Monday Morning Tomahawks 5.20.09

FSU fans are lucky that James Coley knows the NCAA recruiting regulations:

Because of NCAA rules I am not allowed to use names or schools that I have visited - However, I am allowed to use cities - Ft Lauderdale.
  Tennessee Fans?  Not so much:
Tennessee plans to self-report another NCAA secondary violation after a high school recruit was mentioned by name Tuesday on Lane Kiffin's Twitter page.

A quick podcast on the 'Noles from Athlon Sports?  Yep.

Chantrant finding a talented QB prospect?  Maybe so.  Cool name too-- JayGun.

Rob Wilson, FSU's assistant athletic director is blogging.  Maybe FSU likes bloggers now?  Speaking of which, we were added to the official press releases list.

Wake Forest lost a ton from last year's squad.  Overall Preview, Offense preview, and defense preview.

Seminoles.com previews the defensive tackles, the 6th in a series.  It's informative, but of course it ignores a lot of the stuff that a discussion of defensive tackles should include.  Stuff like "if FSU really missed Budd Thacker in spring ball, they are in serious trouble.", or "it's unrealistic to expect a freshman defensive tackle to contribute early.  In fact, try to remember the last 18 yearold who dominated in the middle...".  But man they do get the video interviews, and I like those.

Speaking of defensive tackles, Jacobbi McDaniel made a mistake playing baseball.  He needed to go full-bore into his weight training program.  These three months haven't been wasted, but they haven't been used in the best way possible, and that's a little dissappointing to see from the guy who is the unquestioned leader of the incoming recruiting class.  Also, he's not a pro baseball prospect.  Remember Andrew Carter's story, and remember that he's not in the 10,000+ member high school senior database.

Kenny Shaw, per facebook, confirmed that FSU was on top, and he's recruiting for FSU, in a message on Lamarcus Joyner's wall:

Kenny Shaw at 12:33am May 19
Folk just gon head n put fsu at da top like me......

Comcast Florida Panhandle is pleased to announce that it will televise the Florida State vs. Boston College - ACC Baseball Tournament game on Wednesday, May 20th at 4pm on cable channel 16.

Video of a Miami commit (gotta keep tabs on our opposition).

FSU with excellent plate discipline!  There we go guys!

A bit of recruiting stuff inside

From Tharinger.com, twitter, Soflafootball.com, Gridironstuds.com, and other people at FSU in our always expanding network of friends!

Hearing that Florida State is pretty far ahead for Miami(FL) RB Eduardo Clements. In fact, it looks like the 'Noles are in pretty good shape for a lot of Booker T./Miami Central recruits (Reese, Godfrey, Dunbar).

Miami's coaches visited Trammell Williams, who we first profiles on TNation!  Let's see if we offer

FSU was in SoFla yesterday, and checked out Terrence Brooks, the corner.

Looks like a decision is upcoming for Lauderdale Lakes(FL) CB Cliff Coleman. The 5'11" CB prospect wants to make the call before the end of May and will choose between Miami and Florida State.

FSU also visited the middle of the state first where Fisher and ODell stayed after their Orlando activities on Monday, dropping in on Kenny Shaw (and making quite the impression, as we noted his facebook activity above).  They also saw Jared Haggins and Chad Abrams (both in Lakeland), as well as 2011 stud Karlos Williams.

James Coley, per twitter, was in Sofla today.  He saw Tony Grimes who plays corner for Hollywood, and saw defensive end David Perry (I'll have more on this later as we know a coach at that school).  I don't remember, but I don't remember if FSU has offered Grimes.  Oh, and they also saw 2011 Defensive End Bryan Sylvestri. The 6′4, 225 pound defensive end will challenge Bryant Dubose of Northeast next year as the top end in Broward County.

Ok, from Chad at Gridironstuds.com...

Hollywood Hills cornerback and Gridironstuds.com member Tony Grimes has received an offer from the University of Alabama. Grimes now has offers from Miami, Mississippi, Oklahoma St., Oregon, South Carolina and Texas Tech along with Bama.

St. Thomas Aquinas (Florida) cornerback Keion Payne received a scholarship offer from the University of Miami. Payne has offers from Florida St., Georgia and Mississippi. Florida St. is reportedly his favorite.

Here's film of Grimes:
