I am not paying 30 bucks plus Ticketmaster fees though. StubHub had them as cheap as 12 bucks so if I can do that then yes.

Even if you weren't,

Look at our once thought as competition. It was a FSU, USF, Tennessee, Miami battle. USF and Tennessee don’t have coaches, and who knows what Miami is trying to accomplish this recruiting class. I can’t see Mitchell going anywhere else.

This is just a general message to a few TN posters.

What’s up with all the “I must defend my honor and my argument to the death!” sentiment? Forget about pumping up your TN “street cred” by “winning” arguments. Because you just took 12 replies and you decided to take your argument to one technicality of your new-found nemesis’ response you just made yourself an annoying poster. If your little spat with someone isn’t resolved in a couple messages, is suddenly way off-topic, and it now revolves around you then tie it up and move on.

What happened against USF, regarding our O-Line?

I’m sure it was discussed plenty when it happened… Why was USF’s DLine able to school our usually stout OLine? Was it just how they matched up? If so, are there teams on our schedule in the future who present similar matchup problems?

by QNole on Jan 15, 2010 10:52 PM EST reply actions

USF had 2 stud DEs

And didn’t Sanders not play?

Speak softly, and carry a big Spear

by tdchrisdavis on Jan 15, 2010 11:29 PM EST up reply actions

right, Sanderson played

The whole team played poorly agaisnt USF. The defense was atrocious considering they had a frosh QB and were at home. Wideouts fumbled. Backs missed holes. Lots of holes. Ponder didn’t play well. I think it was mostly motivation.

by Bud Elliott on Jan 15, 2010 11:54 PM EST up reply actions

If I remember correctly this was the game Bobby was hamming it up with his buddies from Bama and forgot about the pre-game motivational speech,

causing “the clown” to argue with Jimbo about who would give the pep talk. Neither did and the players went out onto the field dazed and confused.

Of course this is only a “alleged rumor.”

There is no doubt in my mind that if Bobby had come down and given the pre-game speech the players would have been motivated and fired up and we would have crushed USF, turning the season around, and possibly been undefeated heading into the Swamp.

by Miaminole on Jan 17, 2010 10:50 AM EST up reply actions

While still unacceptable, that would be easier to swallow. However,

not doubting you heard that revised rumor, but this was the game that the ’99 team was honored, so I think the players were on the field before the game. Therefore, I choose to believe the original rumor because it always gets the Bowdenistas panties in a big time wad, and that is so much fun to do.

Where were you the other day?

I was pointing out that I thought FSU was pushed around all day by USF’s D line (and others this year) – and not many seemed to agree. Jimbo nailed it in his interview today -- need to get some grown men in the trenches!

by Doak on Jan 16, 2010 12:11 AM EST up reply actions

he actually was talking about defensive linemen

our offensive line lead us to the best rushing attack in the country and was also elite in pass protection.

by Bud Elliott on Jan 16, 2010 1:41 AM EST up reply actions

Best in the country - by what measure?

Qnole was posting about our OL and matchup problems. I agree with you on pass pro – it was very good this year.

by Doak on Jan 16, 2010 9:41 AM EST up reply actions

So by the same stat, UF's rushing offense was right behind ours?

Is this due to the face that they ran up significant rushing yardage against weaker defenses, while FSU’s numbers weren’t as good, but the competition was significantly better?

by Randall W. Spetman on Jan 16, 2010 1:42 PM EST up reply actions

In theory, yes

But I think this is an instance where the stats skew reality a bit. I don’t think any objective fan would say we have best rushing offense in the nation. It’s a great formula they have, but do most people really think that if we needed to run it we could do it more successfully/consistently than, say, Bama or GT? We are not in the same conversation as Bama in my opinion.

by Doak on Jan 16, 2010 2:02 PM EST up reply actions

Right, and I while I understand the logic and statistics backing it up.

I don’t think any rational FSU would contend that given the same competition we’d put up better rushing numbers than teams like GT, Bama, or UF.

I will, however, brag about this and use it to my advantage when making a point whenever possible. :)

by Randall W. Spetman on Jan 16, 2010 2:23 PM EST up reply actions

Bama was #2 in that and I think GTech is up there as well

People don’t realize the quality of rush defenses we faced in my opinion. Bama struggled to run at times this year as well. LSU and Tennessee come to mind.

by Bud Elliott on Jan 16, 2010 2:57 PM EST up reply actions

FSU/Mr. Spetman

FSU: Agree, I underrate quality of opponent, but we’ll probably continue to disagree on us being elite (regarding 2009). Certainly a good running team, but I look forward to next year when we actually move it consistently against our tougher opponents.

Mr. Spet: I will bring up this stat all the time, with great pleasure! Just try to keep it real within the family.

by Doak on Jan 16, 2010 6:06 PM EST up reply actions

The link you posted has Bama as 13 and GT as 4.

I would think that by Bama playing UF, Texas, Tenn, LSU, and VT, that they faced better opponents than we did (UF, Clemson, UNC, USF, aaaaaaand Miami?)

It’s possible that I am reading the chart wrong, but I’m looking under ranking where there is a 1 in the column by FSU.

No doubt that if UF and FSU did not play that our numbers would be juxtaposed.

Sit or stand at Doak?

I have only attended FSU games in Doak so I have nothing else to compare to. I am shocked at the amount of FSU faithful that get so upset at people who want to stand during the games. What gives? I am a stander (only when necessary of course) but have been told to sit numerous times even during a big defense stand. Mind you these people could have stood too but seem rather lazy. How did this mentality start at FSU or am I missing something in game day etiquette here?

by Florida_State on Jan 16, 2010 9:22 AM EST reply actions

Depends on section

Not sure if it’s still the same, but East Endzone and North student section were definitely ‘standing’. On parents weekend I’ve sat on the West zone and into the South side – which is definitely more docile. This was a few years back (Weinke-Rix Era). The last few trips I’ve made to Tally I’ve sat in the U Club – which I’m a big fan of. Kind of pricey if you have to pay yourself, but definitely worth trying. In any event, you shouldn’t feel bad about standing during a big play, regardless of where you are!

by Doak on Jan 16, 2010 9:46 AM EST up reply actions

It's a sign of the times...

When I was a kid, my dad and I would go, and I don’t remember sitting much (especially when Miami or UF was the opponent). It seems that there would be lotsa life for the first half, but back in the days, it died down after halftime, mostly due to a 31-6 FSU lead.

Now, I think the mediocrity of the program has touched the fans, that they have come to expect poop play at times, and it’s not worthy to stand for. Hell, I was downright disappointed at my section at the Gator bowl. BB’s last game, playing in a new years day bowl against a very good team, and they could care less.

JImbo could stand to do some PR in this department. Maybe paint himself Garnet and Gold and show up at the FSU/Duke game later this year. Grab the mic at halftime, and let the fans/students know what they need to do.

by Randall W. Spetman on Jan 16, 2010 1:52 PM EST up reply actions

Hell yes.

When I lived in Hogtown, I went to pretty much every home game that didn’t conflict with FSU (I saw the first ever jump pass in person from about 30 yards away. I almost died laughing while the UF fans went nuts…I’ll say to this day. I’d rather root for a 7-6 FSU team than an undefeated jump pass…terrible)…I digress.

Bottom line, that entire stadium never sits. We sat once, in the Wyoming game….in August…when UF was up 42-7

by Randall W. Spetman on Jan 18, 2010 10:35 PM EST up reply actions

Standers

At the Gator Bowl I had my kids and these losers stood the whole game where my kids couldn’t see anything even when they stood up too. Even when we courteously asked them to sit down they refused. Most of you probably haven’t ventured into parenting yet but when you do you’ll understand how frustrating it is to plan a special event and get your kids excited only to have them not be able to see. Whay is the point of standing anyway except to yell at opposing offenses close to you on key plays?

I have seen a website with I think overall and football, basketball budgets per school, but can’t remember where I saw it. I will try to find it. Obviously schools like Ohio State and Stanford (not included because it’s a private school), among others, have 30+ varsity sports and that must be taken into consideration.

I don’t expect much from Clemson. One of their sites was crowing about Dabo changing history by their winning the division this year. Winning the Atlantic last year was like winning a beauty contest at Notre Dame. Dabo doesn’t strike me as a good coach, their recruiting looks like it will trend down without Bowden, and the linchpin of their entire offense is gone.

or maybe.....

We’ve made a significant move and landed a silent from Ego or flipped Dorsey. Lot’s of Miami references out of Coley the past few days…..maybe he’s managed to pull Ego, Dorsey, and Lemonier!! We’ll just have to wait and see.

by Warchant-7 on Jan 23, 2010 10:00 AM EST up reply actions

Lemonier though…I’ve been waiting for that news a while.

by Nole2005 on Jan 23, 2010 3:14 PM EST up reply actions

Agree about...

Dorsey. However, it would be nice to snake one from the Gators.

What’s your stance on Ego? Because I would be extremely excited to land him, and think he’d be a great pull and addition to this class. He addresses a position of immediate need on our defensive front at SDE.

Now, I don’t think he is an immediate contributor, but I think Ego is more game ready at the NCAA level than Lemonier. Given the depth situation upfront, especially at SDE, he could prove to be a more valuable get than Lemonier in the short term.

So although I’m in the upside boat with Lemonier, I’m also siding with Ego and his ability to make a contribution if needed in the short term.

California Girls

I thought I would start this thread as I was taking up space on the Dorsey thread.

Contrary to the opinion of some on the TN, Los Angeles does have beautiful women. The coeds at USC are gorgeous, but FSU can give them a run for their money.

LA is a “young person’s” town, because of the Entertainment industry, and there is alot of youth here.

What LA is lacking is not beauty, but brains. There are many idiots in this city. It drives me crazy. But, I believe it was Twain who said,
