Dante Fowler Jr., an elite defensive end prospect from St. Pete's Lakewood HS for the 2012 class, has committed to Florida State. Here are his 2009 highlights (2010 are considerably better).
— Fowler is 6'3" 235 as a junior and projects to play at 6'4" 260+ lbs. He is the early favorite to be the best defensive end in the state and is a national recruit with early offers from FSU, UF, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, etc. For comparison purposes, he is a stronger and more explosive version of current FSU defensive end Brandon Jenkins. His cousin is Chris Davis, who played receiver for the 'Noles in the early 2000s.
Florida State continues to do an excellent job identifying targets quickly and landing them early. Fowler is the fourth commitment of the 2012 class. The others are Dalvon Stuckey (6'3" 305lb DT), Delmarick "Mario" Pender (elite RB), and P.J. Williams (excellent DB).
Florida State already has good talent. With the 2011 and 2012 classes, however, it is about to have great talent.
It also marks an important get in the Tampa area. For the final five years of Bowden's reign, FSU ceded Tampa to the Gators and Georgia. No more. Florida State has now taken the top player from the bay area in back-to-back years.
