Couple things

Cobbled together from a few sources:

“Though, the first report from Senior Bowl practice noted that Rolle was "rusty" and that his "footwork was inconsistent." The National Football Post added some positive news about Rolle’s physical condition. Wes Bunting noted that he had "by far the most chiseled body of the day" and came in at a shade over 6′1″ and weighed 217 pounds. While he probably won’t go in the top 50 of April’s draft, Rolle could end up being a quality contributor in the NFL.”

Myron’s Site:
“On Monday afternoon the South Team held their first practice. Myron did very well according to the feedback he received from the NFL Teams in attendance, in his first action back on the football field since the Champs Sports Bowl in 2008 for the Noles’. He had an interception on 1 on 1’s and one scout told him after practice that "he looked physical and had really good feet".”

Raven’s Scout:
“By the way, they must have a heck of a workout program at Oxford because Myron Rolle was the most impressive physique BY FAR”

I was kinda surprised by something I saw on Myron

One site I was reading gave Myron a “2” for intangibles, with 1 being the best. It has like a paragraph saying he won the Rhodes Scholarship, opened clincis, etc. Except for maybe shooting laserbeams from his d!ck, I’m not sure what else someone can do to get the top grade in that category.

on field leadership and passion

i loved rolle but they might not see that passion in him that some of the better players have. possibly evidenced by the fact he went to oxford. i’m not saying that was the wrong decision but he clearly picked that over football so it probably keeps him from getting a “1” for intangibles.

I see your point

I think Myron is a leader. But I can only base that off what I see and the quotes I read. It seemed like he commanded his teammates respect. Either way, you’re probably right in your reasoning.

I saw that Cal is spening millions to make their stadium smaller, but making imporvements to make it louder...

How you feel if Doak was reduced to 70,000 seats but they changed the acoustics to make it twice as loud on gameday??

by NaGaNole on Jan 27, 2010 8:55 AM EST reply actions

I think they should

add those bleachers up on top of the press boxes like LSU has and change the bleachers on the sidelines to actual seats. It would increase capacity, but only slightly since many bleacher spots would be changed to seats. I also think the higher and steeper bleachers would help contain the sound.

by FSUPhi1584 on Jan 27, 2010 9:45 AM EST up reply actions

Hypothetical ?

IF the Noles enjoy the kind of success we hop they will, would any stadium improvements be in order? I’m not an engineer and have never seen blueprints of DCS. What else is possible given the right amount of $

by Scalpemall on Jan 27, 2010 12:58 PM EST up reply actions

Are you talking improvements or capacity additions?

Because I definitely think we can upgrade the “concourse” under the stadium (concessions, restrooms, lighting, flat screen tv’s, etc.). I don’t think it’s necessary to increase the number of seats. The only change to the inside of the stadium I would make is below the main scoreboard. You know where that sheet hangs with all of our accomplishments? Just make it a solid wall or something with the accomplishments actually painted on. Feel free to repaint it every year with an updated design like we do each year with a new sheet. Either that or just get rid of it. There are many times when you can’t even see what’s on it because of the light shining through from the other side.

by tricknole on Jan 30, 2010 1:36 PM EST up reply actions

I don't necessarily think adding more seats would necessarily make sense until we see attendance ....

consistently rise. I was speaking more about what structurally would be possible if the need arose AND the money was there. I agree completely about the concourse area. It just doesn’t give that “awesome” first impression like the facade. Brick, statues, stained glass etc. really impress IMHO.

by Scalpemall on Jan 30, 2010 1:58 PM EST up reply actions

What the hell are you guys talking about?

The only good reason to waste money on the stadium to to improve the acoustics to capture and reverberate the sound back toward the field.

by NoleLaw on Jan 30, 2010 3:52 PM EST up reply actions

Surprised MattD didn't say "\definitive".

The sound is fine when it’s packed and we’re good.

by tricknole on Jan 31, 2010 6:27 PM EST up reply actions

Other stadiums are louder

Changing the sheet to a solid wall might help.
Improvements to the concourse are a luxury that do not translate into on-field success. Making it louder helps the game atmosphere for recruits. Agree that packing the stadium helps a lot too. If we have the dough to spend on the concourse, I’d rather spend it on things that either help the team like an indoor practice facility, support personnel, or things that help recruiting. Seems like we are on a hamburger budget compared to bigger schools. I am still unclear about the difference between the facilities and support.

by NoleLaw on Feb 1, 2010 12:54 AM EST up reply actions

We're talking about visual aesthetic pleasantries

Not functionallity in any sense of the word! This is hypothetical, for instance having all bills paid and having enough for either a hamburger or a cheap hooker. Can ya dig?

by Scalpemall on Feb 1, 2010 1:26 PM EST up reply actions

I can dig.

I started off with the main topic which was modifying the stadium to make it louder, functionally.

I saw that Cal is spening millions to make their stadium smaller, but making imporvements to make it louder… How you feel if Doak was reduced to 70,000 seats but they changed the acoustics to make it twice as loud on gameday??

Adding seats up high to make it more like a cylinder than a bowl, can help to trap the noise, then someone started talking about improving the concourse or whatever.
Putting a wall instead of a sheet will also help bounce sound back toward the field.

They're doing it because the stadium is literally falling apart.

And it’s built on a fault line. I would rather keep our capacity. It’s not like our stadium is quiet when full and the team is winning…

All I know is:
The typical strength of the Earth’s magnetic field at its surface is around a half a gauss. So those are everyday units of magnetic fields. There are 10,000 gauss in one tesla. The magnets that we have here at the Magnet Lab range anywhere from 20 tesla all the way up to to 45 tesla for DC fields. In pulsed fields, they can go as high as 100 tesla, and even higher.

My concern now is...

we have discussed the need for depth along the DL ad nauseam yet we list all three true freshmen DT’s were bring in (Jacobs, Erving and unnamed commitment likely to be Smith) as redshirting next season. Does that mean we are gonna roll with just 4 DTs? Doesn’t that seem exceptionally thin? I’d be surprised if all three of them were to redshirt in this situation.

Also, now it appears we might bring in as many as 4 more DL (Werner, Smith, Lemonier and God willing, Ferguson). That puts us at or near 17, now if we count Jackson as an casualty of the program and then think of Markus’s graduation, we’d be at 15 players. Are we going to be able to sign anyone from the deep talent pool in next year’s DL class with that many DLmen on roster?

by AMFKNole on Jan 28, 2010 1:43 PM EST reply actions

Yeah that’s essentially how I resolved this in my mind, “Cross that bridge when we come to it” but it’s just something that hit me. I’m guessing the flex will be the ever understanding Dawkins (team player of the year). I’d say that him moving inside on third and long situations where rushing the passer is the chief concern could be a plus.

Is playing in the 2012 Championship Game optimistic or pessimistic?

I have been reading articles/threads on this great site for weeks now. While driving this morning to my cold site in Kings Mountain, NC, I started thinking about how all this great information comes together for our upcoming seasons. I came up with my best realistic outlook of our national championship chances without getting bogged down in stats and keeping the overall picture simple.

A) 2010 – DEFENSE. Inexperience and a new defensive coordinator will keep us out of national championship contention. Ponder will be remembered as the QB who helped bring our offense back to national recognition though. I see an improved record wtih a chance to play in the conference championship. Top 20 final ranking.

2) 2011 – OFFENSE. Inexperience of E.J. will hinder our chances of making it to the national championship game. Our defense should start to come into their own with bigger and better coached players. Same outcome as previous year. National acknowledgement that FSU really has returned with a very good 2012 preseason ranking.

D) 2012 – VERY POSSIBLE. A mature E.J. should be a fine field general with many weapons at his disposal. Defense continues to become the dominant force in the conference. Very possible shot at playing in national championship game.

Again, this is just my best conjecture for our future…

by SE Nole on Jan 28, 2010 2:19 PM EST reply actions

Agree for the most part that it is a very distinct possibility, but...

…the schedule (as it stands now) in 2012 scares the poop out of me

by Pinto on Jan 28, 2010 2:23 PM EST up reply actions

I agree about the schedule

Home: UF, BC, Clempson, Air Force, Wake, Duke
Away: UM, NCST, VT, Maryland, WVU, USF

That is a murderers row. Since Jimbo has state his preference is easier out of conf matchups, I wonder if he will try to back out of some of these. If so, Air Force or WVU would be the likely culprit. I doubt the school would drop USF since it could be a “revenge” game for the debacle at Doak last fall. I do think we will be a very deep and excellent football team, but if this schedule stays the same…WOW. I would be thrilled with a ACC title and a BCS game.

I'm not scared of either of them.

I don’t see us trying to drop Air Force. Maybe WVU.

by tricknole on Jan 30, 2010 1:49 PM EST up reply actions

Air Force

Only lost to TCU by 3 and Utah by 7. I believe they also had the #10 D before the bowl games. They lost at Navy by 3 and beat Houston in their bowl game, holding Houston to just 20. They run the wishbone option similar to Navy & GT. Not an easy O to prepare for.

It would be a “should win” game (like USF was this season), but not a game where we would be pulling our starters at the half. I’m not scared of them, but they are in the same class as WVU and USF. It’s a team that has everything to gain and nothing to lose. There is no good reason to play those sort of OOC games.

by NoleLaw on Feb 1, 2010 1:03 AM EST up reply actions

I put USF higher up than Air Force.

Maybe that’s just me. I wouldn’t drop them. Something about “being afraid” of a service academy and how dropping them would look. I’d have no problem with dropping WVU for an FIU, though. I want to pound USF back into the 20th century, so I wouldn’t end the “series” with them until after that.

Actually it is state of the art.

The special effects, the editing, everything. Problem is viewers suffer from a severe optical allusion. This is because the show features Gene, Bobby, and Burt. That is about 215 YEARS (seriously…if you add all of their ages its around there) combined of acting, announcing, and coaching awesomeness. Nothing short of bringing in James Cameron with some Avatar effects would help get rid of the dusty illusion. But even then it would still look like a local news program.

Judging by the reaction to her performance and picking up 4 awards, it appears that Taylor Swift might be about to receive the unfair backlash that comes with success.

I thought the performance was good. It’s hard to sound good with the Stevie Nicks goat bleating in your ear and when she was singing her own songs they sounded fine. I appreciated her putting a different spin on “You Belong With Me” and not playing that song the same way we’ve heard it 1000 times.

" Fisher’s approach to building a winner is lifted from Saban’s playbook. Right down to the terminology such as becoming more "process oriented" as opposed to "results oriented."

" Nick and I are friends," he said. "That guy is one of the best football coaches I’ve ever been around. God knows he’s brilliant. … A lot of the things he believes are a lot of things I believe. We’re very similar!

The process begins!

Greetings, NSD survivors

Continuing this epic week, I am moving today, so I probably will not be on much for the next few days. It’s going to be weird since I’ve been checking this site so much in the last few days. I actually logged on here one night and signed out without checking my email or facebook. XD

I know someone said it somewhere, but Tomahawk Nation is my Cuban coffee.

Random thought.

You know the Sunday Morning QB article here?

I keep thinking about how many players on those All American teams that are O-Line. Every All American team has a two deep, correct? Then I think about how few O-Line kids rate above 3* on rivals. Very few. I think this screws up the distribution even more than the authors recognize.

Would be interesting to do the same analysis they do by position group.

OoOOOoooOOoOoOoOOOOOO!

Any chance that Urban’s dinner with Christain Green could constitute a recruiting violation? Somehow forcing a recruit to forefit an official when knowing that said official was planned prior to the current unofficial? Or something like that. You know what I mean.

Forgive me. I am sleep deprived.

Yes, I meant Mr. Jones. Obviously Urbie knows the rules of what makes a visit official. I don’t know if I would expect a recruit to know it quite as well. So for Urbie to do that to him knowing he was going to USC… Is that a violation of some kind?

SID department

Is it just me our is Jimbo and/or our SID department working overtime. ESPNU on NSD. ESPN.com reporters and warchant guys in the War Room on NSD. I think they let some reporters from Fanhouse.com in there too. I can’t remember the last time FSU had a positive media blitz like this.

by osceolafan850 on Feb 6, 2010 6:03 PM EST reply actions

Heh... SID department.

Isn’t that kind of like saying ATM machine?

by DutchFSU on Feb 6, 2010 9:05 PM EST up reply actions

This just in.

Corey Lemonier LOVES HIS GUNS and cars, but mostly guns. Just funny pics. Don’t think he is a bad kid and still wish we got his signature.

I really hope Jimbo locks down facebook for our players. I don’t think Corey’s pics are that bad honestly. I used to think that players should be allowed to have Facebook accounts. I’m starting to think otherwise. Maybe it should be a privilege of jrs and srs that have shown they are responsible enough to not post dumb stuff? I don’t know. I am aware that FSU players have posted some pretty bad/dumb/irresponsible stuff. Kids have to realize, people are paying attention (sometimes way, way too much attention) to the crap they put up.

HA! so true

Especially if the get away car is a corvette. Nothing says organized criminal like robbing someone with a flintlock then jumping into a 500 hp convertible.

spring game will be an actual game

as I understand it, thus much more fun for the fans.

The problem is that it’s still hard for we who are fans but who must travel a good distance for a practice game. It would require a 2 night hotel stay for us, e.g., which is hard to justify. I think that if they had other events going on – a baseball series, e.g., they would have better attendance.

by ladyjustice on Feb 8, 2010 2:24 PM EST up reply actions

There's often a baseball series.

This year there is the FSU/UF lacrosse game in the stadium before the Spring Game. Always exciting. (No, not being sarcastic. Lacrosse is sweet.)

by tricknole on Feb 8, 2010 4:29 PM EST up reply actions

I suppose we could get up very early

You’re still talking about a 12 hour round trip (if you don’t stop) just for a spring FB game, not to mention a hotel stay.

I could justify it if there were some other event going on, but a spring game, probably not.

by ladyjustice on Feb 12, 2010 4:55 PM EST up reply actions

I agree, not worth it just for a Spring game. But 12 hour round trip from Broward? Your nickname must be Trixie, because you're probably Speed Racer's girlfriend.

I have never broken 6.5 hours from South Broward, and usually closer to 7. Congrats, Trixie.

Will the new nutritional programs for football also be applied to other sports?

Men’s Basketball for example eats at restaurants on the road like Boston Market and Cheesecake Factory. I’d love to see Solomon Alabi get in a top quality nutritional program and build up his strength some more.

Alright guys

I have to say that you failed me utterly over the weekend when I was in my apartment due to 2 ft of snow being on the ground. Not nearly enough activity in here. Work is closed tomorrow (potentially), as we could see another 2 ft of the stuff. I’m looking forward to some good conversation on here.

Not exactly snowed in

here in Florida. I have seen some video. Amazing amounts of snow. Stay warm.

But if there isn’t enough conversation for you, just start a Fanpost filled with definitive statements based on zero facts. Make sure you throw in “According to my friend NextLevel” and I’m sure you will have plenty of responses and healthy debate.

Not gonna lie, I kinda want to see "Valentine's Day" this weekend.

Looks a bit like an American “Love Actually” which was an awesome movie. Plus it’s got Taylor in it.

But how is a self respecting 25 year old dude supposed to go see that movie on this of all weekends?

Hope this doesn’t shatter the image you people have of me. I had to get that off my chest and I’m banking on the fact that no one will read this since it’s not on the front page anymore.

Too many stars...

I think it’ll be another “He’s just not that into you”

by Scalpemall on Feb 11, 2010 4:48 PM EST up reply actions

I didn't see that one.

When you think about it though, Love Actually had a ton of stars too. It’s just that they were all British and un-threatening. It didn’t have someone like Julia Roberts trying to gobble up the scenery.

"Love Actually" was pretty good.

Have to admit, though, Matt, I didn’t peg you as a romcom kinda guy. I may have to find a new internet boyfriend.
