Tomahawk Nation Off-Season Member Survey #1
[Editor's Note: the post I was working on got deleted. I believe this to be user error.]
That being the case, I'd appreciate if you would take your time to fill out this brief survey. I was saving this for a rainy day, but a day in which my lack of computer skills undermines my work will do just fine. I want to gauge your involvement with Seminole athletics because I am working on a project for the site and I need to know what our members know/ are like/ do. If you're not a member, but rather just a reader who doesn't post, now would be a great time to sign up (easy, totally free and we don't spam you or sell your information). It would be a bigger help than you know.
My answers to my own survey after lunch.
1. How old are you?
2. Did you attend FSU, and if so, what years?
3. Are you a member of Seminole boosters? Why, or why not? Have you been a season ticket holder int he past?
4. Are you a season ticket holder? Why, or why not? Have you been a season ticket holder in the past?
5. How far do you live from Tallahassee?
6. When did you last attend a Seminole football game (if ever)?

i like trivia
1) 26 years old
2) Yes, 2001,2002,2003 then transferred to UF to get a degree in agriculture, hated to leave and want to go back
3) I am not now, nor have I ever been a Seminole Booster… or communist for that matter. Why? I’m 26 and will be a booster when I have the disposable income.
4) I am not a season ticket holder, but would be interested in becoming one. My question is: if I only get two tickets now (all i could afford) but would want maybe four in the future, does my purchase of two in 2009 matter for getting four in 2011 or 2012? And would they still be part of the same package (guaranteed to be all 4 together)?
5) I live in West Palm 33412 but work in Belle Glade 33430. About a 5.5-6 hour drive, 430 miles.
6) My last game at FSU was FSU-UF in 2006, but I also saw FSU-UF in gainesville 2007. Last year was the first year I’ve missed that game in about 9 years. But I don’t regret not going last year. F’n Timmy
#3 is awesome!

On your ticket question
I don’t think it’s guaranteed you could get 4 in the same spot a year after having 2, but I bet they will work with you to figure something out. They are really hurting right now when it comes to ticket sales, so my guess is if someone calls them wanting to buy some now and maybe more down the line, they will want to help you out.

5) I live in Pensacola. About 2 and a half hours away from Tally.
6) I went to the Virginia Tech game last year.
1) 38 years old
2) graduated from FSU in 1993

yes its sad that I didnt know my wife and her family but my father-in-law as 5 rows away
That was a great game for me because I just got back. I always feat NCST because they use to have the Def. from hell. I would like UF to played them back from 95 – 03 bacuase people would see a differant NCST team. I have seen a lot of ACC fans and I think it goes FSU, Miami, NCST, then VT as fsr as loyalty goes. Also If anyone ever goes up to a FSU – NCST game in Rileigh its cool because the ST fair is going on and they have a good one.

And they get to leave at halftime, right?
I’ve always thought Clemson fans were pretty nasty.
Wake fans are very nice.

Clemson fans are not that bad
The are more like good old country boys. they can watch a game with you you can drink there beer and when your team wins they will say you earned it.
Why is the sky blue? Because, God Loves the Infantry
Last year after Clemson
There was a Corey Smith concert at Potbelly’s and we gave the Clemson fans such shit.
I got kicked out of that game some time in the second half.
I caught an extra point. I was hammered and tried throwing it back on the field from the middle of a crowd in the student section (NW endzone). It was not a good throw and allegedly missed hitting Chief O and Renegade by about a foot. It was not my intention to hit anyone. I just tried to get it on the field, and I didnt even bother to watch it land. I heard a loud “ohhhhhh” from the crowd and didn’t realize it was because of my throw until later. About 30 seconds later I was swarmed by TPD. I tried explaining that I had no idea where the ball landed and how I obviously was not trying and hit my own mascot. They did not care and I was escorted out.
The entire section chanted “let him stay” to no avail. Then a couple of my fraternity brothers, who were even more loaded than I was, started yelling at the cop as I was walking out. I was resigned to the fact there was nothing I could do, but they would not accept my fate. My buddies wouldn’t let it drop, and they were subsequently arrested. So I was walked out of the stadium and they were taken to jail. Instead of walking across the street to my house at Indian village to finish watching the game, I took a cab to bail my friends out of jail and missed the entire end of the game. I eventually heard we won. Neat.
Basically, this was the worst game I’ve ever attended.

some of my fraternity brothers got arrested for fighting each other during a game over whether that
pick Drew threw right before halftime against BC was more Jeff’s fault or Drew’s fault.
Best Arrest at Doak
What entails is easily the best incident and subsequent arrest I have seen during my time as an FSU student. An FSU fan jumped out of the stands onto the Georgia Tech side-line and absolutely bum-rushed and knocked over out the yellow jacket mascot. Unbelievable. And funny. Well the guy got some cheers until a Yellow Jacket MALE cheerleader grabbed our feisty nole and picked him up BY HIS ANKLES head dangling just off the ground. Unreal. But still very funny. Just one of those life lessons…do NOT mess with male cheerleaders…they just might have issues.

Was anyone there for the Burger King fiasco?
IT was homecoming and I think against NC ST. Might have been 2005. Now that was hilarious. I think it’s on youtube if you weren’t there.
Do I look like a cat to you, boy? Am I jumpin' around all nimbly-bimbly from tree to tree? Am I drinking milk from a saucer? DO YOU SEE ME EATING MICE? You stop laughing right meow!
That was awazing
I remeber that wern’t we getting beat then the burger king guy ran on the field then we started kicking but again. It was around Halloween i believe.
Yeah, I guess you never know what you'll see at Doak
And we almost won that too

Buzz is cool... certainly not deserving of a blindside hit...
The male GT cheerleaders looked like the big nurses at the asylum who put you in the straight jacket. Definitely not someone you want to encounter. Now the one dude who was a flag girl in the GT band… you could have totally taken that guy. He might have liked it though… I dunno.
That one's a tough call....

2. Attended 96-99, and I do use the term lightly. Currently finishing up my college degree.
3. We aren’t boosters because we are newly weds (1.5 years) and planning a family. Money goes towards that before anything else.
4. Nope, never been a season ticket holder. It was more fun to sneak in/ scalp tickets.
5. About 500 miles. big sad face
6. Attended the Wake Forest game last season for my birthday and had a blast, even though we lost. I successfully converted my wife from being a Gator when we first met and the Wake Forest game was her 2nd FSU experience. We attended the Music City Bowl vs. Kentucky the previous year. Life is great, she now hates the Gators, hates Kentucky and hates Tennessee. Does it get any better?

4) No, I have a season ticket to everything but football. I had some minor health issues that made it tough to sit through the whole game, but I am going to try to go to some games next year and if everything is fine I will buy season tickets for the 2010 season.

2. Graduated FSU spring of ’99.
3. Some may not like this: My wife and I have the means to be Seminole Boosters (we’re far from rich, mind you), but we made the decision not to donate until Bowden is gone. (Sorry gang, I’m aware that might not be cool, but I’m always honest on these boards.) When Bowden is gone, we plan to donate at the Tomahawk level to start. I mentioned we’re not rich, but please understand we’re not stingy either. We donate 10% of everything we earn to our church and can’t wait to donate to FSU athletics as a married couple. But FSU will never see the money we held onto or the interest. We’ve spent it, and FSU didn’t want it when we had it. I know this because I contacted them, through e-mails and letters and phone calls, and all those guys cared about were the old men who were donating. They didn’t care about my concerns or yours or anyone else who wasn’t a Golden Chief and didn’t understand how hot dogs were paying for Jeff Bowden’s payout. I guess it never occurred to them that my wife and I would love to be Golden Chiefs one day if we could be so blessed. I was excited to learn that TN is addressing concerns like mine in the near future.
4. Season ticket holder since ’91.
5. I live just north of Orlando, about 3 hours from Tallahassee.
6. Champs Bowl. I’ve missed two home games since ’91. I try to make at least one or two road/bowl games a year. Used to be more, gets harder as you get older, plus I have weekend commitments, though I try to minimize those in the fall as much as possible.
well at least your honest about it
I can respect that too.

In case there's confusion / for people reading posts about priority points / booster contributions, etc....
My “block of seats” has both priority points (you build these in several ways – e.g., how many years you’ve been a season ticket holder, how many years you’ve been a booster, etc.) and a booster level tied to it (I’m not sure what our combined contribution is now, but as I’ve stated elsewhere, we’re not using the booster level to position our seats anyway).
The reason I’m mentioning all this again and clarifying is that as far as priority points are concerned, these are counts that are going to RESET for everyone that’s bailing. (They’re defined officially as “continuous” years as a season ticket holder / booster, etc.) And at the same time, if you’ve got a few bucks to spare and want to move into Priority II seating, you’re there in 2009! I guess this is just one last plug. Buy season tickets, become a Booster this year if you can, and get your head start on everyone else. You deserve to get something for your loyalty this decade.
1) 80 year old fart in a 38 year old body
2) Yep. 94/95 got a BS in Crim (damn Dr. Fridell was HOT) piddled around in the MPa program until 97 and the bonding business came calling.
3)No and won’t until Jimbo takes over,
4) Not buying season tix either b/c I can get much better ones on Stub Hub. I refuse to sit in crappy endzone seats all the while paying top dollar for them. Call me persnickety or whatever but if I can’t sit betwixt the 20’s I’d rather watch it on th boobtube.
5)Bronson is about 120 mile south of God’s Country. About 20 miles west of the tailhole known as The People’s Republic of Alcahua County.
6) Last year’s Wake abortion. See also question #3 as to the next tme I’ll spend the loot to come back. Actually I have a couple mini-Levy’s on the way so I may come up for a game or 2 this fall b/c next year will in all likliehood consist of schitty diapers @ halftime and that my friend’s is handled much better at the hacienda!!!! Or in the visitor’s section…

2. Did you attend FSU, and if so, what years?
—-Yes. 2000 – 2004
3. Are you a member of Seminole boosters? Why, or why not? Have you been a season ticket holder int he past?
—-Yes. Talked for years about establishing priority in tandem with my cousin, we decided this was great year to get our foot in the door. I bought season tickets last year, but from a fan and not via the FSU ticket office.
4. Are you a season ticket holder? Why, or why not? Have you been a season ticket holder in the past?
5. How far do you live from Tallahassee?
—Fort Lauderdale. 6.5 – 7 hour drive, or preposterously expensive flight.
6. When did you last attend a Seminole football game (if ever)?
—-Champs Bowl. Been going to games since the ‘87 Miami game (went for 2). Last year was actually the most games I’ve ever attended at 9. (kinda crazy considering I’m from Tally and went to FSU)
oops.
Forgot to answer #4, but it’s mostly all in #3 anyways. Bought season tix as Booster for first time this year. No idea where the seats are located yet. (Joy!!!)
That's the worst part.
This really is the year to take the plunge though. And there really isn’t a bad seat – I would really think the biggest concern is sun vs. shade, but as students, we were always in the sun anyway.
Actually the worst part (of not knowing) is a year in which you add a ticket and you get to wait and see how it all turned out. Did i get that empty seat next to ours? Did they move all our seats? Did they get my request?!
Sun vs. Shade
My grandpa always had primo seats on the 45 yard line that my uncle now owns the rights to on the Visitor’s Side. What it came down to was the atmosphere over the UV rays. Some games the sun is atrocious, but last year only 1 game was a factor (Chattanooga).
We were really scared about sitting near the "Siddown! SIDDOWN!!! crowd that’s more prevalent on the West Side. I was unaware of the little pocket in Section 38. We’re hoping for 8/9 which is also near the students.
How bad would it suck to get to your new seats an hour before the Miami game and realize you’re sitting behind C. Montgomery Burns, Leona Helmsley, and their 45-year old offspring that are indifferent to sports but wanna get into the family will?
You do have a point.
I think I’m just used to the Burns-Helmsley-hybrid-offspring crowd (awful mental image you’ve given me) that populates the west side, but you’re right, that’s not everywhere in the stadium. I’m going to be watching this Section 38 this year. I really wouldn’t be surprised if you end up in 27 though (and probably with better seats than me since I hold them). It really feels like the fringe out there lately, and I could see attrition hitting it hard this time. It wouldn’t hurt my feelings to see some new blood of your caliber. Certainly no one buying a season ticket this year will be doing it because it’s cool to hang out at Doak Campbell.
According to my calculations...
…10-12% lower sales means an entire 2 full sections of seats are currently not purchased compared to last year. There’s no telling how hard the long-time boosters will hunker down and hold their seats compared to the year-to-year season tix sales, but I’m fairly optimistic of getting between the goal lines. We upped our contribution to Tomahawk level (how fitting) to try and force our way in.

6. I went to the Florida State AT Maryland game last year. Brutally cold. Before that I went to the infamous Wake game. Other memorable game was the NCSt overtime game where they took out Cro Thorpes knee. Lots of homecoming games and lesser opponents. Bowl Games. Lots more unmemorable ones. I suppose bad weather follows me.
"I have come that you may have life, and life to the max"
It wasn't Cro's knee...
….it was his tibia/fibula. He was blocking downfield and standing up straight when the play rolled up behind him. This is one of the most dangerous situations in football which I liken to the Roy Williams Horse Collar.
BTW, the school newspaper decided to put that picture on their cover the following week…the microsecond before his leg was about to snap. It was a disgusting photo selection that was never mentioned in the photo caption or anywhere in the articles. 4. Yes. Purchased my season ticket plan this year because of the prices, and I know part of the upgrade system is length of time you’ve had tickets so I figured I should get em now while I can instead of trying when were back in title contention and it will be impossible.
5. I Live in Tallahassee and actually about a rocks throw from the stadium. It looms over my apartment and I love it.
6. Last game was FSU/Wisconsin in my hometown of Orlando. Went to all the Home games last year, and have been going to games for about 4 years now. I will be at all the home games this year and hope to catch an away game perhaps in Death Valley against Clemson.

For those that think they can’t afford to become a booster, they have a super cheap level for those that want to be involved and start now. 60 bucks a year. I think we all probably spend that in a bar or on some other ridiculous expense each weekend/month) Go Noles! Imagine if every single alumni or fan donated at least at the 60 buck level. That would be some serious coin. 7 K new graduates each year at 60 bucks would endow 2-3 scholarships. Just a thought. Every dollar helps.
I regret not doing the cheapo level earlier.
Not that that few hundred dollars would make a difference, but because I believe in the grass roots movements and not joining is kinda hypocritical of me. I’m make up for lost time this year.
Horrible grammar all around.
I’m better than that. Jesus.
In summary,
My small donations wouldn’t have made a big difference, but I should’ve subscribed to the grass roots type movement. I’m a rather significant Booster from this year forward, making up for no donations my first handful of years post-college.
Small donations,
large donations, they do ALL make a difference. That 60 dollar contributor is just as valuable as the Golden Chief. Seriously wrap your mind around the sheer number of graduates and fans that are out there and imagine if they each contributed a small 60 dollar doanaion….we would not have money concerns ever. EVERY donation matters. Go Noles!

1. How old are you? 27.
It took me about 3 min to remember my age…seriously
2. Did you attend FSU, and if so, what years?
2000-2004 (biggest mistake of my life was graduating in 4 years, I should have taken 5)
3. Are you a member of Seminole boosters? Why, or why not? Have you been a season ticket holder int he past?
I’m not a Seminole booster. Currently it’s hard to contribute because of money reasons but in the past I just didn’t see the point. I don’t feel like I’d be able to participate in what they offer because I live up in VA and it seems the big draw to being a booster is going to the speaking tours.
4. Are you a season ticket holder? Why, or why not? Have you been a season ticket holder in the past?
I’ve never been a season ticket holder since I live in VA but my parents are moving down there in a few years so I’m likely to buy them season tickets.
5. How far do you live from Tallahassee?
about 700 miles (Richmond, VA)
6. When did you last attend a Seminole football game (if ever)?
I get to one a year. Last year I went to the UMd game.

I just watched this video ,
and it is clear that we just don’t have the playmakers on both sides of the ball to be on a NC level. Weinke had all day to throw… P-dub and Ron Dugans made the defense look pathetic…. and our defense was flying all over the place.

1. How old are you?
-26
2. Did you attend FSU, and if so, what years?
-Yes. Started in Fall 2000, Graduated Fall 2004
3. Are you a member of Seminole boosters? Why, or why not?
-Just joined 2 days ago as a “Renegade”! Just felt that I had spent so much time and energy following FSU athletics, that I might as well contribute.
4. Are you a season ticket holder? Why, or why not? Have you been a season ticket holder in the past?
- No I am not, and haven’t been in the past.
- Since graduating, I have lived in Washington DC, Seattle, and Nashville. Tally is expensive and time consuming to get to, and it would be too tough for season tickets to be worth it. I have been a “road warrior”, attending many Nole games near cities that are easier to get to.
5. How far do you live from Tallahassee?
- Just moved back to Raleigh, NC (my hometown). It is 625 miles….about a 9 hour drive.
6. When did you last attend a Seminole football game (if ever)?
- FSU at Maryland (2008)
- Last home game was Virginia Tech (2008)
- Last year I attended at Miami, at NC State, at Georgia Tech, at Maryland, and home against Virginia Tech
Plans for this year?
Are you plannning any trips to Tally this year for games? I live in High Point now, but the drive is still pretty “dadgum” far.

4. Not a season ticket holder, that would be a long roadie from Utah. Although I have thought about it several times.
5. 1720 miles, I googled it.
6. In Tallahassee, NC State, 2003, the Phillip Rivers shootout game. I attended the Colorado game in Boulder in 2007. I have tickets to the BYU game this fall in Provo.

30
2. Did you attend FSU, and if so, what years?
No
3. Are you a member of Seminole boosters? Why, or why not? Have you been a season ticket holder int he past?
Yes at the most minimal level and I also have a Seminoles tag for my truck which a portion of my registration goes to FSU. If that counts for bonus points lol.
4. Are you a season ticket holder? Why, or why not? Have you been a season ticket holder in the past?
No… I live in Tampa and can not justify buying season tickets to only attend 1 or two games a year in Tally.
5. How far do you live from Tallahassee?
Tampa, however far that is lol.
6. When did you last attend a Seminole football game (if ever)?
Attended two home games last year …. Wake Forest and I was too hammered to remember the second one. lol

2. Did you attend FSU, and if so, what years? DId not attend FSU, though i regret that
3. Are you a member of Seminole boosters? Why, or why not? Have you been a season ticket holder int he past? I am not a booster, just never thought about it I guess. Not a season ticket holder
4. Are you a season ticket holder? Why, or why not? Have you been a season ticket holder in the past? I live in St Pete, thus going up for every game makes it a bit difficult with a wife and job
5. How far do you live from Tallahassee? St Pete, so a few hours
6. When did you last attend a Seminole football game (if ever)? Last year I went to 2 games. This year I will be at the FSU/NC St (homecoming) game
I Love Surveys
1. How old are you? 30, boo-frickin-hoo, okay?
2. Did you attend FSU, and if so, what years? Yes, Fall 1997- Spring 2001
3. Are you a member of Seminole boosters? Why, or why not? Nope. I have a very long story to go with this, but I paid out of state tuition for 4 years when I shouldn’t have, so it is unlikely that I will ever donate money back to the university in any way, shape, or form.
4. Are you a season ticket holder? Why, or why not? Nope. Got married and moved to Lafayette, Indiana right after graduation. No point in getting season tickets from there…
5. How far do you live from Tallahassee? Through last season, 850 miles. As of February, 575 miles (damn, that’s still far…)
6. When did you last attend a Seminole football game (if ever)? Went to every home game while I was there, pretty sure the last one was a victory over the gators. Then I watched us get completely stiffled by Oklahoma on TV….

2008 FSU/UF Game in Tally.
I am old enough to be your father, or at least to 92% of you guys.
1. 51 going on 31.
2. I started at FSU winter of ‘78 with AA in hand. Worked full time and paid my own way and graduated Dec ‘80 with triple business majors (BS in Marketing, Risk Management/Insurance, and Management), but I stayed in Tally working and waiting for future wife to graduate for another year.
I was on 5-1/2 year college plan, but I was in no real hurry to leave ideal fantasy life for real world.
3. We were both Boosters for about 17 years, 82-99, but then stopped renewing somewhere around 2000.
I would consider becoming a Booster again when Jimbo takes over.
I have FSU plates for whatever that is worth.
4. No, not presently and probably not again due to the distance.
I was a season ticket holder my whole time while in Tally.
After graduating we used to attend 2 to 3 games every year until around 2000.
I will probably start going to a couple of games every year again when Jimbo takes over.
5. Approx. 450 miles either flying from Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood airport or approx. 7 hours driving (ugh).
6. Champs Bowl and FSU-UM rainfest last year.
I have been to every FSU Orange Bowl appearance (80, 81, 93, 94 (our first NC), 96, 2001, 04, 06), and every FSU-UM game played in OB and Fin Stadium since 1978 (including all the wide rights and wide left-ugh, ugh, ugh).
I watch every single game on TV or listen to Gene on the radio if not televised or on PPV.
I’m a die hard NOLE who not only bleeds, but also pee’s Garnet and Gold.
>-----:----:------>Spear 'em then Scalp 'em
Then garnet half I am not too concerned about, but I have been working on solidifying the gold part.
>-----:----:------>Spear 'em then Scalp 'em
That is quite the skill!
If you could get that figured out, you’d be set!!!

2. Yes, 1995-2000
3. I joined Boosters for the season ticket priority points. Stayed with it until we started having kids and couldn’t make games every weekend.
4. I was from 2001 through 2004 I think. Once the kids are older, I definitely want to look into it again.
5. 3-4 hours (Orlando suburb)
6. 2007 @ UF and @ Colorado. Last game in Tally was 2004 vs. UF.
Thanks CMalani!
That Colorado game was tough to watch. Thank God their linebacker took the wrong angle on Antone.

2. No, but I’ve worked here at FSU for three years now.
3. No. My wife and I are raising three little boys, and can’t really afford it.
4. No. See 3.
5. I live in Tallahassee.
6. The only FSU football game I’ve attended was in 1991 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where I was in college. FSU went up and down the field at will that day.
1991 @ Michigan
That is my favorite ever FSU game. One of the very few occasions where we showed up in a big game clicking from the start and could not be stopped.
A helluva game to have as your only one.

2. No, I went to Troy University because I live in Alabama and could not afford the out of state tuition, not to mention I got 75% off of my tuition at Troy.
3. Yes, I have been a Seminole Booster for 6 years. Currently, I am at the Warrior level. I don’t understand how some can’t afford it when the lowest membership level (Iron Arrow) is only $60 a year ($5 a month).
4. I ordered season tickets for the first time this season to help out with the slow ticket sales at FSU. I never have been because my grandparents have had season tickets for 30+ years and I use one of their tickets. I have not missed a home game since 2003.
5. I live in Troy, AL which is 2 hours and 45 minutes from Tallahassee.
6. I last attended the FSU-UF game in Tallahassee, unfortunately.
