Hold your horses.

This is far from over, imo. They’re also visiting Alabama.

I don't think he has any real interest in Alabama

I still believe he’s a strong FSU lean and is ready to commit soon.

Here is a response from Genron jsut two days ago on a Youtube video on LJ.... this is good news to me!

“I hate FSU? Well I don’t. I have repeatly said that my mind changed about them after the visit a couple of months ago. It has. I have seen them in person and had a 4 hour meeting with them all. It was serious and I trust they will turn things around. I tell LJ everyday that he cannot make a bad choice. His top 5 are some awesome schools with great teams. You telling me he can make a bad choice with FSU, OSU, UGA, UF, Bama?”

Hijacking the topic a little.

I often wonder when I read the posts on here how much the person writing it really knows about the program. Is he an insider, one of the coaches, a rabid fan or perhaps a homeless man that came to the library to poop and got on a computer.

I am asking, without giving names or titles or such, that you just tell how much information you are really privy to or are you just blowing smoke.

Remember, you don’t to be in the program to have good info (i.e. student who is good friends with player or recruit)

I"ll go first -Rabid fan with no insider information, an astute understanding of football but learning more everyday. My observations are just that, and any guesses on things inside the program are just that. So there you have it. Hopefully this can put some context on any of my posts you read and I will be sure to update everyone with any changes that may give me more info….like perhaps becoming the next president of FSU….lol

I really think it varies.

I think I have a pretty good understanding of football, and information wise, it comes from a lot of different places- some with and some without agendas.

i thougt he was talking about the “he will commit these weekend” type comments….the wishful thinking of those with nothing more than a gut feeling. don’t think it was directed at the fanpost topic

Genron,

Make sure you guys take a tour of strozier libray and landis green so Lamarcus gets a good look at some of the “assets” FSU has to offer…. You know, lots of books and computers, big outdoor cough coed area dually suited for studying and/or sunbathing…

He might find some reasons in addition to football to give FSU a few looks.

Lived in Landis for two years

and Landis green was a great place to play ultimate frisbee, football, and see the girls tanning. IMO, the sand volleyball court is on the wrong side of the building….

I didn’t want to leave Landis, but I figured that once I was at the Engineering sShool more often than not, it didn’t make sense to stay there. Makes me sad thinking about it.

by truenole87 on Jul 12, 2009 7:52 PM EDT up reply actions

I'd still like to see someone call them out

LJ is lucky to have someone like Genron in his life. I expect it from most who are actively recruiting our top targets. Some schools to name a few, UF, Clemson, USCe, prob Bama, and definitely Lame Kiffin at UT. There are some HC’s that I would exclude from the list but would expect it from other staff members. I can’t see Randy Shannon/Mark Richt targeting our program but I wouldn’t put it past some of the coaches on their staff.

by CSI Nole on Jul 12, 2009 11:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Richt is the one that told Elam Urban Meyer was leaving this season according to Paul Finebaum.

When I tried that a couple of years ago.

someone called the FSUPD, they told me I was creepy, they told me to get off campus, and that they did not want me or my kind around.

I was confused and upset.

But then I realized that maybe walking around campus in the summer wearing a long overcoat with nothing underneath could have been considered kinda creepy.

Lesson learned.

by BigWorm on Jul 10, 2009 5:56 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

I've heard comparisons of Bob Sanders

People say they’re concerned about his height, but he hits like a ton of bricks . . . seriously. Here’s the ESPN Evaluation:
What Joyner lacks in size he makes up for in excellent speed and acceleration. A talented receiver and outstanding overall athlete, but we feel his future lies on defense at cornerback. Needs some polish in his technique but has all the coveted traits you look for accept ideal height. Does have long arms and wingspan to help mask shorter frame. Displays great range and makeup speed. His recovery burst and breaking quickness may be unparalleled in this class. Reads the play quickly and covers a ton of ground in a hurry. Closes hard and shows deceptive explosiveness on contact. Delivers a great pop and runs through all his tackles. Tight, quick twitched body allows him to play much bigger His run support skills, nose for the football and overall physicality really surprise you for his size. Gets over trash quickly and looks comfortable playing near the line of scrimmage. Really feisty and difficult to seal off on the perimeter. Transitions quickly and takes direct angles to the ball. Definitely a guy who will be able to set the edge and flourish in a “hard” cover 2 scheme at the next level despite his diminutive size. Pedal and coverage technique will need some refinement but he has the loose hips and foot-quickness to mirror and play off-man and the physicality to press despite lacking long arms and great size. But we still feel he is better playing the ball in front of him and may be best suited in underneath zone schemes where he can get more involved than locked up on an island. Safety is not out of question in the right scheme and he should immediately challenge for early playing time as a nickel corner. Could get a look on offense in the slot with his great foot-speed and quickness needed to create mismatches in the slot. Overall, Joyner is an exciting athlete and potentially a future difference maker on defense. A guy who is consistently around the football making plays.

Man you posted this as I was writing that up.

guess I could have surfed over to ESPN, Bob Sanders is similar in body style but I believe LJ will be much better in coverage, but not as great a tackler overall.

Either way we're in good shape

Reid, Joyner, Noel, Alexander, Parks, Moody, Harley, Demps, Abrams, Bright. Our DB’s are destined to be sick if Joyner commits. And we’re still in the running for Mitchell and possibly Payne. Contenders in 2010.

The Gamecocks open the football season on Thursday night September 3, 2009 against NCState. The Cocks will go down against Russell Wilson and the Wolfpack four nights before the Labor Day Massacre of the Noles over the Canes. What a way to start a season with an ACC spankage of an SEC opponent!

by nole34 on Jul 13, 2009 12:39 AM EDT up reply actions

I agree, that's why I listed him last

Bright will probably be a hard worker and serviceable at the position. Xavier Rhodes is coming along very nicely as well, he’ll redhshirt this year so he can learn the position but they say he has all the tools. Great size as well.

by truenole87 on Jul 10, 2009 6:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Excellent size for the position

Hips are in question, word is they may be a little stiff. If he can learn the position he has the speed and instincts. Plus having a taller corner out there for the redzone, and Greg Carr type receivers is an advantage as well.

by SWFLNole. on Jul 10, 2009 6:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed

I’m interested in what Smith and Haulstead will do, word is that Haulstead is the one likely to have an early impact but I think both will be successful. I love Jimbo and Coley’s recruiting, these last couple years have been a nice change of pace.

by CSI Nole on Jul 10, 2009 6:28 PM EDT up reply actions

He's a fighter

Remember that hold that Jamie Robinson had on the starting FS position? Apparently Parks is coming on strong and it isn’t do to Robinson letting up. I think at the very least he gets substantial time this season.

by truenole87 on Jul 10, 2009 6:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Sure

He is 5’8’’ 165lb defensive back prospect. He makes up for any lack of height with a great wingspan and excellent accelleration. Extremely explosive fast twitch athlete which allows him to deliver great tackles, and provides elite recovery speed. He has great hips and turns and runs in coverage very well, but needs some coaching on technique. I personally think that his best quality is how physical he is in coverage; because of this he is able to play very close to the line of scrimmage when lined up opposite a receiver. He plays safety in high school and some see him there in college, however I think he is destined to be a #1 CB on the next level.

Even more interesting

Darious Cummings is hanging out with him, he’s a great character kid and dedicated to making this one of the top classes in the nation. Maybe he and Lamarcus will be figuring out a gameplan to snag some big fish during showtime (forgive me for my speculation but I like the way this is looking personally). One week from now names like:

De’Joshua Johnson

Lamarcus Joyner
Darrious Cummings
Corey Miller
Brandon Willis
Elliot Porter
Damien Jacobs (also staying the entire week)
Marcus Lattimore
Chris Dunkley
Keion Payne
Christian Green
Christian Jones

will all be on campus (yes I know I left some out), but the reason it has me so excited is that more of these kids are FSU commits or STRONG leans than not. The rest are at least considering FSU. If things go well we could seriously clean up.

Bright keeping the pipelines open?

It is my understanding he is about 6-2.5, 190 pounds now. As you can see from Seminole.com below he was an all state selection. Now what that means is he was the best safety in the state.

He already runs in the 4.4 range. That is faster than Roger what’s his name already and he is now about the same size. 92 tackles? Likes to hit? I wouldn’t casually write the boy off. He may not become another John Lynch but then again he might.

Take note of the 3.4 GPA as it might mean he will actually know how to be in position on the plays he is supposed to cover. After suffering through William’s career I am willing to watch anybody take a crack at it. You know chase the guy who actually has the ball.

“Duncan, SC (Byrnes)
RANKINGS: Ranked the 39th-best safety by Rivals and the 26th-best player in the state of South Carolina… Prep Star All-Southeast selection.
Bio: A three-star prospect according to Rivals and Scout.com who comes from one of the nation’s top high school programs…named an AP All-State selection as a senior…registered 92 tackles and three picks in 2008…Byrnes won three straight state championships and was ranked No. 1 in the USA Today Super 25 to start the 2008 season…as a senior his Rebel squad went 14-1 and finished the year ranked eighth in the nation by MaxPreps and ninth according to USA Today…recorded over 100 tackles as a junior on top of four TFL, six PBU and four interceptions…according to ESPN Bright `thrives on contact’ and he is a `hard hitter’…recorded five tackles in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas…clocked at 4.47 in the 40…posted a high school GPA of 3.4…picked Florida State over offers from Texas A&M and Stanford.”

by DocHoliday2 on Jul 12, 2009 2:19 AM EDT reply actions

Its not a knock on Bright as an individual

But honestly the kids in front of him at both Safety spots have even more impressive resumes. Both Harley and Demps were ranked ahead of him at Safety in the 2009 class alone. Then he has both Moody and Parks that graded ahead of him (also have the edge in age and experience) according to ESPN, Rivals and Scout. Then you have Abrams coming in 2010 who will also be graded ahead of him, most likely a 4 star. Like I said its not a personal attack, but facts or facts, you’re not gonna throw the kid on the field when there are at least 5 other players ahead of him. He’ll be a solid and serviceable player but his real impact will come on special teams (kick off coverage) . . . and keeping the pipeline open lmao. But again anything can happen, he could go into beast mode and prove to be a better player than everyone we’ve recruited. In which case i’ll be ready to eat some humble pie. Either way, i’m not worried about the Safety position in years to come.

by truenole87 on Jul 12, 2009 2:33 AM EDT up reply actions

No offense, but

6’2’’ is an absolute JOKE!

4.4 is way way more ridiculous.

I won’t comment on academics at all, because it wouldnt be fair.

Justin kept the pipeline open. I know rivals wants you to believe otherwise but retards run rivals.

by SWFLNole. on Jul 12, 2009 2:58 AM EDT up reply actions

Lol I was trying to be nice by shedding the light

on how talented the guys in front of him are, but yeah that about sums it up hahaha. The 4.4 definitely made me raise an eyebrow. I was under the impression that he was in the 4.6 range. I just know i’ll be absolutely floored if he moves into some serious playing time. I think he’s a good guy to have on the team and in the locker room, I expect he’ll work hard in practice and the weight room and in turn it’ll put pressure on those ahead of him to give their all. He’s from a powerhouse high school program which means he’s probably very disciplined and coach able, but unfortunately for him none of that is guaranteed to get him on the field.

by truenole87 on Jul 12, 2009 3:12 AM EDT up reply actions

Really?

I think he might be at a D-AA program in a year or two. He kept the pipeline open, anyone who thinks he is 6’2’’ and runs a 4.4 is sippin some stuff I would love to have. They probably also love them some Bobby Bowden.

by SWFLNole. on Jul 12, 2009 3:27 AM EDT up reply actions

Sipping morning coffee

I haven’t measured the guy but scout lists him here as 6.2.5. so all I can go by is what I read. They also say legit 4.5 which I suppose is close to the 4.4.7 mentioned at Seminole.com. Now if you have timed him I will defer to you.

We do have a lot of safeties and that is good but bear in mind Roger Williams ran a 4.58. So we have to be taking a step in the right direction here. Roger was a an excellent tackler and that is about where the superlatives leave off.

Nowhere did I say he was a better prospect than Terrance Parks, Harley or any of the other safeties. Some of you might be reading your own preconceived notions into the equation. The word I read on Harley is he is not exactly a tackling machine though.

The point is you don’t know what the guy will look like after a red shirt year. I have heard the same type summations from the negative nellies when it came to McMahon, Faircloth, Blake Snider, Secord, Nick Bonasorte and Brian Stork who it seems is already serving crow. They say he looks pretty good.

I heard the same thing last year from people who say Stork will never play a down other than special teams. We see how that one pans out also.

As for thoughts on BB that needs no elaboration you check past posts for that one.

I understand why you might have felt attacked

But like I said this wasn’t an attack on Bright, and certainly not on you. But you have you have to admit that the kid probably has one of the toughest battles of anyone on the team in terms of people ahead of him on the depth chart. You’re right, we don’t know what he’ll look like after a redshirt season. But we DO know that the freshman and sophomores ahead of him have the edge in talent today (I count 4 that are here now and 1, with the possibility of another being recruited coming next year). Not only do they have the edge in talent today, but they’ll be gaining serious experience on the field. Its a bleak outlook at best because these talent gaps aren’t small. But like its been said he’s a good kid and maybe he has the stuff to prove us wrong. Until then . . . I’m incredibly confident that we won’t have to deal with marginal talents like Roger Williams in our secondary for the next 4 to 5 years. Roger Williams was the result of poor and lazy recruiting efforts which seem to be a thing of the past right now.

Where is the freshman info on seminoles.com though?

I finally found it

Yeah I agree with what you said he is probably our lowest rated safety but still not a guaranteed bust. There have been walk ons who became all americans.

Very true

Its an uphill battle for him, but I always look at this way: If a kid is able to pass other capable players on the depth chart then i’m happy to see him on the field. The best players will play and if he works his butt off he could prove me wrong.

I am not very high on Bright either but

I don’t think it is fair to call him a bust already. Personally, I hope he proves us all wrong and becomes a great safety here.

Again

I don’t think anyone is calling him so much a bust as we’re all acknowledging how much better the other safeties are.

Damien Jacobs

Is in town for the week as well. These kids could really come together to make our best class in a long time. I’ve always got high hopes but the number 1 class is a real possibility if these guys commit.
