A lot of talk this week about how we're somewhere "in the middle" between the BYU game and the JSU game.
As I feared, we are closer to the latter than the former.
Clearly, most underestimated how much went right vs. BYU -- when you are +5 in TO, it's almost impossible to lose.
But that's not all that went right -- do people realize how many times Ponder made first downs by just a bare yard?
Also, made VERY few mistakes -- WR caught virtually everything, O-Line picked up all the blitzes, RB's hit most of the holes.
You just can't use that type of performance as a baseline.
We are VERY young, very inexperienced and we have fractured leadership. That means we are going to lose games -- maybe lots of them. It also means we are going to look great some week. Heck, even as I type this with 4 minutes to go and we're down 10, it's possible we could come back and pull off a miracle.
But if that happens, it won't change reality -- our defense is very suspect, we will make all sorts of youthful mistakes and we have fractured, dysfunctional leadership.
I really hoped -- as Jimbo put it after BYU -- that we had crossed a line with that game. But we haven't. And we won't anytime soon.
