Miami Hurricanes at the Florida State Seminoles Open Thread

Miami Hurricanes at Florida St. Seminoles, Sep 7, 2009 8:00 PM EDT

Welcome to the open thread!  We've hyped it all week.  We previewed the game.  And now one of college football's greatest rivalries is set for another episode.  It's the Hurricanes.  It's the Seminoles.  Labor day.  The Doak.  Use this thread for the first quarter.  Threads for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarters will pop up as the game unfolds.  We will lock this thread at the conclusion of the first quarter.  At that point, go back to the home page and you'll find the thread for the 2nd quarter and so on.  We do this so that the threads don't become impossible to load and re-load, bogged down with 2000+ comments.  There will be a game story shortly after the conclusion.  Remember to follow the rules.  Moderators will delete or hide your comments if you get out of line and they may ban you if need be.  Remember that we also have mobile commenting!  Go Noles!

Agreed

Who has the first interception? UM or US

We'll take the ball first

So I imagined we’ll be sacked first

What's funny is I read the "US" as "U.S."

was thinking to myself, how did politics enter this discussion. :)

Just glad I misread that! Whew.

Also

I mentioned this on another thread, but I bet Moncur plays tonight for UM.

Honestly

We don’t really have any idea how that offense will do. That’s the scary part. As we’ve gotten closer to it, I feel like this game is more up in the air.

things to look foward to

What is this Offense going to do. Are they going to pound it as good as we hope. Are the WR going to be back like last year. how will MA “fastest Def. ever” realy be. Dont get mad guys when Our Def comes to play if miami goes with a pro-style look.

1st play from scrimmage

What should it be?

If Jimbo doesn’t call the WR double reverse pass out of the wildcat I’ll be very disappointed.

What

NO N O N O N O NO NO NO pass plays. the first 2 plays should be Run plays because we dont need to take the chance of the WF game last year. Flashback. No I think we run something right up the gut for 2-3 yrds then zone read off T. then a play action pass for the first.

We're a better run team this year anyway

Why don’t we play to our strengths?

Because Miami will be defending our strengths

A play action pass on the first play of the game would be completely unexpected. Not saying that should be the call, but it doesn’t sound like a terrible one to me.

by truenole87 on Sep 7, 2009 3:47 PM EDT up reply actions

There was a time when FSU would start every game with a bomb.

If it worked, which it did on many occasions, great. If not it would open up the run big time.

I want to see it on the first play if it is open without any chance of the int.

But I'm funny how? I mean, funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh... I'm here to f#*kin' amuse you?

But how sweet would it be IF we did complete several passes in a row? Miami's defense would be up a creek.

You don’t think its worth the risk early on?

When I was there...

back in the late 70’s it was Freds Backdoor Lounge.

by Jaggernaut on Sep 7, 2009 4:09 PM EDT up reply actions

No, Fred's was next to Whattaburger on Tenn & Ocala. Brenda was the barmaid who would yell out

LAST CALL!!! at about 1:55AM

and I would hold up 2 fingers and she would give me 2 to go. Then there was also Fred’s Drydock on Tharpe, but that was further away and not as good.

Fred’s was where I would go after studying or work when my friends would knock on my door at about 1:15 AM to go get last call. We lived up the street on Continental at Berkshire/Chateau De Ville right off HIGH ROAD (which was appropriate). I was there from 01/78 to 12/81, even though I graduated on 12/80. I stuck around for a year until my future wife got her degree. I was the Sgt of Security at Gov Square Mall from when it was under construction until I left.

Sounds like we were there at about the same time. At that time Jax’s Liquors was on Tenn closer to campus near Mike’s Texaco I believe.

I used to “party” with Brenda and Fred’s used to give out diploma’s to students when they graduated. I still have mine.

…but our ground game will be hard to defend, especially if they stay in Cover 2. As they devote a safety to the box, look for the intermediate passing game to open up.

Instead of posting a fanshot...

I figured I’d link to one of my favorite wrestling matches ever: The Rock vs Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania 18 (in 2002). The best part about this match isn’t the actual wrestling – although Hogan hadn’t looked this good in years – but the atmosphere of the stadium. It was at the Skydome, and Canadian crowds are usually wild. This was no exception. The pre-match staredown as the two legends soak in the crowd literally gave me goosebumps.

I wish I was there that night and I wish I was at Doak tonight. Go Noles!
