does once he faces the big boys again.
Sorry for jumping you like that. I just wanted to nip that as soon as I could. It seems some Pay$ite$ are getting worked by ’NoleInsider.com and are scrambling to “create” stories.
I found it very interesting how a certain site released an article on a Sunday night, when traffic is very low. Could it be to deflect attention from multiple incorrect reports over the last several days?
This is why I like Tomahawk Nation....
