The short version: Hawaii's in trouble.
The long version: Despite a senior laden lineup the 09-10 Hawaii basketball team managed to have the worst offense AND defense in the WAC. In comes new head coach Gib Arnold (assistant from USC) along with a ton of new players. Arnold is a very good hire for Hawaii, and remember his name as he'll be coaching a Big-6 program in 4 or 5 years. He has ties to southern Cal as well as the International scene, which are the two recruiting areas for Hawaii. He's one of the brightest defensive minds on the west coast.
PG Hiram Thompson is the best player for Hawaii and is also their only returning player who saw significant minutes last season. Unfortunately for Hawaii he'll be in street clothes due to a bad back when they face FSU. In fact, the Warriors only have 1 real point guard for this game (a freshman - see short version of the preview), are missing senior post man Bill Amis who broke his foot recently, and will only suit up 8 guys.
Hawaii's only chance to hang with the Noles is through 3pt shooting as they shoot 40% as a team. The Seminoles are #2 in the country in defending the 3pt shot.
This is a game the Noles should win by 20. Look for lots of tinkering in the front court, as Leonard Hamilton is still waiting for Xavier Gibson to step up now that Bernard James is coming on strong and Jon Kreft is eligible.
