According to my source, who has dropped such pearls of wisdom as "Me So Horny" and the classic "Doo Doo Brown", UM's new coach is "Gold". My take on it is as follows:
Golden has to be a good evaluator of talent because Temple isn't going to get the best kids in the area. So he has to look for specific things in each kid that will let him excel under his coaching and in his scheme. He also is good at getting whatever is in a kid out of them and onto the field. I think both of these will be improvements over Randy Shannon.
But I think Miami clearly missed on making the splash hire they wanted to make. There is a lot of room between Gruden and Golden. Their "fanbase" won't be happy with a guy whose team they have probably never seen before. I don't think his name is enough to instantly makes their decommitments come back either so he will have to work his tail off to somehow salvage this class. I also question how he will recruit. He is diving into the deepest end of the pool by going from recruiting at UVA, BC and Penn State as an Asst Coach to Miami where he will have to compete with the other members of the Big 3, all the SEC and Clemson.
I think Golden is a solid hire and he should really be using this as an audition for the Penn State job. Miami's roster is not built for long term success and their fanbase actually expects any coach worth keeping to win an NC in 4 years. But in 2 years their team will probably be the 4th or 5th most talented team in the ACC because of their 2010 and 2011 classes.

**Also being reported that Golden may be offered the Pitt job. If he takes Pitt over Miami that really says something about Miami.
***Being reported by ESPN Golden to the U. Some U fans are saying Donna S just gave the program a golden shower. They don't mean it as a good thing.
