Kill a fly with an axe - Mickey Andrews, his 1998 playbook
BYU game
I am quite nervous about the BYU game, because of the lack of familiarity and how they traditionally love to pass. Any expertise to share on BYU? It would be very embarassing to lose a shootout in the old west
BYU runs a system that will remind you of Texas Tech a bit, but it's not as good.
I am only worried about that trip because it is a long road trip. Their personnel and scheme do not worry me.
We won’t be playing 11-on-11. Their QB doesn’t run, and they don’t do misdirection well.
Additionally, their best wideout in school history unexpectedly left early for the draft.
With 10 days to prep, I think we can do well against BYU.
Arizona beat them soundly in their Bowl Game, by running bubble screens. Essentially just low-risk stuff, allowing their athletes to make plays.
bubble screens
sounds like familiar ground. thanks
I need a name for tonight's trivia team
Last year it was “crouching woman hidden cucumber”
Other good ones (law related): Once Hugo Black, you never go back
So far, we’ve come up with “Global Missionary Positioning System”
No idea what this is about...
but those are all pretty funny.
The Cunning Linguists
We also sometimes used the Cunning Litigants to make it a bit more law-related. But I like the first one better.

Updates from FSU Sports Info
- Surrency’s waiver denied. Appeal coming.
- Owens suspended indefinitely
- Sod is for sale
Thanks to FSUitstime.blogspot
That sucks for Surrency!
I hate the NCAA, what a bunch of pencil-necked geeks.
Sod for sale? Are economic times that bad?
No...
they just replacing the field because it needs it and you they figured the could make some $$$ off of the fans by selling grass from the endzones.

Dumb.
OT: What’s the deal with the facebook group “tomahawk nation”? You’re name is mentioned, but it looks like someone beat you to the punch or something…
It's some drinking club.
We’re not a facebook GROUP, we are a facebook PAGE
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/pages/TomahawkNationcom/63264950770
I was amazed to see some of the people who were fans
Specifically a high schooler from Duncan South Carolina.
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
Did the NCAA state their reasoning for denying Surrency? Following the rule to the letter, he obviously has no chance, but did they think he gained a “significant advantage”? His stats indicate otherwise.
Do you think Owens is going to sit out against Miami? Might we have to put on a show for the media or the NCAA?
I haven't seen anything official from them, only the FSU statement in my inbox.
I bet Owens is suspended until Mid-May
Receivers Wanted!
What is FSU going to do for receivers this year???
I think they will be okay, actually.
We’ll do a piece on this within the next 10 days or so. Sorry to make you wait.
Thank you
New to TN and enjoying it thus far. Will keep an eye out for that piece regarding our receivers
Anyone care to do an updated prediction of 2010 signees?
Might be cool to see what were thinking 2 months after signing day…

FSUStateofMind handles our recruiting coverage
Late Febuary – June – A recruiting thread when we (FSUn, CaStauch, me, MattD, or any editor) see fit or major news. Stories on commits, ect. Usually a couple per month.
July – sometime in fall (October?) – More frequent, maybe every two weeks. Recruiting heats up.
November – NSD – Recruiting every week (every Wednesday).
Hope that helps.
_FSUStateofMind
I do think we will put together a predicted class either tomorrow or in two weeks. There will be a W.O.R.T. tomorrow.
Ira Schoffel on Jeff Cameron.
Thinks that Jimbo limited the spring scrimmage play calling because of potential “spies.” This theory is actually pretty reasonable given Jimbo’s penchant for closed practices.
Someone said we ran 8 different plays
That’s clearly hyperbole but I wouldn’t doubt the spy theory for a minute.
Yea I heard Jimbo lost his playbook and had to use Jeff's old one
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20081229/?pg=2
Did it look like this? Because Jeff totally used this one:

"The other day I... uh, no, that wasn't me." - Steven Wright
Dude, is that real?
maybe I should pick one up just for the hell of it…
It's real as far as I know.
I think I linked it from a public library. Either way, those kids look a hell of a lot happier than anyone ever coached by JB.

Why is the sky blue? Because, God Loves the Infantry
From the book description:
You’ll also see how to:
* Conduct a preseason parents’ meeting—an often overlooked aspect of coaching
* Gather the necessary gear and fit the equipment to your players
* Raise the level of play on offense, defense, and special teams
* Take steps to avoid injuries
* Deal with discipline issues and problem parents
* Make critical half-time adjustments
* Transition to coaching an All-Star Team
Think we should send a copy to Mickey before the Georgia Tech game?
"The other day I... uh, no, that wasn't me." - Steven Wright
So sad
That used to be his calling card. You might get a good half if you got lucky and surprised us. Never two.

To be fair...
From the interviews I’ve read, Paul Johnson is 5 steps ahead of every defensive coach in the country.
By the time you’ve made halftime adjustments, he already saw the same problem you did and has fixed it twice before you can ever make an adjustment.
we're 50% there (offense).
Our punt and kick return personell might be pretty good, blocking too since there seems to be an increased focus on it… hopefully the seniors who thought they didn’t need to block didnt corrupt the younger players.
Andrew Carter ignored the returning aspect of the special teams, what are your thoughts?
" And He drank the world's sin so He could carry you in, and give you life"
Return game is the least of my worries
I rank them from most worried to least worried:
Kickoffs
Punting
Field Goals
Punt Return
Kick Return
Only time will tell for the first 3.

well we have a year and I dont think we will be ready

2009 Greyshirts
Who do y’all think will greyshirt next season?
We had 21 commits. How many open scholarships will we have?
If Furlong leaves and we do lose Surrency that opens 2 scholarships but I would expect one of those to go to Givens.
"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."
"But How will I know limits from lies, if I never try."
Because...
We didn’t know exactly how good he could be last year. We knew his was a beast on special team but that wasn’t completely evident until the Miami game in the middle of the season. He has made spectacular plays in spring ball the entire time. Even in the Spring Game where the offense may or may not have been going half-ass he had a beautiful falling out of bounds grab while being closely covered (for a guy who’s 5’ 8" that’s a short fall) that put the team securely in the red zone.
All said, I think he has earned a scholarship for his senior season much like Benjamin Lampkin did last season.

I agree that he's earned it...
he’s just not getting one.
They would have already done so, trust me!
What’s he gonna do transfer?!
Yeah, right!
If he's a senior, he will get it
Since we are now pretty far under the limit.
He wouldn’t have already received it because we award scholarships at the beginning of fall, not before. Now that we have extra space, he’ll get one if he is in fact a senior.
If Givens is a Senior, he will get one.
If he is a junior, I’m not so sure.
Hicks is expected not to greyshirt (though he will likely redshirt). Stork will likely greyshirt.
According to...
Seminoles.com he is a senior and according to Carter’s WR breakdown he’s a redshirt senior. Either way I think he get is. That’s interesting about Hicks. I don’t read much into the fact he is a 2-star because we all know he was injured. He’s expected to play DE right. I wasn’t sure if he would greyshirt but I had heard the Stork would.

Jimbo wants to take 25 and my guess is that we actually take something like 28, signing and placing a few kids and greyshirting another.
I expect no less than 6 players to be cut/ not renewed/ asked to transfer/ lose their passion from the game the current roster.
We have a lot of lazy upperclassmen who were pretty ruined by the previous regime.

I'll play
WR Cameron Wade
OL Will Furlong
OL Brandon Davis
OL Evan Bellamy
LB Aaron Gresham
LB Maurice Harris
LB Mister Alexander
DB Ed Imeokparia
Kill a fly with an axe - Mickey Andrews, his 1998 playbook
3 on your list that surprise me:
Gresham, Alexander & Wade.
Gresham was supposedly tearing it up before his injury last year. Has he not been able to recover fully? I thought I read some good things about Alexander this spring (but I could be thinking of someone else. What’s up with Wade?
From what I hear, Ed I. & Furlong are definitely gone. I’d write off a couple more o-linemen to “a-Trickett-rition.” Harris is a ghost.
Gresham was supposedly tearing it up before his injury last year. Has he not been able to recover fully?
He’s just been passed by some other players and they are now ahead of where he was when he was healthy. Also, there is some race element there. People are enamored with white linebackers, particularly when we haven’t had one in forever.
I thought I read some good things about Alexander this spring (but I could be thinking of someone else.
I did as well, but I do think he’ll be gone since he’s not good enough to start and will be an upperclassmen.
What’s up with Wade?
Wade is just sort of average and was not really a Jimbo recruit.
Jimbo needs that signature "win"...
It’s a not well guarded secret that Jimbo really really wants Marcus Lattimore. Most people assume we have little or no shot. This is the kind of recruiting win that Jimbo needs, both for recruiting in the future and for the boosters. He can thump his chest about the quality of the incoming recruits as compared to the few years before he got here. Landing Lattimore will go a long toward having the whole fanbase accept him. That and wins on the field…lol
"We're not maxed out, ... The best is still ahead of us."
Bobby Bowden
I think Greg Reid was a pretty big "win" for Jimbo.
Hopefully, the kid will qualify and be available to help us out next year.
Absolutely....
Hopefully, the first of many….
"We're not maxed out, ... The best is still ahead of us."

As long as
the coaches care more about thumping their chests over how well they coach the players they recruit, they can recruit all 4*s and below ESPN 25 and I would still be elated.
" And He drank the world's sin so He could carry you in, and give you life"
man I cant wait tell next year.
see this is the reason why I love this web site. even in the off season I have something to look foward too. like dreaming about who we need and what we can get. I cant wait tell Jimbo takes over the ship.

I may not post many comments, and hopefully that will change with time, but I sure do enjoy
reading what other diehards like myself think, even those I may not agree with 100% with.
GREAT SITE
This is completely off subject BUT I need your prayers
I’m almost done with grad school and completely misread what a professor wanted us to learn and had to take a 6 essay exam in two sittings, no notes. I worry that I bombed it, and my program completely kicks out students who get below a C (meaning they cannot get back in or re-take the class). I would appreciate all the prayers offered that I did well on the parts that I knew and gave the professor what he wanted better than I think I did.
Thanks.

Anyone have word on where Reid, Downs & Mizell...
stand in terms of qualifying? I know it’s only April, but they should have test scores at least right?
Think Mizell is fine.
Downs needs something like 2 more classes. Haven’t seen anything on Reid, I’d assume he’s good to go.

URGENT!
Just read in the USA Today that top running back Malcolm Jones is going to send film to schools he is interested in, one being Florida State. We need to jump on the train and offer this guy.
Let me try again...
Here’s the link… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odF6LUjgVEw
"We're not maxed out, ... The best is still ahead of us."
Bobby Bowden
Okay, this guy is from Cali.
Let me say… don’t get your hopes up. I’ll try to find a west coast expert.
Your right, however he is interested in us, so we should not dismiss him just because he is from the west coast.
On the other hand, I am with you on not getting my hopes up. Just happy to see a big time west coaster showing us interest.
Is that a Malcolm Jones highlight reel, or a Cierre Wood lowlight?
Jones looks to have some sick moves and speed. I would be concerned with the level of competition. Anyone know about Santa Clara hs football? Isn’t that where Chris Rix was from?
The competiton in their league is suspect, but I believe they play some of the top powers
in the state out of conference.
