Playing Alabama in the 2013 Opener a Possibility?
Andrew Carter drops this small tid bit in yesterday's blog about Ponder's status. That would certainly go against what type of scheduling we thought we'd see from Jimbo, doesn't it?

Boooo!
Nothing to gain from that match-up other than beating the ever living crap out of our players whether we win or lose.

I certainly hope not.
Our out of conference schedule would be: Alabama (neutral site), at Florida, at West Virginia, and Nevada at home.
There was a time that Nevada would look to be an easy game, but currently they’re 8-1, ranked 21, and who knows how good or bad they’ll be in 2-3 years.
In conference, for our in division games it is a year that we play at Clemson and at Boston College (reliably our two most difficult in division games— both away). Out out of division games are: Miami, Virginia Tech, and at Georgia Tech (Arguably the best 3 teams in the Coastal, particularly if UNC gets penalized for this year’s situation).
Perhaps we could find a way to add Oregon, Ohio State, Texas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska in somewhere too.
And the New England Patriots while we are at it.

then we can play the NFC pro bowl squad

I'm pretty sure
Rooney would have put up a hundred yards and a score last week against our defense, the way they played.
I'd take the United for my schedule.
What a bunch of wusses. Can’t tackle for crap.
DISCLAIMER: Everything posted by DutchFSU operates under the premise that Christian Ponder remains healthy during the entire 2010 football season. As well as the entire Seminole offensive line, most of the cheerleaders, and quite a few of those seated in the student section. Maybe even a hot dog vendor.
I hope Fisher doesn't cave...is this about money cause he shot the idea down hard at the begining of the year?

I want Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, or LSU
NOT Alabama. The 2013 is possibly our National Title season….perhaps our repeat season.
And that’s AFTER EJ leaves.
Prob referring to "if" we had another SEC opponent, he would pick one those mentioned over Bama

This team will improve in '10... on its 16-16 conference record over the last 4 years.... after losing 20 games in the last 4 years... after having the 7th worst major-conference defense... after not even winning its own division in the ACC in the last 4.

Not really sure how to take these comments by Spetman:
Spetman elaborated on what BCS-conference programs like FSU look for when creating a non-conference schedule.
"We want to play a quality opponent that will help us with our national rankings," he said. "We want to be able to compete at that level. We also have to be careful to balance it against our conference schedule, to make sure our non-conference schedule isn’t so tough that we wouldn’t be successful."
Does an independent BYU team fit into that category?
"BYU’s got a tremendous reputation and tradition," Spetman said. "Our objective is to have the stadium filled and programs like BYU will help us do that when they play on our campus.
"They’re also a great destination for when our fans travel with us. Last year, when we came to BYU, I think we brought around 6,000 fans with us. They were extremely impressed with the stadium. It was a great trip for the fans that want to go. … I think the likelihood that we would be playing the Cougars again is pretty good."

BYU is fine.
Alabama is definitely not.
And we better not go out there

Playing a BYU is fine as long as it's only a home game and not a home/home?
I would definitely prefer 2 scrubs, a lower level BCS type team (Vandy, Wazzu, etc) and then UF to 3 scrubs and UF. Have to give me at least one “name” school even if their team is crap.

Spetman has such a hard on for the MWC since being the AD for Air Force its sick
He would have us playing Wyoming, Colorado State, San Diego State and (if they stayed) Utah as AWAY games if he could.
He HAS to be driving this cause Jimbo made his opinion very clear. I want him gone too!
If he presses this through I want the public “down with Spetman” ramped up.

Idk
Depending on how we improve, I wouldn’t mind playing Bama. i don’t the opener would be wise, but it’d be awesome to rub it in to all the Bama fans around here (There are more in NwFL than UF and FSU fans combined, they’re everywhere)
just remind them of our last match up
No need to play them again

screw alabama...
i live in alabama and i can promise you there is not a team outside the state of florida that i would get more pleasure beating. from a schedule standpoint, it makes no sense, but still whooping the tide like we did in 07 would be great. i remember keith brown wide out for the tide finally got them on the board with a td, only problem is he got knocked out cold on the play, somehow didnt drop the ball in the process.i cant stand alabama almost as much as uf and um,infact its in that order, florida, miami, alabama, screw all three of them and go noles!
Minnesota.
Let them come down here, the whole team can head down to Panama City the next day and enjoy the beach and the sting of the salt water in their fresh wounds.
How 'bout Illinois?
If we’re looking for some kind of sad sack Big Ten team… Plus we might get a chance to beat Zook again (though the probability of him still being a HC in 2013 seems kinda slim).
Those are apparently required by some ruling from when the ACC raided the BE.

Wouldn't the pressure to do this be coming from the conferences?
Of course the coaches would be against it, but the conferences want the exposure and TV money. I don’t think Bowden wanted to play Miami on Labor day weekend, but somehow he was persuaded to do it. Anybody know what the financial arrangements are for these kickoff games?
Florida State 45 Miami 17
future opponents
Among the schools we should consider scheduling are
Washington
UCLA
Arizona State
Texas
Arkansas
Notre Dame
Rutgers
Tennessee
Boise State
BYU
Navy
All great road trips that would attrack a large traveling contingent, good matchups with teams that would help fill Doak when they play us (this is getting to be a big issue), and provide the credible matchups that made us the envy of other schools throughou the Bowden era.
No thanks.

Don't need those matchups anymore.
We were an independent, had to make our bones on the field week in, week out. Now, we win our conference and don’t lose out of conference, we go to the BCS championship. We play Florida every year. Why put a Texas or Arkansas on there too? Schedule home-and-homes with teams like Minnesota, Indiana, Colorado, San Jose State. Schedule in a Wyoming or San Diego State for one-off home games.
I disagree with a lot on this subject
I like when FSU will play tough teams. It is more staifying to me to brag to my non FSU fans that the Noles play a kick ass schedule.
WHen the Noles play an obvious patsy then we have to worry about what is wrong when they don’t win convincingly.
To play weak teams does nothing to prepare you for a tough team (witness Samford then Oklahoma). Then see how the Oklahoma debacle preped the Noles for BYU, WF etc.
To those who worry that playing tough teams hurts our national championship hopes ….
I think you are unrealistic. The chance of the Noles winning the NC anytime soon are remote.
Thus I rather we play tough teams and brag about it, even if we are 9-3 or 10-2 then play easy teams and be 11-1. So waht is the difference the 11-1 at # 5 ranking and a 10-2 puts us at # 9. This ranking stuff is all BS.
Lastly to travel to cooler away spots is a blast. (even Atlanta for a Ala game is much cooler than a Div 1 AA team in Tally).
WHy are you guys worried about playing WVU?
Why?

I can repost this as many times as necessary. A national championship is only as far away as an undefeated season, and the odds of that get much, MUCH lower when the voluntary level of competition is raised above a certain mark. We have to play Oklahoma next year, again. This time in Tallahassee, granted, but we’ll still be very lucky to get a win. What if that were Ohio instead? No offense, but I’m not interested in you bragging to your friends, I’m interested in seeing the Seminoles back at the top of college football. If WVU wants to play us, tell ‘em to make the big game too and we’ll play them there.
