I was replying to another fan post just now when I started thinking about something that occurred to me during the game the other night. Terrence Parks is probably our worst starter, almost to the point that it would be hard to argue for anyone else - especially because we don't have anyone behind him who we could say, well lets just let _____ play instead. Moody may not be very good in coverage, but good lord does that man lay some wood. Parks just seems like he's always a step late to the play - now maybe its because he's still just a raw athlete and he needs another year with Stoops, personally I think he's just an average player who lacks good football instincts.
You know who does have good football instincts? Mike Harris does. Mike's made more plays for this defense than anyone else all year, and he did that from his nickel spot for most of the season, he is simply a playmaker and every snap that he is on the sidelines for is a snap that we dont have our best personnel on the field.
Xavier is our #1 CB, nuff said. GR5 may frustrate the hell out of many of us, but he has made strides this year and is actually showing a willingness to tackle which is exciting. Lamarcus Joyner is simply too talented to keep off the field much longer. So how do you get these 3 guys on the field and Mike Harris?
What if Harris were to take over at FS for Parks? I realize he would make a small safety, but have you guys seen the hits he's made this year? He keeps his hips square to the line and explodes through the ballcarrier, and has laid some absolutely vicious hits - in fact I'd say if you queued up Parks and Harris' best hits on the year, Harris' reel would look much better. Most importantly Harris is a ballhawk and a natural in zone coverage - something Parks does not appear to be.
Not sure if the coaches feel the same way as they seem to want gigantic safeties as opposed to the corner/safety hybrid types. What do you guys think?
