Florida State Seminoles Baseball to host a Super Regional!

From FSU Sports Information

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - With a victory over Ohio State Sunday night on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium, Florida State advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals for the ninth time in school history.

On Monday night, the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee announced that Florida State was selected as one of eight institutional hosts for this weekend's Super Regional play. Florida State (45-16) will welcome the Arkansas Razorbacks (37-22) to Tallahassee for a best-of-three game series beginning on Friday, June 5.

"We are very excited about being chosen to host a Super Regional," said head coach Mike Martin. "We feel that it is an honor well deserved. I know that the fans of Tallahassee are very excited as we all are here at Florida State."

A minimum of 45 hours of super-regional television will be provided by family of ESPN channels, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU. Consult local listings for specific games shown in each area of the country. As many as 15 national broadcast windows could appear on the three ESPN networks from June 5-8.

The Seminoles and Razorbacks will square-off for the first time since their Super Regional showdown in Fayetteville back in 2004. Arkansas won the series 2-0 defeating Florida State 7-5 and 4-2. The Seminoles are 0-3 all-time against the Razorbacks.

"Having played the University of Arkansas in the past and knowing what they have accomplished in the postseason, we understand how difficult this Super Regional will be," added Martin.

The complete schedule for the Tallahassee Super Regional is listed below:

Friday, June 5, 2009
Game 1: Arkansas vs. Florida State - 12:00 p.m. (ESPN)

Saturday, June 6, 2009
Game 2: Florida State vs. Arkansas - 12:00 p.m. (ESPN2)

Sunday, June 7, 2009
Game 3: (if necessary) - 12:00 p.m. (ESPN)

Nice.

I wonder if the recent beatdown put us over the top as a super-regional host?

I like this match-up too. Although we were swept in 2004, it was in Fayateville. Playing at home can make all the difference…
