I just got off the phone with Coach Shaver from Thomas County Central and he told me that Debrale Smiley has fulfilled all of his core coursework already and only has to take P.E. elective courses this fall to graduate from Junior college. Additionally, he said that Debrale is in great shape at 225, and can make an immediate impact at FSU. Debrale has been "all business".
Anthony still has one core english class requirement to fulfill, but is registered to take the course in the fall. He hasn't lost any of the bad weight from high school, still sitting at around 300 lbs. Coach Shaver thinks he may need a year in the strength program to make a large impact. Coming in January should help that however.
This is huge for FSU as these players both have star potential. They are both being redshirted this season, and because of that, will have three years of eligibility when they get to Florida State. Beyond that, this is a success story for these young men. They were placed in a bottom 15% class at Thomas County and have battled, using football as a vehicle for success, to graduate high school and now Junior college and will receive a free Florida State education because of it.
