What Tar Heel Team Will FSU Face?

With all of North Carolina's Agent and Academic issues, how is one to know which players will actually play for the Tar Heels in any given week?  We turn to to TarHeelFanBlog for help.

I'll list UNC's probable starting lineup and then note who (if anyone) is missing.  Offensive Line
Left Tackle 68 - James Hurst (6-7, 300, Fr.), 71 - Carl Gaskins (6-5, 300, Jr.)
Left Guard 64 - Jonathan Cooper (6-3, 300, So.), 62 - David Collins (6-8, 315, Fr.*)
Center 65 - Cam Holland (6-2, 310, Jr.), 70 - Alan Pelc (6-6, 305, Sr.)
Right Guard 70 - Alan Pelc (6-6, 305, Sr.) OR 76 - Travis Bond (6-7, 335, So.)
Right Tackle, 66 - Mike Ingersoll (6-5, 305, Sr.), 73 - Brennan Williams (6-7, 300, So.)
Prognosis: very good. UNC had untimely injury problems early on but now those look to be settled and this is a decent, big, talented group. Much improved from last season.

TE/ H-Back
Tight End 80 - Ed Barham (6-3, 270, Sr.), 89 - Nelson Hurst (6-4, 255, So.)
H-Back, 49 - Ryan Taylor (6-3, 245, Sr.), 33 - Christian Wilson (6-3, 245, Jr.)
Missing: Senior TE Zac Pianalto (6'4" 250). Pianalto had 30 catches in 22 quarters for 311 yards. That is a ton of production. Pianalto is done for the year with a leg injury and his absence has hurt UNC in its last two games since the Tar Heels like to throw lots of check downs to the tight end.
Prognosis: This isn't a bad group as Barham and Taylor have experience, but Pianalto was one of the best tight ends in the country and a surefire draft pick, which UNC cannot replace.

Quarterback 13 - T.J. Yates (6-3, 220, Sr.), 2 - Bryn Renner (6-3, 210, Fr.*)
Prognosis: Yates is playing much better now that his OLine and Receivers aren't a mess (as they were in 2009)

Fullback 38 - Curtis Byrd (6-0, 210, So.), 6- Anthony Elzy (5-10, 205, Sr.)
Missing: FB Devon Ramsay(JR): Withheld prior to Clemson game for newly discovered academic issues; status unknown. Starter.
Prognosis: none of these guys have stood out and obviously having Ramsey back would help.

Tailback 34 - Johnny White (5-11, 205, Sr.), 20 - Shaun Draughn (6-0, 210, Sr.)
Missing: RB Ryan Houston(SR): Cleared following honor court date prior to UVa game. Redshirt providing no one is injured. Houston was not the starter. RB Gio Bernard- torn ACL.
Prognosis: This group is a good but not special group.

Wide Receiver
83 - Dwight Jones (6-4, 220, Jr.), 3 - Joshua Adams (6-4, 200, Fr.*)
88 - Erik Highsmith (6-3, 185, So.), 87 - Jheranie Boyd (6-2, 190, So.)
Missing: *WR Greg Little(SR): Permanently ineligible for receiving $5K in improper benefits, ethical conduct violation.
Prognosis: Little was a definite starter and is an NFL guy. But this is a super talented unit, and it has played much better this year.

As you can see, the offense is missing two impact players in Little and Pianalto, but nothing else.  Inside, see what is left of the Carolina defense.

Florida State is catching Carolina at the 'Heels' most eligible and healthy spot of the year.  Everyone who was serving a 6 game suspension is now back.  At one point UNC was missing 9 of its projected 11 starters, but it is now missing only three (perhaps four).

Left Defensive End 93 - Tim Jackson (6-5, 240, Fr.)95 - Kareem Martin (6-6, 245, Fr.)
Missing: *DE Robert Quinn(JR): Permanently ineligible for receiving $5K in improper benefits, ethical conduct violation.
Prognosis: Quinn was the potential #1-overall pick in the NFL draft and not having him has hurt UNC all season.

Left Defensive Tackle 90 - Quinton Coples (6-6, 275, Jr.)78 - Jordan Nix (6-4, 285, Jr.)
Missing: Marvin Austin
Prognosis: Austin was a surefire first-round draft choice and not having him has hurt the 'Heels all year. Coples is talented but he is not Austin.

Right Defensive Tackle 91 - Tydreke Powell (6-3, 305, Jr.)97 - Jared McAdoo (6-3, 285, Fr.*)
Prognosis: Powell is a quality player and this spot is fine.

Right Defensive End 98 - Donte Paige-Moss (6-4, 260, So.)55 - Linwan Euwell (6-2, 235, Jr.)
Missing: DE Michael McAdoo(JR): Academic status pending.
Prognosis: Paige-Moss can play, but McAdoo was a potential starter for the Heels. This side is not as bad off as the other side.

Will Linebacker 52 - Quan Sturdivant (6-2, 230, Sr.) OR 47 - Zach Brown (6-2, 225, Jr.)
Prognosis: Studrivant is a stud and Brown is a good backup. Missed time earlier in the year but is now back.

Mike Linebacker 48 - Kevin Reddick (6-3, 235, So.)57 - Dion Guy (6-4, 235, So.)
Prognosis: Reddick is a quality Mike backer.

Sam Linebacker 54 - Bruce Carter (6-3, 230, Sr.)35 - Herman Davidson (6-2, 235, Jr.)
Prognosis: Carter is a stud. Missed time earlier in year with NCAA stuff.

Cornerback 16 - Kendric Burney (5-9, 190, Sr.)7 - Mywan Jackson (5-11, 185, So.)
Prognosis: Burney and Jackson both missed time but they are now back and Burney is quite good.

Strong Safety 21 - Da'Norris Searcy (6-0, 215, Sr.)1 - Gene Robinson (5-11, 190, So.)
Prognosis: Searcy missed the first 6 games with suspension but is now back and is a quality player.

Free Safety 27 - Deunta Williams (6-2, 215, Sr.)25 - Matt Merletti (5-11, 200, Jr.)
Prognosis: Williams missed the first 6 games with suspension but is now back and is the BEST Safety in the ACC.

Cornerback 37 - LeCount Fantroy (5-11, 190, Jr.) OR 10 - Tre Boston (6-1, 185, Fr.)
Missing: Charles Brown (suspended, will redshirt)
Prognosis: Missing Brown hurts here as he was a good player.

Bottom Line

Many people believe that the Tar Heels were decimated by the NCAA this year, and at one point they were, but this team is now much better comprised than it was at any other point in the season and is very talented.  UNC held a lot of guys out last week for precautionary reasons and it seems most 'Nole fans are underestimating the level of talent that the  'Heels have recruited
