I think 1st is more ridiculous than 3rd.
MiNDSET? SWAG-ER-ISM!!!

"Correct, Sir Trick."
I could see
him falling to the 2nd round in a worst-case (and extremely unlikely) scenario. 3rd round is just stupid.
Where's Dan Kendra when you need him?
No way he goes 3rd round
OG may not be glamorous but the work ethic and reliability he possesses are worth their weight in gold.
I’m sure his combine will bump his draft stock up too.
Its hard to argue against Wisconsin and USC not having 1st round talent
But BYU and Colorado were garbage this year; and there pass/run blocking was not as efficent as SI makes it seem. Derrok Sherrod IS the best lineman in America, but Hudson is a first rounder.
Not sure if he'll go first round, but
I’d bet he is the first OG drafted.
Gripper
Tommyhawk Nation: Bobby Bowden vs UNC 15-1-1...Jimbo 0-1
He's not even expected to win the top interior lineman award this year I thought?

The NFL doesn't care about the college awards though.
Tell em FSU is coming and hell is coming with us!
He's small for an NFL guard, but
He more than makes up for it with his strength and technique. If there’s a team out there with a #1 need of OG, not sure how you could choose anyone else ahead of him.
Only thing that could drop his stock is if he’s asked to move to center. Has he ever played the position before?
I bet he is 290+ by the time the NFL Combine rolls around.

He needs to play center in the NFL imo.

I see no reason why he can't do that. Olin Kreutz with better athleticism.
Does anyone doubt the mental aspect of his game after 4 years starting? he will get a chance to play C at the all star games I think…

Funny that you mention Kreutz
I’m a huge Bears fan and I hope we draft Rodney. He’s a definite upgrade at guard and could move to center when Kreutz is gets too old.

Seeing him projected as a possible center, too
He could fall to the third, there’s only a few teams that run zone block schemes and most other teams are going to want more size in a first or second round pick.

My sentiments exactly
Did you ever even play the game? I guarantee I can coach my Little League team to beat yours 10 times out of 10.

Most years
all the first round OL picks are tackles. As tuckwell pointed out, only a few teams run zone block schemes. Add in that Hudson is short for an NFL lineman. Would someone please name the last college offensive guard who listed at 6-2 or under who ended up going in the first round? first two rounds even?
Last year a 6-5 330 lb guard went in the first round, the first guard to go in the first round since 2007. I went through the last 25 drafts and found no guard taken in the first round under 6-3.
Third round should not shock anyone here. Still, mid to late second round would seem more probable.

Davin Joseph
has been listed as 6-2 in some locations, but 6-3 in most places.
Here’s a guess, John Hannah (1973)?
The last guard to go into the HOF was McDaniel, I think, listed as 6-3.
That’s a really interesting point.

It was Petey Perot
1979 Eagles, 2nd Round.
Didn’t mean to make this two posts— accident.

I'd love to see the Skins pick him up in the third!
I doubt he’ll last that long
by CrimiNOLElawyer on Nov 30, 2010 10:19 PM EST reply actions
Skins don't have a third at this point
They might trade back in the first and pick up some additional picks, or trade players before the draft, but right now they don’t have a pick in that round, unfortunately :(
Most have Pouncey as the first interior lineman picked
with Hudson next in line

How could a guy that can't even consistently snap the ball
be drafted ahead of Rodney Hudson?
Yeah, and don't get his name wrong,
or he’ll be crying about it for at least 5 years.
He'll be drafted as a guard
He’s a fine pick, I just don’t think he’s as good as Hudson.

Late Second
Is my guess. He’s a small, zone scheme’d Guard. Pouncey will be taken over him, as well as like 4 Tackles.
Not doubting his talent, but he is small
I looked up the weights of all of the guards on active NFC rosters who have a last name starting from A to McDonald (there are 34 of these, I think this sample represents the guards in the NFL pretty well). The average weight is 318.09, the standard deviation is 15.2. The range is from 358 to 290. At 282 he is 2.37 standard deviations below the mean. If he bulks up to 304 it would make him the third smallest out of that group of 34.
He is athletic, but, now, so are most of the big guards in the NFL. A lot of the NFL drafts on measurables, unfortunately for him, his are not great.
Part of what makes a zone blocking scheme attractive is you don't need to burn draft picks early on linemen
I think Rodney will have a great career but anything earlier then 3rd is probably a bit of reach due to his size or lack of game reps at Center. If he played center at FSU he would be a surefire 2nd round pick if not late first.
FSU football is the new case study for the outliers phenomon
Great Points Brought Up
about size & blocking scheme
Thanks for all the input
