Monday Morning Tomahawks- Tuesday 07.28.09 Edition

Lots of 'Nole news today, so let's get to it.

Star-divide

The Quad Countdown: No. 36 North Carolina State - The Quad Blog - NYTimes.com
The Wolfpack hopes to maintain the momentum developed over last season's late rush to postseason play. As long as quarterback Russell Wilson remains healthy, anything is possible. The problem is they don't play a lick of defense.

Trickett proves ESPN blogger wrong | tallahassee.com | Tallahassee Democrat
Rick Trickett made certain that each of his offensive linemen had a copy. Rick also discusses how excited he is about this offensive line, how they have cut their body fat while getting bigger and stronger, how they are running 30- 110yard sprints, and his trip to the University if Iowa, who runs a similar zone blocking scheme. Trickett spoke with their staff, including their S&C Coach Chris Doyle who is very well thought of. He also discusses Aubrey Phillips a bit more.

Seminoles' cornerback Jenije to graduate early | tallahassee.com | Tallahassee Democrat

The opportunity for Ochuko Jenije to distinguish himself this fall won't be limited to the football field where the junior is the frontrunner for the starting field cornerback position.

Orlando Sentinel - The main attraction: Bobby Bowden … and a couple of nuggets by Andrew Carter
Nobody can draw a crowd to a table quite like Bobby Bowden. He was one of four coaches who met with reporters during the first phase of day two of ACC Media days.  Of course, as you may know, Bowden doesn't have feeling in part of his face, so his speech is a little offf.

Chantrant with a great interview with James Colzie, former FSU great.  Really excellent job.  Addresses fans getting angry about the defense.

Orlando Sentinel - Preseason ACC poll: Florida State picked to win the Atlantic by Andrew Carter
FSU picked to win the Atlantic.

Well well well

I love reading about Trickett. you dont read bad things about him. even the part about the fat kid leaving he was cool about it. Hes trying to do something great here and I hope him and Jimbo can. We need all the good PR we can get right now.

Trickett takes responsibility for the Aubrey Phillips issue

and I respect him greatly for doing so. He admits that he strayed from his formula and got bit. Sounds like he’ll be turning over a few more rocks this recruiting season looking for next year’s class of OL. I wouldn’t expect more than a 3-star type recruit for the last couple OL spots.

IN trickett we trust

I think this guy is great. I dont know about the MA of the past but how close are these two MA in his prime and Trickett. I know back in the day MA was the man,

Have to admit

It really is a good sign that every year we hear about a couple of Noles graduating early. Things like that can be contagious, and even though most players won’t get their degree early at least the culture of the team can be one where studying and making good grades is a desire the players spread among themselves.

I like that we are picked by the majority of the ACC press to win our division. But I always wonder how many reporters pick teams out of habit. With the lack of a true front runner in our division who else would they pick besides FSU?

It shows intelligence and maturity that we desperately need.

And you’re right about us being the default selection. That said, we are probably the best team in our division.

VT is also becoming the default selection in the coastal.

They always seem to go from mediocre to the ACC MNC contender every year.

I'm surprised more people aren't picking Clemson

maybe it’s payback for getting burned last year.

I blame it on Dabo

I think some of the press might not have a lot of faith in Dabo. I know he is high energy but I didn’t see a lot out of him last season. I don’t even think he has been a coordinator before and suddenly he is supposed to lead Clemson to their first ACCCG and their first title since FSU joined the ACC? I wouldn’t vote for the Tigers either.

Clemson is like miami

They will be ok. they have a ton of talent but just cant get it to click just right. I still fear clemson more so than miami because some teams dont need a good coach when they do have talent.

True but

Is Clemson one of those teams? With all the talent they have pulled recently, and the way the ACC has been down, if they were so talented they didn’t need a coach they should have one ACC title in the last 4 or 5 years. With a new coach, new QB and new system on offense I’m expecting Clemson to be 2nd or 3rd in the division.A lot of change at once is not conducive to rapid winning.

1) they say the ACC is down
I dont think it is. The Big east is down the ACC isnt down the ACC teams are getting better. everyone thinks the ACC is down because WF and BC had some good years. FSU and miami took steps back. lets look at down conf. the pac-10 has 1 great team in USC the big 10 has what PSU, OSU, and Wis and we all know what we did to Wis. The big E is going to see the rath of the ACC this year. the big 12 can you say no DEF. and the SEC well F them.
