Orlando (Dr. Phillips) wide receiver Kenny Shaw commits to Florida State

Another one for the 'Noles.  Shaw had other offers from UF, Miami, LSU, UGA, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Michigan, and Ohio State.  Shaw committed today during the UA Game.

VITALS:

Hometown: Orlando, FL (Dr. Phillips High)
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 175 lbs.
40-yd dash: 4.5
ESPN Rating: 81
Rivals.com Rating: 4*, 5.8, WR #25

Kenny Shaw 2008 Highlights (viaUltimateProspects)

He's a very crisp player, and he runs great routes.  Because he needs to gain weight, he will probably redshirt when he gets on campus.  Those might be Shaw's three biggest assets:  speed, polish, and route running.  Shaw is just so smooth when he runs and cuts. His ability to get separation is outstanding.  He will most likely play in the slot while at Florida State.  It will be fun watching him catch footballs from EJ Manuel.

Here is some video from the Gridiron Kings event:

Shaw will have to gain weight when he gets to FSU.  He is very skinny, with thin wrists and ankles.

Some tidbits:

Shaw -- who is up to 18 scholarship offers including Michigan, Florida State and South Carolina -- ran smooth, precise routes and showed more than adequate speed.

More:

There were several national-caliber WRs in Tallahassee, but Shaw's dominating effort made the MVP selection and easy one for the WR staff. A second team all-state pick last fall after setting school records with 64 catches for 914 yards and 10 TDs, Shaw possesses a great combination of raw speed and route-running ability, and was able to create separation from DBs all day long.

And now, I really want him in this class.  He's made a believer out of me and many others with his Showtime performance, 7 on 7 performances, and his Gridiron Kings video.

Comparison?  Marvin "Snoop" Minnis.

I expect Christian Green, Jared Haggins, and DJ Johnson to round out the receiver class.

All in all, a very solid pickup for FSU.

The TomahawkNation.com recruiting map has been updated to reflect the commitment.

I should've watched the Youtube vid in its entirety before posting that.

He does resemble Bert Reed, but Minnis is closer I think. He just looks looser than Reed. His stride looks so smooth in the 7on7.

In his game footage his cuts are so minimal, but very effective. He values using his speed to get up field and doesn’t seem to be too much of a dancer.

im pretty high on shaw now

but bert imo is a bigger game changer type, might not be as fluid as shaw but berts top end speed is special

I got to be honest.

I don’t think Bert is a game changer. I have yet to see him hit the home run very often. I can only think of that play where he got that backdoor reverse against I think Maryland.

yea not yet

but im sayin game changer type, berts speed is just electric, and with that speed it only takes one missed tackle and hes gone. imo bert was our best wr this season, one could argue rod owens case, but man bert made some catches\plays that made me just jump out my chair, very dependable.

Vic,

I love your show man- very highbrow. Also, as for the Gator Bowl, I only hoped it, but you actually called it.

Even though this was expeted

I’m still pumped…He’s a great reciever

Excellent looking receiver.

Two things that stand out from the highlight reel.

1.) Kenny catches everything with his hands.
2.) He is always open. A QBs dream.

I noticed on several of his TDs he was not the only reciever open. The QB (#7) really likes throwing the ball to Kenny.

The comparison to Marvin Minnis is “spot on”.

Is he the last of our “silents”? I know C.Jones has been perceived as a “silent” but he alongwith Green makes me nervous as I dont think they are “silents”.

Jessie Hester

Reminds me of Jessie. Smooth, great routes, good hands, natural hands-doesn’t fight the ball.

Really liked the comparison to Marvin Harrison

On the broadcast of the UA game, they compared Kenny to Marvin Harrison. This seems to be about the best comparison I’ve seen, both run great routes, are fast but not burners, and are always open. Also they are of similar statures, especially after Kenny gets in the weightroom at FSU.

OFF TOPIC but

anyone else watching ECU – Arkansas and the wonderful job Hudson is doing.. I’m impressed thus far. I know Arkansas isnt exactly Florida (or anywhere close to it) but they’ve really outdone themselves by not allowing a 3rd down conversion so far.

Also, goes to show what a good DL can do to help out the back 7 (unlike 2009 FSU)

Is Hudson Coaching this game?

I thought the new staff was having a meeting in tallahassee today.

sounds a lot like Kev McCorvey

we haven’t had many WR’s known for crisp routes and separation like that.

I thought the exact same thing and was gonna post it.

Kez was 6’0, 184lbs when he played for the Lions. He was Charlie’s go to. He had little flash, but boy was he integral to those ’93 and ’94 seasons.

His best moment

Was when he hugged his sister with the gator hat, and them grabbed te Seminole hat from his dad. My brother, a gator fan, was right there with me ad he was so pissed. Oh it’s my first post. Been a Nole since I was four years old back in 1990. Fear the Spear!!!

Nice pickup

Welcome to the Noles. Great highlight reel, lots of footage. I love the play at 4:12 on the video. He Immediatly recognizes the QB is in trouble and comes back for the qick out! great prospect.

Kenny Shaw needs to play at 190 i think we would still remain electric fast but be a little stronger an can fight for passes in traffic What do you guys think?
