Preseason All-ACC team announced - ACC - ESPN
Florida State got two- Rodney Hudson and Dekoda Watson. VTech and GTech each had three. Clemson had two, and none on defense which is insane considering their defense is even better than VTech's. BC got two linemen. I can't complain here, because McMahon struggled last year. The Coastal had 14 players, the Atlantic 11.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Florida State senior linebacker Dekoda Watson and junior guard Rodney Hudson earned preseason All-ACC football honors, following Monday's vote by media members attending the league's football kickoff at Grandover Resort.

The Seminoles' lone representatives on the 24-member team, Watson and Hudson were the top vote-getters at their respective positions.

Watson finished fourth on the team with 46 tackles in 2008, despite missing three games and suffering an elbow injury against Colorado in his first appearance of the season. The injury, which required offseason surgery, did not prevent him from posting a career-high 10 tackles and blocking a punt for a safety in the win over the Buffaloes. He closed the season with 28 tackles over the final four games and added a 51-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the Seminoles' Champs Sports Bowl rout of Wisconsin.

Hudson followed up his Freshman All-American campaign in 2007 with an equally-impressive sophomore season, earning first-team All-ACC honors in 2008 as he established himself as one of the top guards in the nation. He participated in a team-high 893 snaps, was penalized only once and allowed one sack while leading all FSU linemen with the top passing or running grade 16 times. Hudson was selected ACC Offensive Linemen of the Week a league-high, three times.

Jajuan Harley

Has there been a more physically impressive incoming freshmen at FSU?? I can’t think of one in recent years.

Question, he’s essentially coming just about where Derrick Brooks was (6-2, 200ish), is there a chance he may grow himself out of safety and into a hybrid OLB?? Given our need at LB, I wonder if MA may try him there in passing situations.

Do we need him more at safety or LB this season??

by FtLauderdaleNole on Jul 29, 2009 3:06 PM EDT reply actions

IMO

His best attribute may be his 4.31 speed. I don’t think he can keep that when he adds the 20 lbs necessary for him to play linebacker. We could use the depth at LB for sure, but I don’t think the coaches will do it. Also, I don’t think the 20 lbs he would have to add very quickly to try to provide any kind of meaningful depth this season would be good weight. I think our recruiting will rectify the depth situation at LB after we get through this year, and I think Harley will remain an imposing safety prospect.

by DKfromVA on Jul 29, 2009 3:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Harley weighs 210

But regardless of that, I don’t think he moves to LB. We have moved numerous players from Safety to LB and I don’t think that trend will continue. Especially with this expected to be MA’s last season. He like smaller LB’s while Jimbo favors LB’s with size that can move as well. More like the Bradham’s of the world. Jajuan Harley is a Safety and pray with everything in me that he stays there.

by truenole87 on Jul 29, 2009 3:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Not to mention

that Jimbo reportedly likes DBs with some size, particularly safeties. At 210 with corner speed (at least straight line corner speed), he could be the kind of physical safety needed to, oh, cover a tight end?

by Wild@Heart Nole on Jul 29, 2009 4:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Nigel Bradham

Harley is a total freak.

FSU is completely done with 225-230lb linebackers after this year. You won’t see a kid under 230 playing backer for us anymore unless he is a situational player of some sort.

Harley will play safety and should be great for us.

I wonder if we don’t see him on kickoff returns… he did it in high school.

by Bud Elliott on Jul 29, 2009 3:12 PM EDT up reply actions

definitely a safety.

I didn’t see any linebacker atrributes in Vroom Vroom’s videos.
Those measurables are plain batty, but it’s so tough to rely on a true Frosh at such an important position. Inconsistenty is almost a given, but the future is blinding.

by The K-Man on Jul 29, 2009 3:33 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Yeah he is a safety

He gets out of position tackling, and LB can’t utilize his recovery speed/ ballhawking.
He is an excellent kick returner as well, he and Reid excelled at it in HS.

by SWFLNole. on Jul 29, 2009 4:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Not Ja'Baris Little

I hope we have the nations fastest kicking squad because they are outrunning him in the Democrat pictures.

by TBfisherman on Jul 29, 2009 3:16 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Little will be serviceable

but Reliford will surprise. Caz will continue to be the consistent hard working contributor that he’s always been.

by truenole87 on Jul 29, 2009 3:58 PM EDT up reply actions

What Caz are you watching? Guy has been irrelevent.

Speed is a great asset; but it's greater when it's combined with quickness - and there's a big difference.
- Ty Cobb

by badknees81 on Jul 29, 2009 6:36 PM EDT up reply actions

The only Caz on the team

TE has more than one job and he does his very well. He isn’t considered a pass catching threat but usually when its thrown his way he makes the play.

by truenole87 on Jul 29, 2009 7:23 PM EDT up reply actions

not knocking the guy at all

Because I think he filled a need admirably even though he wasn’t born to be a tight end. He looked a little awkward on many of his looks last year. I do agree that his blocking was invaluable. From the reports I’ve read, Reliford might be the most potentially lethal TE we’ve had in ages. Hopefully, the BBall agility and pass catching prowess won’t be accompanied by poor blocking ability.

by The K-Man on Jul 29, 2009 7:44 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Oh don't be confused

I’m banking on Reliford in the passing game because he has the athleticism edge on Caz and the work ethic edge on Little (which isn’t saying very much at all). But the coaches have been really impressed with Reliford so hopefully he can contribute a good deal in the passing game this season.

by truenole87 on Jul 29, 2009 7:58 PM EDT up reply actions

He's an absolute beast on NCAA

Good blocker and kills it going over the middle with his height!

by tdchrisdavis on Jul 29, 2009 9:18 PM EDT up reply actions

he’s actually been one of the best tight ends in the conference. We asked him to block and he was better than our starting tackle. And he was in his first year as a tight end after bulking up huge to play tackle for us.

by Bud Elliott on Jul 29, 2009 7:00 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

He is a bona fide extra lineman, I agree. Nothing less, nothing more.

Speed is a great asset; but it's greater when it's combined with quickness - and there's a big difference.
- Ty Cobb

by badknees81 on Jul 29, 2009 8:12 PM EDT up reply actions

I give him more

He’s caught a couple of important passes. Remember, our offense has never been one to LOOK FOR the TE. He’ll have more of an opportunity to make plays if he has to. But I still don’t expect him to be the first TE target.

by truenole87 on Jul 29, 2009 8:17 PM EDT up reply actions

We do or did when we actually had a TE, see Pearsall, Sprague, Henshaw and Warren

Those were different OC’s though.

Only when you include his arm

Like D’Vo. D’Vo was only a special athlete because he could throw. He was never the fastest or strongest for his size. When the arm is added in, it makes a big difference.

by Bud Elliott on Jul 29, 2009 8:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Not sure I follow

AD could do anything, literally, anything on a football field or basketball court. Great arm, great speed, jumping ability through the roof, not to mention his unreal dunking ability and stroke on the b-ball court.

DiShon Platt

was the best athlete in the state. He was better at basketball and football. He owned all those Bradenton kids in track. He made all the Manatee kids, Ft Myers kids, and Venice kids look stupid on the field, and court.

He is the best athlete I’ve ever seen in person, and I have seen a lot of special players.

Did you watch them both play many many times?

I did. Platt’s skills get undersold because he never got to school.

McPherson’s get oversold because of the awards.

Keep in mind, freaking AJ Graham was Mr. Football last year. Who never got recruited by any of the big three.

Ray Finkle

on a side note, P-Dub was a good basketball and football player for the Southeast Seminoles, but the greatest baller and shot caller from that area was “Touchdown” Tommy Frazier. In todays spread offense, he would have been a beast.

Remember when Nebraska played Florida for the NC, and Osborne came out in 5-wides? That was genius. Frazier ran buck-wild that day.

Also, the Gators did that stupid " Ride the Train Choo-Choo" thing before the game and got steam-rolled like a semi running over a turd.

by LincolnHighNole on Jul 29, 2009 9:29 PM EDT up reply actions

He was nuts

So was that game. The 941 represented. Although it was 813 at that point….

by SWFLNole. on Jul 29, 2009 9:38 PM EDT up reply actions

I consider

Cromartie
Moss
Noel Devine
Sean Taylor

Freak athletes. Their speed/acceleration isn’t natural for their size.

by FSUSOM on Jul 29, 2009 10:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Our DBs are shaping up to be ridiculous.

I think these have 1st round talent (assuming their talent translates to on the field production):

Patrick Robinson
Harley
Reid
Parks
Downs if he makes it back….

Pretty good for a team that’s rebuilding talent.

by FSUSOM on Jul 29, 2009 4:30 PM EDT reply actions

Definitely agree

Nick Moody can be scary as well if he really can move as well as the coaches believe. The fact that he’s survived as long as he as with at Safety with MA calling the shots (usually at his size, 235 he would’ve been moved to LB a long time ago). He reportedly runs a 4.5 and he hits like a truck.

Also, you neglected to mention Gerald Demps, I think he’s gone forgotten a bit in this class but he was rated pretty high and is a product of Lowndes.

by truenole87 on Jul 29, 2009 4:37 PM EDT up reply actions

I dunno…maybe it was leftover from 2008-2009 and I just thought it was new.

Thought it odd that it wasn’t higher up. The “film room” link is broken.

Thing is FSU like EVERY major organization exerts whatever control it can. Much as I enjoy this site it is might well be too frank and honest. (Read scathing opinions of staff will be repressed wherever possible…see past work experience Peter Tom Willis)
