FSU GRADES FOR THE CANE GAME
OFFENSE
QB= A-.... Did a great job in managing the game and taking what the defense gave him.
RB= A.... Really benefited from the O-line, but they not only found the holes but him them hard.We really got a gem in Gran.
WR= A-.... They played well as a group, nothing spectacular but they played confidently and mature.
TE= A+.... I really think the play of Reliford and play calling should really help in O'Leary saga.
OL=A++.... Hands down the best this unit has ever performed. I really though the UM front seven would have a hay day, to my surprise we just dominated the trenches.
DEFENSE
DL= A+.... Brandon Jenkins is a stud. They clearly on the same page and have a lot of energy. Very impressed with the energy and tenacity of this group. Vic Voloira (spelling?) really deserves a lot of credit for the play of this group.
LB= A..... The play of Mister Alexander has been nice. Bradham and Smith are really playing with their heads this year. More coaching credit is due here.
CB= B+.. Harris and Rhodes are truly the assets of this group. Reid's size and ability to tackle are going to be the liability of this defense. I know everyone loves him but I see him giving up some big plays this year. I am starting to see what all the hype is over Rhodes, he truly is the real deal.
S= A- ..... They did a great job of not giving up any big plays. However because of the domination up front they really didn't get challenged that much.

I would give the corners an A- and the QB and WR's B+

Agree with the QB rating (CP7s single INT is a factor)
but I wouldn’t fault the WR corps. Lets not forget that we had twelve catches for 173 yards (8.2 YPA, 14.4 YPC) and eight of them were for a first down. Fairly impressive when you consider the competition we were playing. In a hostile environment, no less.
DISCLAIMER: Everything posted by DutchFSU operates under the premise that Christian Ponder remains healthy during the entire 2010 football season. As well as the entire Seminole offensive line, most of the cheerleaders, and quite a few of those seated in the student section. Maybe even a hot dog vendor.
Also had 3 drops on only 21 passes
This team will improve in '10... on its 16-16 conference record over the last 4 years.... after losing 20 games in the last 4 years... after having the 7th worst major-conference defense... after not even winning its own division in the ACC in the last 4.

I thought we had at LEAST 4
Bert definitely dropped 2 maybe 3 especially early in the game. Haulstead dropped 2 on the exact same comeback route the only two times that play was called.

the first bert drop would have been a ridiculous catch
not sure I’d put that on bert
Ponder only really had two really bad throws, one on the first series, and the one for the int (into triple coverage). But even that worked out, since it was basically a punt inside the Miami 5 yard line.
INT
was 3rd and 8 & we were out of FG range so turned out to an excellent punt
5-10 yards and we are in FG range. . .
I really wanted 3 points there

He threw into TRIPLE coverage
Not a good decision IMO
Wants to live in a world where Batting Average goes the way of the Dodo!
This is why I agree that the INT was not a "good punt"
It ended up being that, but it was statistically the wrong decision and the right one might have netted a 1st. Triple coverage means someone else is open or 1v1, which means a much higher % throw is available elsewhere (and worst case you can still punt on 4th down).
Also, we had converted on 3rd and 10, 11, and 1 while failing on 3rd and 10, 10, and 3 up to that point. While that isn’t the whole story, it wasn’t like we were unable to convert and we certainly weren’t having trouble punting.
Please, can we, as Noles and as an intelligent fan base, NEVER use this line of thinking?
I implore all of you/us to not say that phrase. Taking potential points off the board and giving the ball to your opponent is never “good”.
MiNDSET? SWAG-ER-ISM!!!

I think your grading scale is a bit lenient...
2 drops for Reed and 2 drops for Haulstead doesn’t equal an A- for the group. The DL did a good job, but didn’t get enough pass rush from the front-4 on quite a few plays to deserve an A+. We haven’t had a TE deserve an A+ in at least 15 years.
Team Gold - Winner of the 1st TN FSU Spring Football Fantasy Draft
Down field blocking(blocking in general) by WR's.
They made key catches, so I can understand the A- grade. Smith may be ready to step up now, with a great TD catch. I think Willie is finally emerging as WR.
FEAR THE SPEAR!!!!!!!!!
Why does Reliford get such a high rating, he looked as blah as he always does, at least to me. O’Leary will barely let him see the field next year.
Thought he blocked decently

he's improving
had decent game overall. probably 1st time ever our TE outplayed Miami’s
I say let them play.
We can say there is holding on every play, but if someone has the desire to get to the QB they will find a way. I honestly think Werner should be starting over White. Or even move White to the other side, Kid plays with passion and thats what we need.
Returning to Dominance... Sooner then later.
I thought White played one of his best games
Especially in the first half. He was all over the place.
He's been very good lately
Considering his knee slowing him down. Never what we thought what we were getting but pretty good at keeping the spot warm till Bjoern is ready.
Shot a Gator in Jean Shorts just to watch him die.
White is not a WDE, Werner is still very raw I'm fine with waiting on him and just rotating him more
It is not possible to get to the QB if you are held well by a good offensive lineman.

White is playing well

could not move to the other side cause Brandon Jenkins is leading the team in sacks...
but he is an absolute stud, and i will enjoy the next few years watching him and the rest of this d dominate opposing offenses.GO NOLES! WE SEEM TO HAVE FINALLY ARRIVED,SOMETHING I HAVE BEEN SKEPTICAL ABOUT SAYING OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS.i expect to see this team get better and better with improved play at WR giving Ponder more trust in the passing game and the defense is just plain scary when your talking about potential.
It's not that you should've been skeptical
You literally couldn’t say it in the past decade. Our coaching staff of the last decade would’ve struggled in the MAC.
You can say the "the players are the ones making the plays or not" argument all day
But if the right players aren’t recruited (and first evaluated), developed properly, taught the system and put in positions to succeed and (more importantly) KNOW WHY they succeeded then don’t expect much, if any, success. This isn’t the 1990’s where our players are just flat out BETTER than everyone else’s and good schemes matter more now than ever.
Refs.
For once they get an A-.

Not from me-I give them a C- at best
They missed:
A) At least 4 holding calls by the Miami line.
2) Canes facemasking FSU players on two occasions.
D) At least two horse-collar tackles (one by us)
AA) A couple of high tackles on both sides where people led with the helmet.
A2) The Lamarcus Joyner Interference call that wasn’t.
Miami composure absolutely fell apart in the game and they were grabbing at anything on Saturday night. If refs had called a tight game like the NCAA really wants them to, UM would have had at least 7 fewer points on the board.
All told, I say the ACC refs have remained steadfastly committed to the levels of performance that we have come to expect from them.

Yes, I agree--irony
But it was missing D) and A2) that led me to give them the better grade. . . .

I rewatched the game last night and focused on only the OL and DL's to refute a Cane friend's assertion that FSU's OL was holding every play.
There were 7 uncalled holds by Miami players and 4 uncalled holds by Noles.
There was also the missed facemask on Reid’s punt return and the weak late hit against Joyner.
Jacory got blatantly horsecollared on his 1st quarter scramble and Rhodes should have been called for PI on the deep ball down the sideline.
I think the officials let them play and I thought it pretty much evened out.
Wrong on Rhodes
down sideline. Didn’t touch, face guarded, allowed in college football.

Well hot damn.
You are correct. This is straight from the NCAA rulebook:
Physical contact is required to establish interference.
I learned something today.

hehe.
Good times. And it is a good thing he did, receiver lost site of ball. If he didn’t it would have been a big catch.

I thought he had his left for-arm on the WR
"…You can't get enough Lonnie Pryors on your football team." -Eddie Gran
You're allowed to feel out the receiver.
You can’t play DB just using your eyes. As long as he wasn’t shoving or grabbing, touching is quite OK.
what arrdub said
he may have had a hand on him but was not altering his stride/position. Wasn’t grabbing or pulling.
